FIRST ALARM JOB FAIR AUG 9
The Santa Cruz Children’s Museum of Discovery (SCCMOD), in the planning stage for two years, has found a home. On November 1, SCCMOD will open in the Capitola Mall in the former Abercrombie and Fitch location and will house interactive exhibits that showcase the wonders of Santa Cruz County that will entertain, as well as educate children and families.
SCCMOD will contain a range of exhibits from high tech to hands-on, many that will engage the senses and provide discovery experiences. SCCMOD will have a focus on the creative arts as well with a stage, puppet theater and frequent and varied art and expressive arts activities related to exhibits.
A dedicated Toddler area will be a significant part of SCCMOD featuring an Imagination Playground building set and exhibits themed around the topics of health and energy. SCCMOD will partner with a non-profit which will offer classes in Claymation, Lego-robotics and programming among other topics for children from ages 4 years on up. Special events for children and families will be a regular part of the SCCMOD experience with guest artists, performers, scientists and other talented community members sharing their particular know-how during Family Date Nights. An activities room will host classes, workshops and daily hands-on activities related to exhibits. Rotating exhibits will add variety so children and families can enjoy MOD in new ways on return visits.
In an effort to extend the fun and learning beyond the Museum, SCCMOD will have a retail store with a wide range of merchandise enabling children and families to take a bit of the discovery experience home with them.
