    The common CD/DVD drive in todays

    computers and music systems has a similarbasic conceptual complexity

    Both utilize data-controlled synchronous

    rotary and linear electric motor principles But the Space Carousel would have much

    greater 131,300 Km perimeter

    weight of the track, its tubing and loads

    Also, the outer-track spacecraft are being lifted up

    along the structure by loosely dragging against the

    upward-moving mass sliding on the inner track.

    So the structural weight support is primarily a rotary

    electrical motor function, and the lift of captive

    spacecraft is a servoed linear motor function

    Electrical power is input to the synchronous mass

    drivers at the earth terminal site, there converted into

    kinetic energy of the sliding armature mass streams.

    That kinetic energy is thus distributed throughout the

    structure, and in turn can be electromagnetically

    tapped into anywhere, for lifting or servopositioning.

    The sliding armature mass streams are in contra-

    rotating paired sets to balance gyroscopic

    precession, and flow in a cycloid path as the earth

    rotates.

    contact with the air.

    A proposed new

    transportation system needs

    to provide initial vision as

    to what possibilities it

    would allow. Since the

    electrical equivalent of the

    energy that is given to a

    mass by moving it from theequatorial surface up to

    GEO is only 15.7 KWh/Kg,

    an electrically powered

    transportation system

    functioning with an order of

    magnitude of that value,

    seems likely to allow

    applications such as:
