  • What Others Are Saying Caroline has lived in Rugby, N.D., for 14 years, and has had many exhibits throughout the state. During this time, she has never had to request an exhibition spot. “North Dakota has been good to me, and they love to show my work,” Caroline notes. Out of the many accolades that she has garnered over the years, some that stand out most in her mind are the ones that she received in person. Caroline recalls one instance in which she traveled to Rugby from New Hampshire to look at properties prior to moving there. “The local gift and gallery store was having a celebration for their anniversary, so I went to the reception to check out the local artists,” Caroline shares. She showed her portfolio to some of the artists in attendance, and one woman, Tam G., readily recognized Caroline’s work from a recent article in Watercolor magazine. Not long after relocating to Rugby, Caroline overheard a woman named Nancy R. telling her sister about a very talented artist who had just moved into town. Caroline remembers, “When she told her my name, she said, ‘You know her. She’s famous, you know. I’ve seen her paintings in New York City, and you actually know her.’ ” Another time, Caroline encountered a friend named Sandy J. who had become very distraught while gallery-hopping along the East Coast because she thought someone was copying Caroline’s style. “She was very upset until she realized she was looking at my artwork,” Caroline states.

The paintings below are a few of Caroline’s favorites because of the flower, the composition and the color. All of these paintings are still available for purchase. Please contact Caroline to learn more.

  • Flag Paintings

In addition to garnering acclaim for painting flowers, Ms. Doucette has attracted favorable attention for her ability to paint flags. She feels that her flag paintings are not radically different from her flower paintings, in terms of technique. Over the years, she has honed her ability to replicate the texture of the rolling fabric as it cascades naturally. While the painting of American flags became particularly popular after 9/11, Ms. Doucette had been painting them long before that time, as they were a part of her family's heritage. She shares, "My maternal grandfather joined the U.S. Army in WWI for his citizenship. His sons, my uncles, served in WWII. My mother was in the Army during the Korean War when she met my father, who was in the Air Force. The Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines each got one of my four brothers. I, myself, served in the Army at the end of Vietnam Conflict."
