PLAY to make Positive Life Experiences!
Did you know CARD offers literally hundreds of programs for all ages and groups? This includes day camps, swim lessons, youth and adult leagues, and so MUCH MORE! Did you also know that CARD programs can encourage positive life experiences and tools? There are numerous stories of CARD participants, like you, who have enhanced their lives because of intentionally choosing to PLAY!
A 9 year old CARD participant began Fencing in January 2014. In the past three months she improved her skills while discovering a passion for the art. Because of her fencing devotion, she is more dedicated to maintaining good grades at school and recently purchased her own fencing equipment by saving her own money.
A participant within CARD’s Stretch & Tone Class, over a one year period, improved her sense of well-being, while meeting socially with new people.
The above stories were possible because they took the first step by signing up in a CARD program. What CARD stories do you have? If you wish to share, please contact Lisa Almaguer at [email protected]! Let CARD know how YOU have enriched your life through CARD!
We’re so sure you will like our programs, we are willing to guarantee them. See page 64 for details.

Our Time Together: Parent/Child Program:for 18-35 Months OldFall 2014 Begins Wednesday, 9/3 Our Time Together can be an exciting and fun opportunity for your child to improve current skills, learn new skills, make friends, and have fun. This is also an opportunity for us to create a parenting community and share development milestones. During the toddler years, your child will make huge strides physically, intellectually, and emotionally, whether it’s learning to use the potty or stacking blocks.
Something to observe in this program is how your child plays adjacent to other children in the playgroup. This cooperative social interaction is called parallel play and helps children begin language development, build confidence, and form relationships. Your child will increasingly learn to share and become aware of other’s emotions, as well as learn cause and effect through trial and error of adjusting and solving problems in play. Not only are our classes a wonderful bonding opportunity for you and your child, they are an excellent way to meet new friends, introduce your child to other children, and find others that will support you through the exciting adventure of parenthood.
What is the structure of the class? Each day the classroom will be set up with developmentally age appropriate toys and activities that parents can do with their child. The teachers will be there to assist parents and children in participation.
Do I need to stay with my child during class? Yes. This class is formatted as a parent/child class with the goal of giving parents an opportunity to bond, meet other parents that have children the same age as theirs and provide parent support.

Thrive: K-12Learning CenterOur mission at Thrive is to inspire a life-long love of learning by respecting each person’s individual interests, strengths, and capabilities. It is a place where children are free to learn, inspire, imagine, create, play, and shine!
All sessions will live up to that mission by being a free and open structured
environment where children are liberated to choose their level of participation. Session advisors work with the children to create an emergent and free flowing curriculum that derives from the imaginations of the children enrolled.
Learning invitations are presented in an environment that fosters imagination, self- motivation, and meaningful experiences. Books, websites, magazines, nature, music, math concepts, science projects, art projects, building materials, creative play, and idea sharing will spark the imagination.
Thrive also presents a wonderful opportunity for social experiences and creative expression.
• ALL Thrive programs are held at the PV Recreation Center, 2320 North Ave.
• Each session is limited to 16 participants• All sessions start the week of September 2nd
We strongly encourage families to stay with the same time schedule throughout the year if at all possible. This encourages continuity within the group and fosters strong bonds. Some participants come for all the sessions and others choose to sign up for one or two. Advisors: Cyndi Pereira and Jennifer Anderson.
CARD is a vendor for South Sutter and CORE. To register with a PO from your ES, please go into the CARD office at 545 Vallombrosa Avenue in Chico prior to the start of your session. There is a $20 supply fee for each session, payable to an advisor on the first day. This cannot be included in the PO.

FAQ’s:
Q: How do I sign my child up?
A: To find out if your child’s school has openings, or to get on the waiting list, contact the CARD office at 895-4711. Many schools have little or no waiting list. However, CARD recommends you put your child on the waiting list when they are 2 years old to help ensure you will have a spot when they enter school.
Q: Do I have to put my child on the waiting list each year?
A: No. Once you put your child on the waiting list, you stay on until you are offered a spot in the program. Please make sure to contact us to update your phone number and address if they change.
Q: Does my child have to attend every day?
A: No. The program is for your benefit, and you may use it as you feel necessary. The fee for the program is a flat rate fee. CARD does not prorate for days not attended.
Child Testimonial:

expectations for afterschool childcare. It is affordable, safe

NEW Qi Gong Tai Ji WorkshopQi Gong, a Chinese form of mindful breathing, is the achievement through practice of the skills of breathing and the cultivation of Qi, or internal, functional energy. The word Qi in Chinese also means breath. It is through breathing that relaxation is achieved. Tai Ji Quan utilizes a series of slow movements through which the practitioner becomes balanced, flexible and more responsive while less reactive to external stimuli. Qi Gong and Tai Ji represent a Yin/Yang polarity: stillness within which there is internal movement, and movement within which there is a goal of stillness. This class offers an experiential introduction to these two arts. Instructor: Higgy Lerner, L.Ac. PV Rec Center, Multi-Purpose Room.

League MovementTeams may be subject to move from their league of choice at the discretion of the Recreation Supervisor if it is deemed for the benefit of the CARD softball program. Prior history and records will be considered when it comes to league placement. Spring or Summer league champions MAY be moved up to a higher league for the subsequent season if also deemed appropriate and teams who struggle in a given league may also be moved down. The goal here is to facilitate proper league placement over the course of time, while teams may not consider themselves a “B” or “C” level team, they may be one of the top teams playing on that evening and it may be necessary that they play in that league.
