Managing one of the best airports in the world requires a diverse range of skills. Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) hires top-quality people from Hong Kong, the Mainland and around the world, providing a challenging work environment for growth and experience sharing. To develop young talent with an interest in the aviation industry, HKIA introduced a Management Trainee Programme in 2005. This two-year programme is designed to nurture competent and professional management talents for the future development of HKIA. Objectives of the programme are to:
(1) Train and develop a team of management talents specific to the airport business
(2) Equip the management trainees with general airport management skills to meet the future developments of HKIA

Today, HKIA is connected to over 90 cities and towns in southern China by an extensive network of high-speed ferries and cross-boundary coaches. Our cooperation with Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, Zhuhai Airport and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport has further expanded our home market, bringing bountiful business opportunities to Hong Kong.
A variety of airfield services supports the arrival and departure of more than 750 flights a day at HKIA. Our team of professionals efficiently manage the movement of aircraft, passengers, baggage, cargo and mail. HKIA plays a pivotal role in the coordination of apron, runways, aircraft parking and ground servicing to ensure that they are well managed.
It is important to ensure a smooth and efficient passenger flow in the terminals by providing diversified services and amenities, and allowing passengers the leisure and comfort to relax and enjoy at HKIA. In addition, HKIA also enhances hassle-free connectivity between HKIA and the Mainland through cross-boundary modes of transport.
Running a world-class airport involves the planning and facilitation of aviation logistics services which include air cargo, airline catering, aviation fuel and ground support equipment maintenance.
HKIA is an aviation and logistics centre serving as a bridge between the Mainland and the world. It is an integrated multi-modal transport hub where air, sea and land transport seamlessly converge. With close to 90 airlines flying to around 150 destinations worldwide, HKIA reinforces Hong Kong’s reputation as Asia’s World City where people from all walks of life come to travel, build networks and conduct business.
Airport business is built upon the success of our people in delivering quality services and memorable airport experience to our customers in the most efficient, reliable and cost effective manner. The unique nature of the airport business has opened up a wide range of opportunities for diversified talents who work together to contribute to the further growth of HKIA.
To continuously enhance the trainees’ knowledge, competency and experience, the Management Trainee Programme offers:
1. A structured and standardised training curriculum focusing on core airport management competency
2. Job rotations to different functions in which the trainees will undergo on-the-job training and perform meaningful roles
3. Mentoring and coaching by senior management
4. Corporate-wide exposure and development opportunities
First Four Months Rotate to various departments to familiarise the trainees with diversified airport operations and
businesses
Build the breadth and depth of the airport’s core business and operations
5th to 24th Month Undertake two postings, each of which lasts nine to 10 months
Direct coaching by senior management to deepen the understanding of airport businesses and management skills
Participate in internal staff training sessions
After the Two Years’ Training Scheme Continuous development and progression through job rotations, including outport posting.
Duration of each rotation will be subject to individual performance and organisational requirements
The trainees’ assignments and postings will continue to be monitored by the top management
Terminal and Landside
Training and Learning CurriculumDuring the two-year programme, the trainees will undergo an intensive development scheme incorporating classroom training, on-the-job training and personalised rotations to different businesses and functions. They will be equipped with general airport management skills to assume further responsibilities at HKIA.
We provide a well-defined curriculum with emphasis on core airport management competency.
