Despite that, the students raise the money to buy the supplies for the KAH packing event. The first time we did a packing event, the principle told Rick to come down to the office to get the money for the event. Rick couldn't understand why she couldn't just bring him the check. Rick went down to the office to pick up the (check), and to his surprise most of the money was made up of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. He had to get a rolling cart and make 3 trips to the car because all the change was so heavy. You see, the kids bring all this change from home. The children who participate are soooo excited for this event. A lot of them can't speak much English, but you don't need to speak the same language to get the message across about how to pack the food and that you are helping other people. Even some of the parent volunteers don't speak English, but they are there to help. There are also physically challenged and mentally challenged children participating. They are all so excited. It is wonderful to watch all the other children helping out these other kids so they have a positive experience. The teachers are wonderful with the kids. It is also very well organized and well planned. It is our favorite packing event, I think this will be our 4th year at Gilbert. It is one of my very favorite days of the year.
