1. Cut and weigh the goat's milk soap, then place in microwave safe measuring cup or bowl.

2. Add the cinnamon and microwave until soap base is melted (roughly 30 seconds). Stir in the quick oats.

3. While still liquid, but slightly cooled, add the apple fragrance (too hot will dissipate it, the oats help cool it, so just wait 30-60 seconds).

4. Stir gently while pouring into mold to ensure uniform oat distribution, yet not create bubbles.

5. Cool until firm, then pop bars out of the mold.

Keep a close eye on the mailbox in the coming month. Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative is preparing to distribute Capital Credit checks and you might be eligible for one.

Are you unfamiliar with the phrase "Capital Credits"? They are one of the biggest and most misunderstood advantages to being a Member of Carroll EMC. As a Member, you are also an owner, which means a portion of the Co-op’s profit is returned to you if there are excess revenues at the end of the year. This is what sets us apart from investor-owned utilities and is just one of the many benefits you enjoy because you receive your electric service from a not-for-profit cooperative.

Carroll EMC’s Board of Directors announces the retirement of funds from a specific set of years. The amount a Member

receives is calculated based on her or her use of electricity during those years. Last year, Carroll EMC returned 100 percent of the remaining margins for 1999, 50 percent of 2006’s margins and 50 percent of 2018’s margins. Eligible Members will receive their checks after the Board of Directors have finalized financial conditions.

The Cooperative is also looking for Members with unclaimed Capital Credits from previous years. We would like to find a current address and refund these Capital Credits, if possible. There are lists posted on our website and at our Carrollton, Franklin and Buchanan Carroll EMC offices. Please call Carroll EMC during regular business hours at (770) 832-3552 if your name is on the list or if you have a current address for anyone on the list.

Partnership Brings Broadband to West Georgia Broadband deployment efforts by SyncGlobal Telecom and Carroll EMC are coming together with the announcement of USDA/RUS grant money awarded for the region through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Broadband ReConnect Program. The official partnership to deploy fiber optic networks and broadband speed internet (up to 1 Gbps) in the Cooperative’s rural service territory was announced in late June.

The project has identified an initial footprint spanning across much of Heard County and southern Carroll County and follows scattered infrastructure into northern Troup County and across the Georgia line into eastern Alabama. It will serve 125 square miles and more than 7,300 residents, more than 200 farms and businesses, one school and four fire stations. Long term, the intent is to expand the fiber network and broadband speed internet access across all Carroll EMC territories and beyond.

SyncGlobal Telecom and Carroll EMC are committed to a shared goal: to eliminate the digital divide that plagues rural residents and businesses in our communities. We will work hard to deliver broadband as quickly as possible to as many underserved areas as possible and will communicate timeline and service area updates when they become available.

Potential subscribers are encouraged to contact SyncGlobal Telecom for more information and to register their address.
