What is a keratin treatment?
A keratin treatment uses keratin protein to temporarily restore and rejuvenate the hair, creating a smoother, stronger and healthier
appearance.
What is Keratin?
Noun
A fibrous protein forming the main structural constituent of hair, feathers, hoofs, claws, horns, etc.
ker·a·tin
/ˈkerətin/
Keratin is a biological protein that composes the majority of our hair, skin and nails. Dead keratin cells make up the top layer of hair; protecting new cells as they grow beneath the surface. Maintaining the health of the dead cells is crucial, but this becomes difficult due to daily stressors that agitate the hair follicle.
Keratin is the building block of hair
Keratin
How does the LASIO Keratin Treatment work?
The LASIO Keratin Treatments work by coating &
infusing
the hair strands in keratin; replacing the broken
protein bonds and strengthening the hair by adding
an additional layer of keratin. Our treatments
soften and smooth the hair strands, removing
100% of frizz and transforming damaged hair into
manageable, shiny locks.
Hydrolyzed Human Hair Keratin
An exact match for the keratin your hair has (or has lost due to chemical processing). This is the
highest quality and most potent keratin protein that can be used in hair products.
Hydrolyzed Human Hair Keratin Protein – Cretein HKP is produced by hydrolyzing human hair down to a molecular weight of approximately 150-2000.
It is a mixture of Amino Acids that are highly moisture-binding and will take the dull appearance away. Because this process is essentially putting hair back into hair, you will see benefits such as
body, bounce and shine.
Safety 1st
In 2007, LASIO took its services and commitment to safety a step further. LASIO created a Safety 1st program to provide in-depth knowledge and safety awareness to all LASIO clients. The Safety 1st program not only educates our clients on proper product use, but also implements precautionary measures under federal guidelines. Our Safety 1st program gives stylists the confidence they need when dealing with federal officials, skeptical clients, and media speculations. Our Safety 1st Program consists of: LASIO Education Class-Lasio is committed to educating stylists on proper product usage Ventilation Consultation- Proper ventilation is highly recommended when performing any type of chemical service. Lasio provides consultations on the best ventilation and air purifier systems for salons. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Lab Reports-All of our clients are supplied MSDS forms and lab reports for Lasio products. Our products are tested every 3 months to ensure safety and efficiency. The LASIO Seal-Upon meeting all of the necessary safety requirements, salons are rewarded the Lasio Seal and Certification. The LASIO Seal is a badge alerting consumers that they are attending a certified Lasio Salon.
Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
The owner or operator of any facility which is required to prepare or have available a material safety data sheet for a hazardous chemical under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 [29 U.S.C. 651 et seq.] and regulations promulgated under that Act shall submit a material safety data sheet for each such chemical, or a list of such chemicals as described in paragraph (2), to each of the following: (A) The appropriate local emergency planning committee. (B) The State emergency response commission. (C) The fire department with jurisdiction over the facility. It is intended to provide workers and emergency personnel with procedures for handling or working with that substance in a safe manner, and includes information such as physical data (melting point, flash point, boiling point, etc.), toxicity, health effects, first aid, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment, and spill-handling procedures. MSDS formats can vary from source to source within a country depending on national requirements.MSDSs are a widely done system for cataloging information on chemicals, chemical compounds, and chemical mixtures. MSDS information may include instructions for the safe use and potential hazards associated with a particular material or product. These data sheets can be found anywhere where chemicals are being used.
An MSDS for a substance is not primarily intended for use by the general consumer, focusing instead on the hazards of working with the material in an occupational setting.

What is Formaldehyde?
A colorless pungent gas, CH2O, in solution made by oxidizing methanol.
form·al·de·hyde /fôrˈmaldəˌhīd/
Noun
In addition to being used in things like glues, preservatives, antiseptics, resins, paints, film processing, and embalming, formaldehyde is also abundant in the atmosphere. It is one of the many byproducts of combustion, and it is also formed through atmospheric reactions, making it a major component of smog. As a result, it can be a challenge to avoid.Formaldehyde is permitted at low levels when used as a preservative in cosmetics. In liquid form, formaldehyde is referred to as methylene glycol or formalin. The terms 'formaldehyde' and 'methylene glycol' are often used interchangeably in toxicity studies pertaining to formaldehyde.
Formaldehyde Allowances?

0.2% Formaldehyde
OSHA – OSHA allows products to contain up to 0.1% formaldehyde

Important! Important! Important!
It is CRUCIAL that you use a 100% Ceramic Plated Flat iron with LASIO
Keratin Treatments. Our formula is water based and titanium
or tourmaline flat irons can singe the hair – especially over processed and porous hair. Don’t test it. Here is an image of someone who had her hair
destroyed at the hands of a stylist who insisted on using titanium…
The Do’s & Don’ts of Keratin Treatments
Do’sDo wash your hair in 24 hours (One Day or Tropic)
Do cleanse your hair with the LASIO HYPERSILK system.
Do protect your hair from humidity and salt (sweat, saltwater)
Do blow dry or flat iron your hair after any exposure to moisture/ humidity while the hair is processing. *demonstrate for client
Do use the HYPERSILK Revitalizing Mask as a leave-in protectant when your hair will be exposed to salt (sweat/saltwater)
The Do’s & Don’ts of Keratin Treatments
Dont’sDon’t leave treatment in your hair longer than 24 hours
(One Day or Tropic)
Don’t restrain your hair with anything that could leave a mark. This includes pins, barrets, hats, headbands, ect.
Don’t apply any styling products while treatment is processing.
Don’t expose your hair to ANY moisture/ humidity while the hair is processing.
Don’t go swimming in a pool or the ocean without applying a protective mask first.
SODIUM CHLORIDEAKA: SALT
Sodium Chloride is the kryptonite of keratin treatments.
Exposure to this natural substance can take out a keratin
treatment very rapidly. How are we exposed to sodium chloride?
A better question is: How are we NOT? Sodium Chloride is in our
sweat, the ocean, well water softeners & most shampoos. Even
the most expensive & high end shampoos have it – and so do
the organic ones you find in Whole Foods. Unfortunately you
must avoid exposure to sodium if you want to maintain the
results of your keratin treatment. If your client is going on
vacation to the beach, recommend having the service done upon
their return. If you do it prior to their vacation they will come
home in a very bad mood. Even the air at the beach is full of
salt. Its impossible to avoid exposure.
Sodium Chloride cont…
If your client is a gym rat then they too must take special
precautions
to ensure the full duration of the treatment. Even if they tell you
they don’t sweat, THEY SWEAT. If they wear their hair up, then it
is likely that only their roots are exposed to the sweat. In this
case recommend that they use a leave in conditioner or dry
shampoo to protect their hair. For those clients who live or
vacation in an area that uses well water – the softening system
uses sodium chloride tablets. Even taking a shower can ruin their
treatment. Fortunately, there are non sodium softeners so let
your client know all hope is not lost. In addition to all of these
things, we recommend using the HYPERSILK Aftercare System to
maintain the treatment for its full duration. Please STRESS the
importance of aftercare with your client.

CONSULTATION
A proper consultation is an absolute MUST to ensure the client is a acceptable candidate to
receive a keratin treatment. Without performing an in-depth and thorough consultation you are
withholding critical information from your client as well as risking having to perform re-dos and
losing clients due to a lack of communication. Ultimately the responsibility is yours to educate your client on his/her treatment and to find out if
keratin is indeed the best option.
Let’s see if you can answer some consultation questions!!
A proper consultation should include the following questions:
What are you hoping to achieve with a keratin treatment? Are you aware of the home maintenance required to
preserve the treatment? What is your lifestyle like? Do you regularly attend the
gym, go swimming or visit the beach? Do you use well water at home? It is very humid during the summer months. Are you
willing to avoid going outside for the next 24 hours of processing?
Certain shampoos and conditioners contain harsh chemicals that will destroy the treatment. Are you willing to use the proper Hypersilk shampoo and conditioner to maintain the treatment?
This treatment is temporary. Are you aware that to maintain the results you must have another treatment in 4-6 months?
Thank You!
Thank you for taking the time to become more knowledgeable about LASIO Keratin
Treatments. This is the first step in educating yourself so that you are performing the treatments correctly in the safest way possible. It shows your fellow stylists &
clients that you take your craft seriously and I applaud you. If you have any questions
please contact me: [email protected] and I will be happy to help you in any way I can.
Keep it creative and Carrie On! ;)
