SKY ROOM KEY FACTS The Skyroom is a new generation of orangery roof design, which brings the much sought after contemporary designer style of an orangery at a price that’s affordable for most homeowners. The unique dummy ringbeam system creates the internal appearance of a real orangery lantern. The 300mm deep aluminium cornice creates the external appearance of a real orangery lantern sitting on a solid flat roof. Due to its industry-leading real orangery appearance, retailers are able to achieve a greater sales value per project compared to the other mock orangery systems available. This provides them with greater profit per installation. The Skyroom delivers low sightlines both internally and externally with unobtrusive, sharp lines thanks to its super-slim 40mm rafter and ridge profile. Its slim-line profile creates a contemporary appearance and maximises the amount of glazing above so you see more sky and less roof, giving clean, superior aerial views. The strength-to-weight ratio of the Atlas aluminium profile allows it to comfortably achieve extensive roof spans without unsightly tie-bars. The hidden laser and rafter tie-bar supports provide complete design flexibility. Extra strong rafters allow the tie-bars to be set higher in the roof to maximise headroom and create a sense of space under the eaves. Although the family had a modest budget for the project, they agreed that it was worth increasing their spend. This would help them to achieve the luxurious style of an orangery and better thermal performance than a conservatory would provide. They eventually opted for a spacious 3 x 5 metre Atlas Skyroom across the rear of the property to provide an additional family room. Bradley Scott managed the 12-week project, removing the original wall to the back of the house to create a large open-plan space from the kitchen into the new extension. The Skyroom roof was installed in just four days. The family chose a distinctive cream colour for the Skyroom which contrasts with the rosewood windows in their home. The windows and bi-folding doors were matched to the same RAL colour as the Skyroom for a consistent look. The family was keen to open up the back of the property to add extra floor space for entertaining and relaxing together. It was important to improve the flow of the house and create a sociable open-plan living and dining space which would provide direct access into the garden. Having discussed their needs with the designers at Sherborne Windows, they opted for a Skyroom extension in grey aluminium to create that all-important contemporary feel. The 3 x 5 metre Skyroom features smart bi-folding doors which open onto a patio area. The expanse of glass in the Skyroom has enhanced the flow of light into the rear of the property and helped to merge the new extension with the garden. The Skyroom roof was simple for the installation team to fit and was installed in just two days. The client is very pleased with their new extension, which is decorated in pale, neutral shades and is finished with large-format tiles to add to the sense of space. This is a great example of how appealing the Skyroom is to a customer who had initially decided on a conservatory. The Skyroom has provided much-needed space and, unlike a conservatory, it can be used all year round. THE NEXT GENERATION OF ORANGERY DESIGN

SKYROOM

It looks just like an orangery, which helps us to capitalise on the growing demand for this style of home improvement product.

Angus McCubbin – Panoramic Ltd, Bristol

VALE ORANGERIES VALE OF GLAMORGAN, WALES

Vale Orangeries dramatically transformed the appearance of a formerschool house with a vast 9 x 3 metre dual-colour Skyroom.

This was our first Skyroom installation so we’re very pleased indeed with the finished result. It was a grand and impressive project, and the client is absolutely delighted with their new living space. Our first experience of fitting a Skyroom was very good and it is certainly a fitter-friendly product that’s fast and simple to install.

DEANE & LEANNE EDMONDSManaging Directors

The owners of the property had carefully renovated the school house and wanted to replace their tired PVC-u conservatory with a traditional orangery that would span the entire width of the building. Keen to improve the flow of rooms within their home and to maximise the sense of space and light, the owners approached Vale Orangeries to discuss design ideas for the project.

The customer was immediately drawn to the contemporary features of the Skyroom, its realistic orangery appearance and its superior thermal performance, which was essential for such a large, open-plan structure.

With its slimmer sightlines and unique dummy ringbeam design, the Skyroom has improved the quality of light within the property and complemented the period features of the building.

WHEN IS AN ORANGERYNOT AN ORANGERY?

...when it’s an Atlas Skyroom!Much like a traditionally built orangery, the Skyroom’s industry-leading design has the appearance of a real lantern set within a solid roof.

But here’s the secret, it’s not an orangery at all.

The internal illusion is created using a unique dummy ringbeam, allowing the roof

to appear as though the ultra slim lantern is sitting on a luxurious internal pelmet.

Externally, the 300mm architecturally engineered aluminium cornice is a statement

of luxury and elegance, giving the full orangery appearance.

In a competitive market, the Skyroom has enabled installers to diversify from the

highly saturated PVC-u market. It’s also a perfect replacement roof, capable of

transforming an existing conservatory into a stylish mock orangery.

MENDIP CONSERVATORIES SOMERSET

This innovative installation by Mendip Conservatories captures just how versatile the Atlas Skyroom can be.

The owners of this period farmhouse in Wells, Somerset, wanted to add a luxurious orangery-style extension to the back of the property to provide a generous space for relaxing. They had a very clear vision for their extension – it had to have the look of an orangery, it had to incorporate a lean-to roof and it had to be aluminium.

Having seen a number of Skyroom installations on the Mendip Conservatories website, the owners approached the Weston-Super-Mare-based installer to see if the Skyroom could be adapted to suit their needs.

After consulting with the Atlas team on the technicalities of incorporating a lean-to roof into the Skyroom – the first of its kind in the UK – Mendip began their bespoke installation.

With its slim sightlines and angular roof, the 11.9 x 2.75 metre Skyroom has delivered the contemporary look that the homeowner desired. It features huge six-metre wide bi-folding doors and 12 fixed glazing panels to flood the South-facing extension with light. The owners chose grey aluminium (RAL 7016) to contrast with the cream render of their farmhouse.

Homeowner Jo Taylor said: “Mendip Conservatories designed just what we wanted and sourced all the quality elements of our modern, bespoke Skyroom. The result is better than expected.”

Despite its size, the installation was straightforward and was completed by a solo fitter in just one week.

This is a lovely installation and one which really shows what can be achieved with the Skyroom. Our designers worked closely with Atlas throughout the project to ensure that it could be adapted to this very individual application. We’re really proud of the end result and the client now has an amazing room which blends so well with their recently landscaped garden. KIM EYRES
