Participants will learn tennis skills and be able

to test those skills in games and challenges. This event will have activities for the oldest and youngest members of your family, so

bring everyone along. Please bring a racquet that is age/size appropriate if you have one,

however, we will have some loaners available. Come prepared for fun!

Prior tennis experience not necessary! Limited space available.

KID’S DOG SHOW Saturday, SEPTEMBER 12

Bring your dogs out to the Dog Park for a fun family event. Kid’s Dog Show will include many “Fun” Categories. The Dog Show is open to youth ages 4-14 and dogs 6-months or older.

CLEANING CARRBORO Saturday, SEPTEMBER 19

Let’s rid our environment of litter by cleaning the local Carrboro area and promoting environmental education. The morning will consist of removing

litter, trash, and recycling debris left around Carrboro and our parks. All are welcome to participate. Please sign-up online or at the recreation front office. If you, your family, or group would like to help with the annual

THE SPORTS PAGES Leagues

Openings are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration forms must be completed & signed by a parent or guardian.

Please note youth athletic programs have various AGE CUT-OFF DATES that are used

to determine a participants playing age.

Youth Baseball - Fall Late August - mid-October A League 6-8 yrs AA League 9-10 yrs AAA League 11-12 yrs (Age as of August 31, 2020)

$65 for Orange Co. Residents; $91 for Non-Orange Residents.

Teams practice twice a week (Mon-Thu) during the evening hours beginning in late August. Games begin in mid-October.

NEW! Whiffle Ball League

Ages: 13-16 years old $80 Team Fee

Play a fun activity with your friends! 4 person teams will play games (depending on the number) on Mon day or Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons starting in mid- September and run through mid- October.

NFL Flag Football Late August - mid-October Teams will practice twice a week (Mon-Thu) during the evenings .

Ages: 9-12 years old (as of August 31, 2020)

$65 Orange Co. Residents $91 Non-Orange Residents

Baseball Pitching Class

Saturdays, Sep 12 - Oct 17 3:00-4:00pm Ages: 9-12 $50

Former, UNC-G pitcher and Minor leaguer Pat Currin will lead instruction on the fundamentals of pitching.

Drop-In Programs

Volleyball Drop-In

*Returning 2021 Tue/Thu Mar - May, 2021 7:00-10:00pm Ages: 16+* $3/player/night *15 & under may attend with an adult

Drop-In programs allow participants the opportunity to play in an informal setting and to meet others of similar sporting interest.

Fall Adult Co-Rec Softball League

Hank Anderson Park August through October Ages: 16+ $500-$600/team (as of Aug 1st) $200 Deposit/team**

**Note: Final fee will be based on number of teams and league format. Non-Orange County residents are required to pay the $26 Out-Of- County fee to participate. Teams play 1-2 games each week on Tue and Thu evenings. Regular season will be followed by a double-elimination tournament. Registrations ended on Friday, July 24.

Fall Adult Co-Rec - Ultimate Frisbee Hank Anderson Park Ages: 16+ $40/participant (as of Aug 1st)

Teams will play 1-2 games each week on Mon and Wed evenings. All registrations must be received no later than 5pm on Friday, August 7.

Athletic Coaches for: Youth Baseball - Fall Flag Football Youth Basketball

Athletic Instructors for: Girls Softball

If you have an interest in volunteering for either of these positions, please see p. 9 for details.

Participants will learn the basic skills of softball. This clinic will serve as an introduction to the game for those who are new to the sport and for existing players seeking extra work on their skills.

Girls Field Hockey Instructional Program Hank Anderson Park Saturdays, Sep 19 - Oct 31

10:00am-12:00pm Ages: 4th-8th Grade $40

Participants will learn the basic skills of field hockey. Program will serve as an introduction to the game for those potentially interested in playing in our spring league (5th - 8th Graders) or for existing players seeking extra work on their skills.

The Youth Council provides a creative outlet for the youth of the community and provides a voice and input

for future recreation programs and events.

Meetings at Century Center are typically held on the third Wednesday,

Food For Life - Cooking Class For Teens

Are you interested in food and nutrition? In this class we will learn about plant-based vegan eating. We will cover material from Food for Life, curricula created by physicians and nutritionists. We will look at evidence-based nutrition and prepare several dishes each evening. You'll have handouts and other material to

take home. It will be fun and tasty, setting you up for the knowledge to make healthy eating choices in life. Enjoy good

Durant Nature Park

Enjoy a scenic hike around beautiful Durant Nature Park in north Raleigh. Red-eyed Vireo, Yellow-throated Warbler,

Ovenbird, and Summer Tanager can often be found in summer. Be sure to bring your water bottle and a snack.

DIY - Ceramic Tile Coasters

Add some color to any room with this fun DYI craft. Join the Recreation staff as we make some Do It Your-self Tile Coasters using sharpie markers. You will end up with some fun and colorful coasters. Preregistra-

Photography Workshop: Manual Exposure

With a little guidance, you can guide your camera to an exposure that you like more than it might come up with on

your own, particularly when you are photographing a scene with significant dynamic range. After reviewing why and how you might want to shoot in manual mode and arming you with

strategies for quickly exposing for a photograph the way you want it to look, you will get to practice and get

feedback. Come with a digital camera and accessories (such as tripod and flash) with which you are familiar.
