breakdown, and even suicide.
Our service is tailored to
provide support to those in
debt who are nding it hard
to cope.
CAP recognises that debt
can oten be a symptom or
cause o wider issues. Each
CAP Debt Centre has a team
o volunteer Beriendersthat plays a key role in
supporting clients practically
and emotionally through
riendship and personal
support. In addition, they
have designated team o
Debt Advisers at who areavailable via the phone.

How do we help?
Local CAP representatives visit
clients in their own homes.
Time is taken to ully explain
each step o the process ace-
to-ace, to answer questions
and address any concerns.
CAPs service is also nancially
accessible as its completelyree. There are no minimum
repayment requirements
and it does not matter how
much debt someone has or
how low their income is. I a
client doesnt have a basic
bank account when they call
CAP, a local Beriender or CAP
representative will help themto open one.

I a client receives a letter
rom a creditor, they
simply orward it to their

Refer your clients to CAPby asking them to call
0800 328 0006I we have a debt centre near their home we will be able to book in their rst
appointment. You can check whether CAP has a debt centre that would be
able to help them through the postcode search at www.capdebthelp.org.
Calling on behalf of a client: I it would help the client, we are happy or you
to make the call and pass the phone to them once it has connected. However,
we cannot make an appointment or someone via a third party.
Self employed people: In some circumstances CAP may not be able to oerhelp to sel employed people. We would still encourage any potential clients in

Janets storyI went to the doctors because I needed
to take care o the children and I was not
unctioning properly. I walked into the
surgery and picked up a CAP leafet, gotsome pills to see me through, went home
and made the call.
When Bernie (CAP representative) came to
our home I elt like she was my best riend;
she listened to me when I needed it most. We handed over all our paperwork.
Bernie came back a week later and told us what to pay when.
It was brilliant. We were given a realistic amount to pay o our debts yet still
put ood on the table.
It is a pleasure working with Christians Against Poverty. I eel that we
have built up a productive working relationship which has continued
to grow. This has been benecial or our clients and allows us to have a
greater understanding and empathy with their individual circumstances.

Zahraas storyJust when I couldnt cope anymore, I heard
about CAP. I was a little apprehensive
because Im a Muslim, but when Stephen (CAP
representative) came, I elt so comortable andnever elt judged. I just cried with relie.
Stephen organised a budget or me and talked to
the people I owed money to. The CAP Account is
brilliant; I pay in enough or my bills and debts,
then everything I have let is or ood and essentials, plus Ive got savings.
I have a lie now; people say Ive changed and Im not always stressed
anymore. Im happy and content again, which I never thought possible.
QuestionsHow does your Christian ethos affect
your service?
As a Christian organisation, our aith is
our motivation and we have a strong
Christian ethos. Our representativesmay oer prayer and discuss issues o
aith with clients i they are interested.
However, their response does not
aect the service oered. The majority
o our clients are not Christian and
we ully respect clients religious
backgrounds and belies.
How are you funded?CAP is a registered charity and
receives over hal o its income via
regular donations rom individuals
and churches. More than 25% comes
rom one-o donations as a result
o undraising activities such as
sponsored events. The remaining
income is accounted or in a number
o ways including grants and
corporate unding through our Fair
Share scheme (approx. 7%).
Who regulates you?
CAP is regulated by the Oce o
Fair Trading and holds a Consumer
Credit Licence (no. 413528) and a
Group Consumer Credit License (no.
G900031) that cover all our debt
counselling and management.
Is there a charge for your service?
No, it is completely ree. Ater six
months o working with us, clients
are given the opportunity to makevoluntary donations to CAP, unless
they are on an insolvency route.
CAP strives to prevent clients eeling
any sense o obligation when the
opportunity to donate is presented.
Many o our clients choose not to
make a donation and this does not
aect the service they receive.
