Project brief Upgrade of the M1 Junction 36 slip road and elongation of the A61 Birdwell Junction to

alleviate congestion. The project aims to improve access and development potential of the

Rockingham Employment site and improve pedestrian and cycling safety by providing

shared-use routes and designated crossing facilities. As stated by Cllr Roy Millar, Cabinet

Spokesperson for Place, “It remains a priority to minimise any disruption and any

restrictions on traffic movement”. Therefore, the project has required innovative solutions

to complete the works in as smooth a manner as possible.
