The next step is career exploration which allows you to search careers to determine those which require the skills and interests you have and at the same time, provide some of the important characteristics you want in your work.Next is to match your interests, abilities and skills with the demands of the occupation you are considering, and then arrive at a decision.Career planning is preparing for the type of job you want in the future. Now, start thinking about what type of work you might want in the future.First, ask yourself: Do I want to go to college after high school? Or do I plan to take up a short-term course?Nest, what do you like doing? Do you like working with people? Do you like numbers? Or do you like working with your hands? Then, ask yourself what you are good at. Do you write well? Do you think fast? Are you good in sports? What is most important to you about a job? Is it the money you can get, is it helping people, or is it being famous? You can talk with people who can help you choose or you can go to job fairs. But what will help you most are the result of the mental ability test and interest inventory administered to you by the guidance staff of your school.Try not a limit your choice to certain jobs because you think they are for men or women only. Today, there are a number of things one can do, whether he is a man or a woman.

(DAT) DIFFERENTIAL APTITUDE TESTS
DAT is designed to provide and integrated standardized procedure for measuring the abilities of boys and girls for purposes of educational and vocational guidance. As such the DAT is primarily a counseling instrument. It has eight subscales (VR, NR, AR, MR, SR, SA, SPELL, LU, SA)VERBAL REASONING (VR): The verbal reasoning test measures the ability to see relationships among words. The test consists of analogies. Each analogy has two words missing—the first word in the first relationship and the second word in the second relationship. The VR test may be useful in helping to predict success in academic courses, as well as in many occupations, including business, law, education, journalism, and the sciences.
NUMERICAL REASONING (NR): The NR test measure the ability to perform mathematical reasoning tasks.NR is important for success in such courses as maths, physics, chemistry, and engineering. The ability to reason with numbers is also important in many occupations, such as bookkeeping, laboratory work, carpentry, and tool making.ABSTRACT REASONING (AR): The AR test is a nonverbal measure of reasoning ability. It assesses how well students can reason with geometric figures or designs. The test consists of figural series completion items. The AR score will often be important when a course in school and/or an occupation requires (s) the ability to see relationships between objects in terms of their size, shape, position, quantity, etc., rather than among words or numbers. Examples include such fields as maths, computer programming, drafting and automobile repair.
MECHANICAL REASONING (MR): The MR test measures the ability to understand basic mechanical principles of machinery, tools, and motion.
Students who do well in mechanical reasoning usually find it easy how to repair and operate complex devices. Occupations such as carpenter, mechanic, engineer, electrician, and machine operator are among those that require good mechanical ability.
SPACE RELATIONS (SR): The SR test measures the ability to visualize a three-dimensional object from a two-dimensional pattern, and to visualize how this object would look if rotated in space.
Occupations in which an individual is required to imagine how an object would look if made from a given pattern include drafting, architecture, art, clothing design, carpentry, and dentistry.
SPEED & ACCURACY (SA): The perceptual speed and accuracy test measures the ability to compare and mark written lists quickly and accurately. The test items do not call for reasoning skills; rather, the emphasis is on speed. The SA test may predict success in certain kinds of routine clerical tasks, such as filing or coding. Good scores are also desirable for certain jobs involving technical and scientific data.SPELLING (SPEEL): The SPEEL test measures how well students can spell common English words. The words are presented in a four-option item format that includes three correctly spelled words and one misspelled word. The ability to spell is a basic skill necessary in many academic and vocational pursuits. It is also a helpful skill in courses that require written reportsLANGUAGE USAGE (US): The LU test measure the ability to detect errors in grammar, punctuation, and capitalization. The test consists of sentences that are divided are into four parts. Students must choose whether one part has an error in punctuation, capitalization, or grammar, or whether the sentence is correct as written.
Well-developed language skills are needed in most jobs
requiring a college degree. Careers in writing and
teaching require a high level of ability in this area.
The language usage and spelling tests are required for
job of secretaries, writers, librarians, and editors all need
to have good spelling and language usage skills
Scholastic Aptitude (SA): It is combination VR and NR.
It is the ability the learn from the books and teachers and
to perform in school subjects. It is also correlated with
IQ.
