Follow your passion – Why? Robb Nash/Values/Morals/God given talents and gifts! Goals!

Know your yourself- it is not always about what you are going to dobut also how you are going to live your life and give back. Success is different for everyone!

Plan A, B, C – be ready for change How you learn, live, communicate and work are and will continue to change in the 21st century!

A ROAD MAP FOR TEENS

Step 1: Knowing yourself Who are you? What is important to you? Likes? Interests?

Step 2: Exploring possibilities try out different areas, list of options that best fit you – networking, try things out

Step 3: Making a choice goal setting (50% more likely to achieve goals if written down)

Step 4: Making it happen Putting your plan into action and learning along the way – learning is life long, focus on the journey as well

Step 5: Re-evaluate/Re-assess

The workplace of today for Canada’s youth:

-An average of 17 employment transitions in their working lifetime.

-A variety of occupations in up to five different sectors of the economy

-Planned and unplanned gaps of no work(Source: Guiding Youth: Finding a Career

Take care of business (marks and required classes to graduate) - CHECKLIST

Pre-requisite classes for post-secondary (Math, Science, English, Social, etc.)

Exploration (Career Events – HANDOUT) Strong Interest Inventory U of S, U of R, SIAST, Open Houses/Tours October (period 4/5 and evening) Trades – SYA (300 hours, first year tuition, etc.) – JOB start looking in February Network!!!!! Try things out!!!!!!

Application Process and Transcripts Handout/Websites – Dates – Start early so you are prepared. SK Poly - FQFA vs High Demand/Nursing/Education/Trades - ASAP Typical Post-Secondary October – October – January = each school and program are different Options (apply to more than one school, visit) Transcripts (School Transcript – three days notice / Official Transcript online – 5 schools for $20)
