CAPITOL INFORMATION Super Congress (Finals) will be held at the Texas State Capitol at 1100 Congress Avenue. Below is some important information to help you navigate the transition from the UT campus to the Capitol Building. BE ON TIME Traffic in Austin is heavy in the mornings and parking may be hard to find, even in garages. All personal items (backpacks, purses, laptops) and Congress materials must go through the metal detectors, so allow extra time for this. DROP OFF AND PICK UP Load and unload at the East Entrance on Brazos Street between 12th and 13th Streets. PARKING Capitol Visitors’ Parking Garage is at 1201 San Jacinto. Metered spaces are available throughout the area. Bus parking is permitted along the east side of Trinity, between 12th and 15th Streets, and on the west side of San Jacinto, between 13th and 14th Streets. (Refer to map) The League is not responsible for any tickets issued for illegal parking. Vehicles left in a towing zone or without payment in a pay lot will be towed. ENTERING THE CAPITOL The most convenient access once you’ve unloaded is the East entrance to the Capitol parallel to Brazos Street. State Troopers are expecting you there, although other entrances are also available. The accessible entrance for visitors with disabilities is located at the Capitol’s North Entrance. There is an accessible path from the East Grounds entrance to the North doors. Upon entry, you and all of your personal items and Congress materials must pass through metal detectors, so take care to avoid items that might cause problems. As you wait to step through the metal detector, remove belts, jewelry and be prepared to empty your pockets into the tray bins. This will reduce your wait time. Laptops, purses and backpacks will also be required to go through metal detectors. The less you must take into the Capitol, the faster the process will go. Once inside, walk down the hallway to the Rotunda and turn right. Follow UIL signs to the elevators leading to the Capitol Extension Building. Once in the Extension, continue to follow UIL signs to the Capitol Extension Auditorium. (Refer to maps) UIL staff will also be available for directions. FOOD AND DRINK LUNCH BREAKS: The Capitol Grill is located inside the Capitol Extension Building and has a Grab & Go area that is open until 5 pm. They also have a Grill that is open until 2 pm and a Deli Fresh area that is open until 3 pm. Vending machines are available at all times. There is no need to stand in one long line at the entrance. Move quickly to the particular station where you wish to purchase food items. COMPETITION ROOMS All conference rooms are monitored by closed-circuit television. House and Senate members in every office can see and hear you at all times. Be mindful of this fact and maintain decorum. Judges and Parliamentarians sit at the dais around the Capitol seal at the front of the chamber. Presiding Officers sit at a table on the floor of the chamber at the front of the room. Representatives sit in the center theatre seats on the floor of the chamber. Audience may sit in additional theatre seats in the wings. No food or drink is allowed inside the conference rooms or the Capitol Extension Auditorium.
