1 Introduction

The device is labelled with the CE symbol and therefore conforms to the respectiveEuropean standards.

The device is only intended for private and personal use.The heart rate pulse watch is intended to allow or provide the following:- continuously supplied information on the heart rate during sports activities- an optimum training check thanks to the intelligent training program- optionally set the lower and upper heart rate limits

(An alarm will sound if your heart rate falls below the lower limit or exceeds the upper limit).

- information on the currently set watch time and alarm functions astopwatch function

2 Essential safety notices Caution! Important notice:

People with heart pacemakers must not use this heart rate pulse watch!Important notice: Please note that this heart rate pulse watch is only a device to assist you during training and is not a piece of medical equipment. Use of theheart rate pulse watch and measured values that you have ascertainedyourself are in no way a substitute for check-ups carried out by a doctor.

Note:You should also adjust the frequency and duration of your training to suit yourbody's level of health and fitness. This is the only way you can ensure you achieve optimum success during training and so improve your health.

- Please read the following information carefully.- You must keep the operating instructions in a safe place and if applicable pass them on to other people together with the heart rate pulse watch.- Only use the product for the purpose for which it is intended in accordance with these operating instructions.

⇒ Remove the old lithium battery and replace with a new one.

Note:Ensure polarity when inserting the lithium battery.

⇒ Close the lid on the battery compartment. When fitting the battery, ensurethat the seal on the compartment lid closes tightly against the chest straphousing.

Changing the battery in the heart rate monitoring watch:

⇒ Use a suitable tool to unscrew the screws in the armbands.⇒ Carefully remove the armbands from the heart rate monitoring watch.

Note:Ensure that the armbands are not mixed up.

⇒ Unscrew the four screws in the battery compartment to remove the compartmentlid.

Note:The battery compartment lid must not be turned the wrong way.

⇒ Carefully release the retaining bracket of the battery compartment using a suitable implement (e.g. a needle).

⇒ Carefully remove the old lithium battery.⇒ Replace with a new one.

Note:Ensure polarity when inserting the lithium battery.

⇒ Press the retaining bracket into the locking mechanism.⇒ Insert the battery compartment lid in such a way as to ensure contact between

the small spring and the small hole in the foil.Non-observance of these instructions will prevent the transmission of signals.

⇒ Connect the battery compartment lid with the heart rate monitoring watch housing.

Note:When fitting the battery, ensure that the seal on the battery compartment closes tightly against the compartment lid. This ensures optimum protection from moisture.

Note:It can take a few seconds for transmission to be activated. Transmission might be delayed as result of low temperatures. If necessary, experiment with the position of the transmitter.

Note:External radio frequencies can interfere with wireless transmission.- Sports equipment,

- mobile telephones,- wireless bicycle computers,- high-voltage electricity lines

and other wireless transmitters can all cause the signal pulses to be transmittedirregularly. This can cause an error that makes a "0" appear in the display during training. If you are training with several persons who are wearing heart rate pulse watches (even those of other makes), the signals might superimpose one another. This situation can cause the heart rate to be displayed incorrectly. The display should provide you with a correct readout again as soon as youmaintain a distance of around 2 metres between yourself and other people'stransmitters.

Figure 1 Figure 2

6.1 Putting on the transmitter6 Getting ready for use

Note:The chest strap and elastic strap must be attached to one another (seeFigure 1) and worn close to your chest directly in contact with your bare skin(see Figure 2).

13

Note:It is very important that the transmitter pads (chest strap) are worn in close contact with your chest. The position of the chest strap has an influence on how it works. Constant contact must be maintained between your skin and the chest strap and they must not become separated even when your body performs larger movements, for instance, when taking a deep breath.Dense chest hair can also prevent the signal from being transmitted or can disrupt it.

Note: You can improve the contact made with your skin (and therefore the quality of the transmitted signal) by slightly moistening the transmitter's two conductivepads with saliva or ECG gel (available from chemist's shops).

⇒ Find the optimum position for the chest strap!!!⇒ Adjust the chest strap in such a way that it is positioned securely under the

chest muscles. Only then can heart rate signals be monitored and transmittedreliably.

⇒ Wear the chest strap for a few minutes before setting off so that it can warmup to your body temperature.

⇒ Now secure the heart rate pulse watch to your wrist. If reception is good, the heart symbol will flash in time with the incoming heartrate signals whilst in training mode.

15 Calculating the lower and upper heart rate values

Caution:Before starting training, it is very important that you know your maximum heart rate (MHR) as well as your training zone (i.e. the "lower" and "upper" limits for your heart rate). These values help you achieve the maximum benefits for your health from your training program.

Note:The heart rate pulse watch is equipped with an intelligent training program. It helps you define your MHR.During the training process, the "lower" and "upper" heart rate limits are adjusted automatically for the training level.

You can work out your MHR yourself using the following rule of thumb:

Men: 220 - age = Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)Women: 230 - age = Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)

70%

80%

90%

Red area (maximum performance)

www.runtec.info

Calculate your lower and upper heart rate limits by multiplying your personal maximumheart rate (MHR) with the percentage value stated for the training zone that you haveselected. e.g.:

The following applies to a 40-year-old man who wants to keep his weight in check:

Lower heart rate limit (220 - 40) x 60 % = 108(beats per minute)

Upper heart rate limit (220 - 40) x 70 % = 126(beats per minute)

The following applies to a 30-year-old woman who does aerobics:

Lower heart rate limit (230 - 30) x 70 % = 140(beats per minute)

Upper heart rate limit (230 - 30) x 80 % = 160(beats per minute)

35

16 Stopping the training program

⇒ Press and hold down the "ST./SP./+" button (1) for 2 seconds to stop the training program (e.g. the warm-up phase).

Note:You can interrupt the intelligent training program by briefly pressing the "ST./SP./+" button (1).The training program must then be restarted afterwards. It is not possible to resume the current training program!

www.runtec.info

You can check your statistics in stopwatchmode.⇒ Press the "MODE" button (4)

repeatedly until " " appears in the display. You are now in stopwatch mode.

⇒ Press the "MEM" button (5).

Note:You can view the following valuesif you press the "MEM" button (5)repeatedly:• the average heart rate

(AVG)• the total training duration• the calorie consumption• the fat breakdown

21 TroubleshootingIf a problem arises, please check the following table first. If the problem cannot besolved, please contact our service hotline (see overleaf).

Problem

The transmission between the chest strap(transmitter) and the heart rate pulsewatch is defective.

A "0" appears in the display during training.

A symbol depicting a crossed-out batteryappears in the display.

The training program's analysis is incorrector cannot be carried out.

Remedy

The transmitter pads (chest strap) mustbe in close contact with the skin/chest(e.g. dense chest hair can impede thetransmission), see point 6.1.

External frequencies (mobile telephones,high-voltage electricity lines, etc.) caninterfere with the wireless transmission.

Try to avoid these sources of interference.

The battery in the heart rate pulse watchhas become too weak.

Both batteries must be replaced.

Check the data you have entered in the"USER" profile.

Reset the heart rate pulse watch to itsoriginal state (factory default settings).
