Objectives:
Form strong links with parents in order to support our students throughout their studies
• Understand how the 6th form functions
• Gain a better knowledge of option choices and ‘Skills Plus’
• Know when to expect Feedback/Reports/Parents Evenings
• Understand the 4 stages of support/intervention
• Receive or apply for a netbook
Welcome
• Quality learning and Teaching experience- 100% A*-E
• Support from teachers, tutors, Mrs Dorsett, Miss Roden and myself
• Outstanding 6th form facilities (6th form centre, computer room, study room)
• Excellent Information, Advice and Guidance in careers.
- In 2014 67% of CCHS students went to University
- 17% attended a Russell group University
• Communication and feedback regarding students progress in each chosen subject area.
What you can expect from us..
• All year 12 students study 4 option choices
• Year 12 students will have 5 study periods a week (maybe more if they attend Twilight lessons)
• Year 12 students remain in school during study periods. They should sign in with Miss Roden in the 6th form centre
• All students have tutor in the afternoon (no morning registration)
• Dress is smart/casual except Fridays which is ‘Super Smart Friday’
• Attend all lessons- please collect work and inform teachers of known absences
• Complete work in their own time- suggested 2-3 hours most week day evening
A Day in the life…
• Students have selected their preferred subject choices
• If anyone is struggling with a subject or is thinking about a change, now is the time to do it.
• Most students will drop one subject when they move into A2, providing more time to get better grades in the other 3
• 4 subjects are needed in yr 12 in order to ensure that they have the best 3 for yr 13 and gain more UCAS points
Option Choices
• 1 lesson a week
• Students have chosen to study one of the following:
- Asdan level 3 CoPE Award
- BTEC Certificate in Dance
- Free Standing Maths Qualification
-Extended Project Qualification
-Arts Award Gold
• Students gain valuable experience in applying their skills and gain up to 70 UCAS points
‘Skills Plus’
• First report with a written comment from each teacher – End of November
• Second report (Data Report) handed out and explained at 6th form Parents Evening – Thursday 19th March
• Data Captures:
- 5 times a year
- 6th form tutor review week after each one
Reports and Parents Evenings
Purpose:
• Inform the student, parents and myself that they are not meeting their full potential
• Help students to refocus and improve their work ethic
• Provide specific feedback on what needs to be done to improve
Stage 1: Teacher Support
Stage 2: Director of Learning Community Support
Stage 3: Assistant Head Teacher (Post 16) Support
(6th form attainment manager support)
Stage 4: Contract for learning
4 Stages of Support/intervention
• Netbooks are limited- we have had unprecedented demand for them this year
• If you have your own laptop/iPad please bring this to lessons/study
• Contracts will be issued tonight with a £30 deposit
• Names will be taken for those who would like to be placed on a waiting list for returns of netbooks from other students as the year progresses
• Please look after them- buy a cover/bag and keep it safe!
