NORFOLK ISLAND CENTRAL SCHOOL Volume No. 50 Week 10(B ) 23rd September 2019 Principal’s Report School Leaders 2020 On Tuesday, 17 th September, at our K-12 assembly, our Senior School Captains for 2020 were formally announced to the school community and inducted into their positions. I’d like to formally thank our current Senior School Leadership team for their ongoing commitment to our school; they have led by example and have set a high standard of how future leadership teams should ‘Play the Game’ to value-add to the school and broader community. Later in Term 4, we will go through the process of electing Junior School Captains. After these elections, we will have another formal assembly to induct them. Congratulations to Anson King, Harrison Hayes, Senior School Captains; Senior Vice Captains, Mirabelle Creek and Kya Snell; Senior Prefects, Joni King and Cameron Rogers. Preliminary Exams Our Year 11 students commenced their Preliminary HSC Exams last Friday with English, Photography and Mathematics. These exams will continue next week until Thursday, 26 th September. We wish our students all the best throughout their examination week. On their return to school in Term 4, they will begin their Year 12 courses. Year 12 Graduation Assembly and Last Day of School This week will be Year 12’s final week of formal schooling. On Friday, Year 12 students will be dressing up and asking you to donate money to a Norfolk Island Charity. Consider having a few coins in your vehicle as you drive to work to help support the valuable work done by our local charities. A presentation of the money collected occurs at the Year 12 Farewell assembly that will begin at 12:00pm on Friday, 27 th September. All students are asked to wear their full school uniform. This will not be a mufti day. Year 10 into Year 11 Subject Selection Interviews All students and parents have had the opportunity to go over the subjects that students have chosen to study in Year 11, 2020. This has allowed parents to ask any questions they might have in relation to study patterns or university/TAFE requirements. If parents and students have any further questions, please contact Ms Peterson, our Careers Adviser. Welcome Home We welcome home today our Year 6 students, Mrs Tierney and Mr Carr after attending a 10 day excursion to the mainland. I am sure it has been a very exciting and educational experience. School Holidays A reminder that school breaks up for holidays this Friday, 27 th September, and with Show Day on Monday, 14 th October school will resume for all staff and students on Tuesday, 15th October. A & H Show Monday 14th October 2019 (1st Monday of Term 4) IT’S SHOW TIME AGAIN!! YIPPEE!!!!

All students entering into the A & H Show need to register their entries at school with their teacher before the end of Term 3. Artwork, cra s, tex les etc should be brought to school by Week 10.  

Any entries done during the holidays MUST be entered and paid for at the A&H Show office behind Rawson Hall, and then brought to the Supper Room on Sunday 13th October from 1:30pm to be included.  

Any perishable/fragile entries (cakes, sand posies, vegie models, lego models etc) must be delivered to the Supper Room on Show Day between 8‐8.30 am ready for judging at 9am. 

All K‐2 students need to bring in $1 to their teacher for their show entries which have been organised at school by their teachers. 

Students in Years 3‐6 need to bring to their teacher $2 or 20c per item for their entries. Secondary are to organise their entry money with their teachers. 

Entries must be student’s original work and should be labelled with their individual number on the front and on the back with their name, year and entry class. 

All wri ng entries must be entered at the school and handed to Mrs Tierney or Ms Hale no later than Friday 27 September.  Thanks yorlyi. 

REMEMBER: THERE IS A SIZE RESTRICTION for K‐6 artworks and models. See Mrs Tierney if unsure.

Points to be allocated according to criteria within two areas namely:

School sports

School endorsed representative

Note: Nominations will be accepted from the students themselves or their parents. No staff nomina-tions (other than for their own children) will be accepted.

In order to be considered, candidates must have participated in all three of NICS carnivals unless ex-tenuating circumstances apply, e.g. (Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals)
