CAROLINE & WILHELM VON HUMBOLDT
Do we owe the ideal of a humanist upbringing to an unusual relationship? Wilhelm von Humboldt (* 22 June 1767 in Potsdam; † 8 April 1835 in Tegel): the great reformer of our educational system, the diplomat, the aesthete, who was tracking down the nature of the ancient world, the linguist and philosopher, the friend of Goethe and Schiller. His personality is unthinkable without his wife. Caroline von Dacheröden (* 23 February 1766 in Minden; † 26 March 1829 in Berlin): the mother of his five children who is at home in the capital cities of Europe. A partner on a par with Wilhelm in terms of curiosity about the world, education, virtuosity and active humanity.
