Since the sheath of a cartridge heater is just to contact a heat-ed thing directly, it needs to be easy to get used and bestrong as well as its heat conductivity. And easy processabilityis also important. SUS304 is used for the sheath material asthe standard specification of "Ultra V". For a special userequirement, INCOROY, TITANIUM and etc. are also applica-ble.

●Sheath

An exothermic line is winded around a core and, which isinstalled in the center of a cartridge heater. As the core mate-rial, a magnesia ceramics calcinated of magnesia with highprecision is used.

●Core

The exothermic line is separated from the sheath with theinsulator. The magnesium oxide (MgO, magnesia) is used asinsulator of Ultra V，which is excellent in an electrical insula-tion character at the time of high temperature, and alsosuperior in thermal conductivity. High insulating ability isproven over a long period of time.

●Insulation sealing material

An exothermic line can be called life of a cartridge heater. The highquality of nickel alloy is used for this exothermic line of Ultra V,which is produced in high density sealing with insulation materialand in winding a high nickel alloy wire of high purity with high pro-cessing accuracy, which is few variation in resistance or diameter,

The high precisionheaters born through

many years of research, development and the actual achieve-ment. The total heat generated by the exothermic line is con-veyed to a thing to be heated without a few loss.

It is a longer-life compared with anconventional type, since a high nick-

el alloy for an exothermic line and the own developed originalheat-resistant insulation magnesia are used.

A stainless steel pipe (SUS304) isused for a sheath part which is

durable designed structure for mechanical vibration and ashock, and is qualified through the duarbility test.

Excellent electric insulation and the stable insulating ability inhigh temperature.

Also at the time of multi-number use, it can wire

smoothly and compactly.

In addition to millsize and inch size

series, "for water use" is lined up. It complies with vari-ous customers requirements.

Though other companies' products look similarly as for the appearance of the

shape of cylinder of cartridge heaters, there are remarkable differences in

materials, structures, sizes and accuracies. The data set forth herein shows

their differences of the products between several manufacturers in Japan and

U.S.A．

The following are the appearance (upper side : 190mmlength, bottom side : 50mm length) and the diameter of aheater sheath (heater length of 50mm) of a cartridge heaterfrom several manufacturers. Heaters have size accuracy vari-eties in a path of diameter by the place. And the other hand,some of them have so precise size accuracy

A cartridge heater of 12 dia×50 length is inserted inthe hole of 12.5 dia drilled out in metallic mold ofcylinder form of 62.5 dia×50 height and a test exam-ination is made in a way to turn OFF at 180 degrees Cand to turn ON at 150 degrees C．

It would be almost 200℃ in 5～6.5 minutes afterswitching on. It is due to over-shooting that is higherthan setting temperature. A graph shown is for anexample purpose. Operational efficiency rises higherand higher, for example, in resin fabrication, asresponse ability becomes better and better (responsetime being shorter).

It is said that a heater which is excellent in heattransferring ability from an internal exothermic lineto outside and stores inside smaller heating caloriesrises its temperature more quickly and is also excel-lent in response ability with the same watt condition.

It is measured till disconnection occurs, under following conditions；in mold temperature 300 deg C，a cartridgeheater of 12x50 is inserted in the hole of φ12.5 made in metallic mold of cylinder form of φ62.5x50 and the surfacewatt density of 30W/cm2 is applied

It is carried out in the way of regular testing of our company.

Contact method is adopted in connect-ing lead and exothermic line. It is elec-trically preferable that exothermic lineis contacting firmly on lead, Like figureA. If connection is loose, partial over-heating will be occurred by contactresistance and it will become easy todisconnect.

Lead and electric wire are stuck on each other by pressure. If sticking on by pressure is loose, a temperaturerise will be occured by contact resistance and if it is too strong, an electric wire and a lead will be damaged.

Cartridge heater with flangeIt is a cartridge heater equipped with aboard flange at a terminal part. A heateris easily fixable by using a screw.

・For standard stocks of diameters φ6.25-φ20 of a sheath, it can be pre-

pared in 3days to attach a flange additionally upon your request.

・Custom-made heaters are also available using same flanges.

・Please specify a part number and a kind of flange of standard goods as "with a

HLA2103 A type flange" in your order for standard products with a flange.

・A capable insertion length of heater shall be decreased with a flange thick-

ness of (1.5)

It is important to improve heat transfer effectiveness to the metal heated from a heater in a cartridge heater.

蘆It is recommendable that a difference between a diameter of the hole t and of a heater shall be as less as possible.(0.1mm or less : if it is φ10 heater φ10.1 hole)

蘆It is recommendable that flat and smooth finishing on surface of a hole and a reamer processing.Please remove oil used for hole processing. If oil remains still, oil will be heated and become carbide then heat conduc-tion will be damaged.

蘆It does not cause of a problem at all to use it on below rating voltage. Please calculate the capacity as follows.

(Example) In case of use at 100V of the heater of regular capacity of 120V-500W, it becomes to 347W.

●How to fix with Ultra W In order to use "Ultra W" correctly・Be careful not to expose a heater sheath into the air.When it is used in the air, a heater sheath maybecome high temperature and may cause a fire anddisconnection.

・If it is used for a long period of time, the substancesof scale, carbide - and others will become adhesivedeposition on the surface of a heater sheath. Sinceit prevents from heat radiation and becomes thecause of disconnection or corrosion, please check itconstantly and remove those adhesives.

・Please do not use it except for heating of water.

Classification Form The feature and use

Water prooftype

A metal color is welded at a terminal part and its structure protects a ter-minal part from outside environment. Therefore it is suitable to use fordie mold on which oil, water and resin easily adhere and heat sealermostly dusty under humid environment.

By using hermetic parts for a terminal part, it can be used also in400-degree C vacuum atmosphere. please use it for heating themetallic mold inside a vacuum.

It has the structure of protecting the terminal edge of a heater fromwater drop or high humidity atmosphere. Please use a terminal partbelow 200 degrees C.

The structure is of protecting the terminal part of a heater from waterdrop or dew condensation. Reliable waterproof ability is securable.According to the rubber quality of the material to be used, there are twokinds, 80 degrees C and 200 degrees C. Please use it for prevention offreezing outdoor use, the local heating object for freezer, for water heat-ing, and steam heating.

Metal captype

The metal cap for protecting a terminal part certainly is attached. It isthe best for the metallic mold ，being often moved， of which partbeing often covered with resin and of which appearance to be consid-ered. The structure is enough durable for metallic mold to conflict multiexchanges of heater

Fishcake tubetype

This is the type which equipped with the hollow pipe in the heater. It isused for heating of fluid, insertion of a sensor and cooling. There isanother type of two hollow pipes.

Balanced type

It is set up freely for an exothermic distribution of a cartridge heater andis capable for any temperature distribution suitable for the operatingcondition. Order made designing, simulation and measurement can becarried out with high technique engineering.

Fin layer type

It is possible to heat exchanges in small space because the heatexchange effectiveness of gas heating is sharply improvable. Fin mate-rial is SUS304. It can be used as a heat source of a small dryness noz-zle, nitrogen gas heating, and hot wind generating equipment as well.
