Mr Wilson Ngesman, ordered a cakefrom a home-run business in AnnanRoad and went to fetch it.“We alerted the business owner te-

lephonically that we were onour way to the house inAnnan to collect ourcake,” Ngesmanexplains. Uponarrival, theyhooted out-side the yardfor the ow-ner to co-me out.“Nobodyrespon-ded,” Nge-smantells.He says

that he andhis wife thengot out of thevehicle, stoodon the pavementand called for theowner, but there wasstill no response.“We saw the warning board

about dogs on their gate,” Ngesman ex-plains. “We decided to go into the yardanyway, because the gate was standing

open, allowing anyone access to theyard.” Ngesman says that, if the ownerof the house had vicious dogs, he doub-ted that the gate would be standingopen, either allowing people in or thedogs out into the street where theycould attack someone.As Ngesman and Motholo walked in-

to the yard, one Bull Terrier came run-ning toward them. “I mana-

A learner from Carleton Jones HighSchool was stabbed by another lear-ner after a fight broke out between thetwo over alleged cell phone theft.The Carletonville SAPS visited the

school last Wednesday, February 26,after receiving complaints that a lear-ner had been assaulted with a brickthe day before. “Whilst our memberswere taking the gr.8 learner’s state-ment in the school’s office block, theyheard a commotion outside,” tells theCarletonville SAPS’s spokesperson,Captain Jabulani Kundethe.When police officers ran outside

they were met with a large crowd oflearners standing over a boy (17) whowas stabbed twice. “The boywas extre-mely worked up and needed to be cal-med by one of the officers,” Kundethetells.A learner from Carleton Jones

who’s identity could not be revealed,spoke to the Herald about the fight.“Two boys stole the cell phone of ano-ther boy,” the learner said. “The boythen got mad and because he knowswho they are, he hit the one boy first.”The learner

says that the twowere fightingwhen the otherboy, also suspec-ted to have stolenthe cell phone, ca-me from behindwith a knifewhich he had got-ten from anotherlearner, and stab-bed the boy.Police officers

immediately ar-rested the sus-pect who was sit-ting nearby. “TheRCL member atthe scene assistedour officers verynicely,” told Kun-dethe.The Herald ap-

as the Department of Education forfeedback about this incident with re-gards to policies at the school, disci-plinary action etc.Although the GDE (Gauteng Depart-

ment of Education) did not respond atall, the SGB Chairlady, Ms. ShirleySinclear did.“The School Governing Body appre-

ciates being approached for input inthis regard,” Sinclair said. “Unfortu-nately the school management maynot, according to the Employment ofEducators Act, comment.” She explai-ned that the SGB also could not com-

ment on either incident for two rea-sons: both incidents are still sub judi-ce and the disciplinary hearings forthese incidents have not yet taken pla-ce. “The SGB must remain impartialuntil the SGB disciplinary committeedelivers its verdict,” Sinclair stated.Furthermore she saying Carleton

Jones High School is a zero tolerancezone for violence of any kind and thatthe school discipline policy and codeof conduct as well as the disciplinaryprocedures as gazetted and determi-ned by the Department of Educationwill be followed to the letter.

“Carleton Jones is known for itsstrict discipline,” she said.“We will take whatever legal means

we can to curb any violence from spil-ling over from the community into ourschool.”She says that ‘the school endea-

My safety always has and will continueto be important to me.I also am skeptical of some police of-

ficers and traffic officials. Some of whoare power hungry and tend to forgetthat they are in their position not onlyto protect, but to also serve - whichme-ans offering assistance to the nati-on...not to intimidate or inflict fearupon people.I once had an unfor-

tunate experiencewith an officer of thelaw. A while back on awinter’s night ataround 19:30, I wastraveling with my sis-ter and a friend ofours. We came uponwhat seemed to be aroadblock. The setupseemed suspicious,but we stopped non-theless... and what anordeal followed! Thepoliceman that hadstopped us was veryrude andharsh.He in-sisted we get out of thecar so he could searchit, when we refused toget out he accused usof being drunk.

We refused to get out of the car be-cause it was late (19:30) and, truth betold, there are a number of false policeofficers who have hijacked innocentand unsuspecting citizens. We tried toexplain our reasons for staying in thecarwhile hedidhis job, needless to sayour plea fell on deaf ears. This ordealwas rather embarrassing and comple-tely unnecessary. A female police offi-cer had to be called to the scene to car-ry out the routine check.What I would like to know is: Why

the miss-use of power by this specificpoliceman? Why did he insist that wewere drunk just because we did not fe-el safe enough to get out of the car. Whywould a single policeman stop and at-tempt to search a car with a femaledriver and female passengers at such

an hour?I seem to have a lot of questions, but

I feel the need to understand his back-ground and his thoughts during thisentire ordeal.Yes, he was just doing his job, but

why so harshly and forcefully? It wasa frightful experience. I would havethought the officer would reprimandus for driving at night if he felt the needto reprimand us, that is, but to forcehis authority on us and frustrate our

trip was not the rightthing to do.My plea to the la-

dies is: This officercould have been acon man and thingscould have turnedout quite differentlyfor us if we did getout of the car. I there-fore urge my fellowsisters; take the ne-cessary safety tipswhen travelling. Tra-vel with your doorslocked, and when atunusual roadblocksas in my experiencekeep the windowsclosed and doorslocked. Ask for thepolice officers’ or the

traffic officers’ identity cards (it is yourright to do so, especially if the charac-ter in question looks suspicious), theofficers may be reluctant and becomeeven more forceful, but trust worksboth ways.They too should be able to produce

their documents if you are expected toproduce your own. Show them youridentity document through the win-dow. Never lower your window if youfeel unsafe. Just enough space for yourhand to fit through the window is allthat is required. I urge law enforce-ment officials to be kind and compas-sionate as they fulfil their duties.No doubt that they have an awesome

task to serve and protect, but when ap-proached by an authentic law enforce-ment official I would like to feel safeand not like a criminal.

started investigating a murder caseon 19 August 2012. Two young men,Johannes Banguede (26) and LesegoMasinye (25) started quarelling atGranny’s Tavern in Extension 2,Khutsong.They had been drinking and it is

not certain what they started fightingabout, but bystanders managed tocalm the men before things went toofar. This was, however, merely thecalm before the storm. The men leftthe tavern and close to TswasongoHigh School, Banguede decided tostab Masinye in the chest. Masinye

died as a result of this fatal stabwound.The following day, February 20, af-

ter hearing that the police were loo-king for him, Banguede handed him-self over. He confessed to killing Mas-inye and told Sgt. Mhlongoeverything. When he appeared incourt, however, Banguede denied eve-rything he had told Mhlongo.The investigating officer was then

called to court to testify, and it seemsit was his testimony which convincedthe magistrate that Banguede was, infact, not telling the truth.On February 17 Magistrate Jan

pal employees and political helperssuch as councillors and ward com-mittee members also seem to have a‘do-not-care attitude’ towards pro-blems that can lead to sinkholes,such as water leakages.Until these mindsets are changed,

attitudes might pose a bigger dangerto residents than the actual dolomiticground on which they are living.

Authorities need to take a more pro-active approach to dealing with thegrowing number of sinkholes in thearea.As good rain continues to fall over

Merafong, so does the possibility thatmore sinkholes may cave in, loom onthe horizon.During the past fewweeks the large

sinkhole inKhutsong’sXhosa sectionas well as sinkholes in Skoppas andeven the new ‘Extension 5’ area havestarted to threaten in increasingnumber of houses. A main water pipe that has been lea-king for months is making the lives ofmany Khutsong residents miserable.During the past few months resi-

dents of the Chris Hani informal hou-sing area have had to endure much.When the Herald visited the problem

area on Monday, a stream of water,

which was at least four metres wide,flowed next to houses before disappea-ring into the ground.The water had a foul smell; and a va-

riety of rubbish was visible, which in-cluded tufts of chicken feathers andmosquito larvae.“It’s not nice staying here. Everything

reeks and themosquitoes are biting us.We asked for help, but themunicipality

is taking their time to come andclean the mess. Our councillor isnot living here anymore - and theward committee members havealso done nothing,” one of the re-sidents whose yard is situatednext to the water, Ms HappinessThwala, told the Herald.“I did not bother to report itmy-

self, as we have reported pro-blems duringmany instances andno one ever comes to help,” sheadded.Upon further investigation, it

came to light that the samestreamof water is a big problem elsewhe-re in the township.“We only saw it when we came

to check for problems last week.We were shocked to see the pro-blems that these people have hadto endure because of the water,”an opposition party member, Mr

Welile Fihla, told the Herald.The twomen also showed the Herald

from where the water leaked into theground, next to Khutsong’s ‘T-Section’.Here the water was bubbling from theground, which may indicate that amain water pipe was leaking.“The water has been leaking like this

for almost a year. The ward committeemembers are using this road almostevery day, but they do not seem to careto do anything about it,” says a residentwho stays near the leakage, Maria Co-sa.According to Cosa, the mosquito in-

festation has become so bad as a resultof the leaking water that she and herfamily have been forced to use mos-quito nets over their beds at night.“We are very concerned about this

problem,but is seems that noone is bo-thered with it.“Themunicipality loses thousandsof

Rands every year because of water loss.Such leaking water can also lead tosinkholes,” Fihla lamented.The Herald sent questions about the

matter to the Marfong City Local Muni-cipality this week.“The Water and Sanitation Section

indicated that thematterwas not previ-ously reported.“The matter will be investigated and

appropriate action will be taken.“Further feedback will be given once

the facts have been established,” a mu-nicipal spokesman responded on Tu-esday.

The description of criminals that wasmade by a young boy, helped police agreat deal last Friday.At around 20:00 the police were cal-

led to Kei Street in Carletonville wherea man had been robbed at gunpoint infront of his home.“The victim toldpolice that hehad re-

turned home from a shop, but beforehe could drive into his yard, he wasrobbed in his driveway by three sus-pects,” said Captain Jabulani Kunde-the, spokesperson of the CarletonvilleSAPS.Onemanwas armedwith aknife, one

with a gun and it is not certain whetherthe third was armed or not. The sus-

pects were demanding money.When the complainant said that he

did not have money, he was forcefullyripped from the vehicle and robbed ofhis cellphones.“While our officers were taking state-

ments in the complainant’s home, theyheard gunshots,” Kundethe tells. “Theyimmediately went out to patrol and seewhat they could find.”After looking around for about 10

minutes, police stopped and searcheda man walking in Reyneke Street, whohad two cell phones hidden in his un-derwear.Thepolice loaded theman in their ve-

hicle and went back to the complai-nant’s house in Kei Street to see whe-ther they could identify him or the cell

phones. Although the cell phones hehad did not belong to the complainant,his son of about 12, gave a descriptionof the man and other things whichwould help police officers make vari-ous arrests.“The little boy said that he had seen

the arrested suspect when he (the boy)was walking with his mom earlier, andthat the suspect had a Puma back packwithhim,”Kundethe tells. “He also spo-ke of a Corsa bakkie he had seen andgave clothing descriptions of othermenhe had seen that looked suspicious.”Whilst there, suspects called the ar-

rested man to tell him that they wereunderway from the Blyvoor directionand that he shouldwait for them. “Theyindicated that they would dim and

bright the vehicle’s lights to identifythemselves,” Kundethe says.A setup-arrest was made by the

quick-thinking officers on duty and afurther four suspects were arrested.They pointed out more involved sus-pects in Doornfontein. “The Puma bagthe boy had spoken of was found on thetable of the suspect’s house inDoorfon-tein,” said Kundethe.An additional suspect was arrested

in Doornfontein whilst two ran away.Thanks to swift reaction by police of-

Two culpable homicides took placein two consecutive days in Carleton-ville last week.On Tuesday, 25 February, a man

suspected to have been in his for-ties, was hit by a vehicle in AnnanRoad in front of the Fire Depart-ment.Firefighters who were standing

outside witnessed the accident. “Iamnot surewhy, but theman literal-ly just ran in front of the vehicle,”said one person who wishes to re-main anonymous. “He probably didnot see it approaching. He died onimpact.” Mr Gerrit Bradnick of theGautengEMS inCarletonville decla-

“Council resolved to do further de-tailed geo-technical studies and dril-ling in the entire Khutsong area. Thiswas done due to the outcry of theKhutsong community to lift the sus-pensiononanydevelopments inKhuts-ong as the result of the geo-technical re-port of November 2002.

The Geo-Tech report was receivedrecently; and based on the recommen-dations of the report, Council will takea decision, in consultation with Natio-nal and Provincial government depart-ments, whether certain residents mustbe relocated or not. The report will ser-ve in the next Council meeting.

With regard to compensation of pro-perties, there is no obligation on go-vernment to compensate owners of pri-vate property. It is the obligation of pro-perty owners to insure theirproperties.

However, it is acknowledged thatma-ny private home-owners do not havesuper structure insurance.

“Council has resolved that due to theextraordinary circumstances prevai-ling in Khutsong, a RDP-equivalenthouse will be provided on a safe standto residents whose houses were decla-red unsafe for occupation. For cases inwhich the stand can be rehabilitated,the rehabilitation cost of the stand andservices will be covered by Council,”the spokesman concluded.

The Merafong City Local Municipalityindicated that it is currently hard atwork on the issue of houses threatenedby sinkholes in Khutsong.

The Herald recently reported thateight houses have so far been demolis-hed at a site in the Xhosa section inwhich a sinkhole developed towardsthe endof last year.Residents indicatedthat a further ten houses were crackingbadly after the problems started.

As far as could be determined, somehouses in other areas of Khutsongwerealso affected by sinkholes.

Although no response was receivedabout the issues after the article appea-red, themunicipality did sendmore in-formation about the matter last week.

According to a municipal spokes-man of the Merafong City Municipality,the sinkholes not only threatens resi-dential houses, but alsomunicipal ser-vices infrastructure.

As a result of the problems, the mu-nicipality secured the services of aGeo-Tech specialist company, VGI, to do in-vestigations on the extent of the pro-blems currently experienced as well asthe rehabilitation of the sinkholes ofwhich VGIwill adviseMerafongCity ac-cordingly.

“To date, we can report that a con-tractor is on site at one of the sinkholesand has started with the rehabilitationprocess. The Geo-Tech investigation isbeing concluded on the second sinkho-le and a report is pending, which willguide the intervention strategy.”

The emergency relocation of house-holds affected by sinkholes and theprovision of temporary alternative ac-commodation were undertaken becau-se of direness of the situation. “At theend of the day the safety of these resi-dents remain paramount,” said thespokesperson.

People staying across Savoy Café inCarletonville are concerned over astrange hole that recently appearedin the ground.

According to the area’s wardcouncillor, Carlos Rebelo, residentscalled him last week to tell himabout a strange hole in the open veldacross from the small shopping cen-tre in Coronation Street.

According to residents, they hadseen municipal contractors cuttingthe grass in the veld a week or so agowhen suddenly they stopped theirwork and called to their colleagues.After the colleagues had seen whatthe others called them to see, theyhastily packed up all their equip-ment and left the site.

When the Herald visited the sitewith Rebelo on Monday, a neat pathcould be seen, which was cut out bythe contractors through the tallgrass before they stumbled upon thehole. The grass around the hole wasstill high, making it inconspicuousto passers-by.

The hole itself was rather unusualand did not have the commoncracks on the ground normally evi-dent at sites where sinkholes cave.The sides as well as the inside of thehole, which was several metres deepand sloped towards the road, al-most looked as if it had been cut out,such as by illegal miners.

“This hole is dangerous because

people can easily fall into it,” Rebelolamented. He added that people oftenwalk through the area from nearbyhouses to get to the café.

“The people who stay in this areasaid that they reported the problem tothemunicipality. No one, however, hasresponded. The community would li-ke the hole to be covered up, or at leastcordoned off so that no one falls intoit,” Rebelo said.

The Herald also heard from anotherconfidential source that the same holemay indeed have been reported to themunicipality earlier.

In the meantime, Rebelo was alsoupset over the fact that many of thebroken street lights in the area havenot been repaired. In January the mu-nicipality indicated that the problemwould be attended to in February. Ho-les were also dug at the bottom of theaffected street lights, presumably toinstall electrical wires or other essen-tial equipment.

The lightswere however never repai-red and the holes left unfilled.

“Pedestrians can easily fall into theholes. One of the residents called methe other day and said that he founda dog in the hole on the pavement infront of his house. The municipalitysaid that this work would have beencompleted in February. Time has pas-sed and no attempts have been madeto solve the problem. I havewritten let-ters to many people in the municipali-ty about it, but to no avail,” Rebelosaid.

“The municipality was made awareof the hole today, when it was reportedto the Parks Section by the contractorwho does grass cutting. Owing to theimminent danger to the workers of thecontractor, the tractor and bush-cut-ting teams,which operated in the area,were withdrawn. The District will takethe necessary actions to secure the si-te,” a municipal spokesman indicatedwhen asked about the hole on Tues-day. The spokesman indicated that theother holes are part of a municipalproject, which has been listed as aquick win project. “The matter will beexpedited; and completion of the pro-ject brought forward,” he said.

Voorverhit die oond tot 200° C. Meng130 g volkoringmeel, 5 ml bakpoeieren kunsmatige versoeter na smaak;voeg by 15 ml gerasperde suurlemoen-skil en 30ml papawersaad. Klits 1 eier,40 ml sonneblomolie en 50 ml melksaam met 40 ml koue water. Voeg bydie droëmengsel en roer goed. Skep inbespuite muffinpanne en bak vir 20minute of tot goudkleurig en deurgaar.

Mini-wortelkoekies (Maak 18)

Voorverhit die oond tot 180°C. Sifsaam: 250 ml meelblom, 10 ml fyn ka-neel, 5ml koeksoda, 5ml bakpoeier ensout; voeg by 250 ml volkoringmeel.Klits saam: 2 eiers, 15 ml vloeibarekunsmatige versoeter, 125 ml sonne-blomolie en voeg by droë bestanddele.Roer by: 250ml appelmoes, 750ml fyn

g canned apples (roughly chopped), 3ml ground cinnamon, 2 ml ground clo-ves, 10 ml liquid artificial sweetener;set aside. Sift together: 250ml flour, 10ml baking powder, 3 ml bicarbonate ofsoda and add 250ml wholewheat flour

and 30 ml digestive bran. Rub in 100g diced margarine with fingertips. Addapple mixture, mix gently. Add 250 mlplain low-fat yoghurt and a little fat-freemilk if the mixture is too dry. Turn intogreased and lined 500 g loaf pan; levelsurface and bake 1¼ - 1½ hours. Cutinto thick slices and servewith diabeticcustard.

Filo pastry pears

Preheat oven to 180° C. Peel 4 ripepears, keeping stalks intact. Brushwith mixture of fresh lemon juice andartificial sweetener; set aside. Melt 60gmargarine and add3ml each- groundcinnamon and ginger. Lay out foursheets or filo sheets separately onworksurface andbrush each sheetwithmar-

garine mixture. Top with another foursheets of filo and brush again. Place apear in centre of each, wrap the pastryaround the pear, brushing with marga-rine to secure - leave the stalk exposed.Trim off excess pastry, but not toomuch - leave a frilly edge around the topof each pear. Place pears on baking traysprayed with non-stick cooking sprayand bake about 30 minutes untilbrown and crisp. Serve hot with diabe-tic custard.

Mock Irish coffeeDissolve 30 ml instant coffee (I used

Jacobs - use your favourite) in 600 mlboiling water, add sweetener to taste.Sprinkle with 15 ml gelatine and stiruntil dissolved. Cool. Pour carefully in-to stemmed glasses, refrigerate untilset.Serve with: CREAM SUBSTITUTE:

During the past week various people inKhutsong Extension 3 had to maketheir way around streams of leaking se-wage.

“This is a big problem for me, themanhole is always leaking,” the elderlyowner of House No 6999 in Extension3’s Shukhuskhuma area, 70-year-oldMs Anna Bahulu, told the Herald onMonday.

At the time, Bahulu ‘s house was al-most an island situated between largedams of sewage mixed with rain water.To get to her front door, visitors haveto tiptoe along a treacherous path onbits of ground that had, for some rea-son or another, not been flooded.

Bahulu herself also had to put downsmall planks in order not to step in se-wage when walking to her outside toi-let. In the meantime, people also can-not cross the road in front of her housewithout stepping in sewage.

Her neighbour, Ms Phumla Mbali, al-so indicated that the sewage was ma-king it very unpleasant to stay in thearea. At the time, Mbali and her familywere walking along a small strip of dryland next to their fence as the widestreet in front of their house was alsoalmost completely flooded.

Residents were also complainingthat the stench from the sewage wasoverbearing.

“We can’t even eat. It has been almosta month since these problems started,”Bahulu told the Herald journalist.

Concerned residents pointed outthat the sewage streamed from sevenoverflowing manholes in the street.

To make matters worse, sewage wasalso streamingfrom the drainpipes in theback yards ofsome resi-dents.

As the adage goes regarding idle hands,I think our town needs more avenuesfor our youth inwhich to express them-selves and have some fun.Currently our recreational centre

doesn’t offer much that would enticeyoung people to join; but if the centreoffered activities such as poetry rea-ding sessions, tap dancing, pottery, ba-king classes, kick-boxing, yoga, etc,perhaps there would be a greater inte-rest in the facility. The benefits of ad-ding these activities are great – not onlywill it bring attention to the recreationcentre and possibly contribute to themaintenance of it, but it will encourageour youth to employ themselves, whichhas dramatic psychological and phys-ical benefits, not to mention, societalbenefits: keeping the youth out of the

streets, is a good way toprevent social discre-pancies and even poten-tial criminal activity.Another benefit is to cre-ate jobs for people whohave the skill to teach inthe above-mentionedarts.I think we should co-

me together as a townand introduce new acti-vities to the recreationalcentre.This week’s question

Siphosethu Mbada – I think theyshould upgrade the parks for yo-ung children and the recreationcentre must also do more for theyouth.

Tebogo Mtolo - We have a lot oftalent in our town and a recreationcentre would help us to developthese talents.

Tumi-Koahela – I think the recreation centreneeds to domorewhichwould help us betterour talents and keep us away from negativesituations.

This is a park in Pretoriusruswhich could alsobe used by the community, but it is in direcondition and unsafe.

Twee jong hengelaars van Laerskool Losberg hetonlangs talle opponente op hul neuse laat kyk.

Twee leerlinge van dié skool, Len Dippenaar,wat nou in gr. 7 is, en Henco van Rensburg, ‘ngr 4-leerder, het verlede jaar groot prestasies aslede van die Sentraal Noordwes Varswater Oe-werhengel-vereniging behaal.

Die twee het egter dié jaar eers hul toeken-nings ontvang. Henco is die vereniging se Sport-man van die Jaar vir 2013 en spog ook met dieprestasie dat hy die grootste graskarp gevanghet. Hy neem in die ‘Penkoppe’-kategorie aankompetisies deel.

Len het op sy beurt met die toekenning vir bes-te vordering, óók in die Penkoppe-afdeling, weg-gestap. Hy het ook die Vereniging by die SA’s byBloemhofdam verteenwoordig.

Albei leerders het ook erekleure vir hul pres-tasies ontvang.

Marathon teams from Sibanye Goldare ready to make their mark in a largecorporate team race.

Two elite teams from Sibanye Goldwill take on thousands of competitorsin this year’s South African leg of theJ.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge,which will be run on Thursday, March6.

The event, will take place at 18:00 atthe Wanderers Club in Johannesburg.It is the tenth year that the event willalso be held in South Africa.

The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challen-ge, which has been running for thirty-seven consecutive years, shall be runthis year in 13 cities and seven coun-tries. The 2013 series attracted an all-time record of 262 311 entrants of 7969 companies.

Despite the number of entries, whichhas been capped at 14 000, the Sibanyerunners are prepared to take some ofthe top places.

The company’s mixed team has sofar won their event seven times, whilethe men’s team have also walked off

with top honours.During last year’s event, the mixed

team came in second while the men’steam came in third. Sibanye’s mixedteam still holds the world record for thebest time in this event, which they setup at the international final in Singapo-re in 2011.

This team is captained by one of Si-banye’s star athletes, the internationalmarathon star, David “Mr. Silent” Nga-kane.

“I feel very confident that we will dowell,” Sibanye Gold’s Sport’s Manager,Sydney Mdluli, told the Herald onTuesday.

“Our guys are training very hard andI feel confident because we are prepa-red. Last of last week, Dave ran his besttime during a marathon,” one of theother team members, Carletonville’sown Olympiad, Coolboy “Swift” Nga-mole, told the Herald.

Ngamole took a break from big athle-tics last year to recover from a leg inju-ry, but is literally up and running again.He is currently practising hard to quali-fy for the Commonwealth Games thisyear.

‘n Groep skopboksers van Carletonvil-le het onlangs hul staal tydens ‘n grootkompetisie gewys.

Verskeie lede van die Modern Mille-nium Skopboksklub het op 22 Februa-rie tydens ‘n ontwikkelingskompetisiein Pretoria presteer.

Volgens die klub se afrigter, Chimmyvan Winkel, het die vegters aan diékompetisie deelgeneem om hulle virgroter kragmeting later die maand voorte berei.

Vegters slyp ook hul vaardighede virdrie groot ‘Great North’-toernooie, watreeds in Mei begin.

“Dit het oor die algemeen baie goedgegaan en ons outjies het heelwat me-daljes huistoe gebring,” het Van WinkelDinsdag aan die Herald gesê.

Verskeie van die klub se vegters hetmedaljes in die ligte- en semi-kontakafdelings ingepalm. Ethan Robinson,Diwan Delport en Allan Twite het eersteplekke in dié afdeling gewen terwyl Da-

vid Robinson, MC van Winkel en JontyMartins met tweede plekke weggestaphet.

Van die vegters het ook in die vol-kontak afdeling hul staal gewys.

Trevor van der Merwe en Gordon duPlessis het met wenplekke weggestapterwyl Dwayne Putter en MJ Willemsedie naaswenners in hul afdelings was.

Intussen is Van Winkel self besig omhom vir ‘n groot geveg, die EFC-krag-meting wat op 27 Maart by die Coca-Co-la Dome in Johannesburg aangebiedsal word, voor te berei.

Van Winkel beplan om in die ligge-wig-afdeling vir vegters van 62 tot 70 kgdeel te neem, wat beteken dat hy buitensy ander voorbereiding vir die geveg,bykans tien kg in drie weke sal moetafskud.

Volgens Van Winkel sal dit hom egternie afskrik nie.

“Baie van die voorbereiding vir só ‘nkompetisie is maar ‘n sielkundige ding.Ek sal ook baie hard moet oefen, elkedag,” het hy bygevoeg.

Skopboksers staan vir niemand terug

Die Modern Millenium Skopboksklub se lede wat onlangs met wenplekke tydens 'n kompeti-sie in Pretoria weggestap het. Voor is David Robinson en Ethan Robinson. In die tweedery is Diwan Delport, Allan Twite, Trevor van der Merwe en Gordon du Plessis. In die derdery is MC van Winkel en Dwayne Putter. Agter is Chimmy van Winkel, Alet van Winkel (be-stuurder), Jonty Martins, MJ Willemse en Willem Willemse (fiksheidsafrigter).

Merafong City-krieketklub se vrouespan hetverlede naweek weer opponente aangedurf.

Die span het verlede Sondag teen Pukke testaan gekom. Merafong het op die ou end met62 lopies verloor, maar tog daarin geslaag omtweede in hul liga te eindig. Dié tweedeplek hetverseker dat hulle Sondag tuis speel. Die tuis-span sal op Fochville in die semi-finaal teendie span van Lichtenburg op die veld stap. Diewedstryd sal om 11:00 by die Gert van Rens-burg-stadion begin. “Enige persoon is wel-kom om Merafong se vroue te kom onder-steun. Toegang is gratis, bring jou piekniek-mandjie en kom braai en geniet die dag,” nooidie klub se voorsitter, Ben Rademeyer, toe-skouers uit. Rademeyer het bygevoeg dat, in-dien die wedstryd uitreën, Merafong as gevolgvan hul goeie punte tot dusver waarskynlik virdie finaal sal kwalifiseer.
