Fronteras, Sonora in July 1736. He was born in a military family on the northern frontier of New Spain. He was the son of Captain Juan Bautista de Anza 1. He advanced quickly and became a captain by 1760. He married to the daughter of Spanish mine owner Francisco Perez Serrano in 1761. They had no children.

California Expeditions 加州的旅行

In 1772, he proposed an expedition to Alta California in 1769. He took 3 padres, 20 soldiers, 11 servants, 35 mules, 65 cattle, and 140 horses. On his return from his expedition in 1777, he journeyed to Mexico City with the chief of the Yuma Native American tribe who wanted them to build a mission. On August 24, 1777, the Viceroy of New Spain gave Anza the title Governor of the Province of New Mexico. He advanced to lieutenant-colonel by the King after completing the successful expedition of discovery.

He began organizing a second expedition in Mexico City in January 1775 to colonize San Francisco Bay. Upon his return to Mexico City, Anza was made commander of all the troops in Sonora in the fall of 1776. He asked to be released as Governor in 1786 and his request was granted in 1787.

Captain Juan Bautista De Anza was made commander of the Buenaventura Presidio in 1787. He was also made commander of all the troops in Sonora shortly thereafter. When he died, he was buried in the Church of Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion de Arizpe in December 1788.
