What an amazing weekend of rugby... over 600 matches, over 20 Canes teams involved, and some really excellent games of rugby.
Firstly, a massive round of applause for all the young Canes who played or supported their teams at the weekend. The level of skill, commitment, enthusiasm, fitness and fun that you showed throughout the day was amazing and made all of the coaches, parents and supporters very proud. Well done to you all for this.
Secondly, a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped out over the weekend with organising the tournament, pitch marshalling, first aiding, etc. The tournament would not have run as smoothly as it did without you. There are too many to mention in person but I would like to say thank you to Kim and all of our organising committee, and to Billy and Eileen who manned the registration desk and did the scoring all day on Friday.
Finally, thank you to all the parents and supporters for all the encouragement you gave over the 2 days. Going around the pitches the level of noise was amazing and the lift it gives the kids with the positive encouragement is what puts smiles on their faces, win or lose. I hope your vocal cords have recovered!

Hurricanes Ladies hosted the the 3rd regular season 7's tournament at their home 7he Sevens on January 18th. The day was a full tournament including U18 girls, Ladies B sides and Ladies A.
The Canes came into the A division in first place and the Cones in second place looking to climb the tables. U18 girls met Sharjah in the final for the Ashes Teddy, which is now home safe with the Hurricanes Girls for another year thanks to a nail-biting final win, and despite the loss of their skipper to an earlier injury.
The B division final saw the Cones vs. a tough Doha Oryx, and again a close game came to the home team, the Cones pulling out some massive full field tries for win.
The A division final, again the the home team Canes against rivals Abu Dhabi. Early tries by AD put Canes in a deficit but as the minutes ticked on the Canes got a few tries in. The last minute of the match the Canes touched one down but the win came down to the conversion. Unlucky for the skipper of the Canes as a missed conversion meant the only one of the Hurricanes teams to get silver that day. All was good when the pints rolled out and celebration was in order for 2 out of 3 Hurricanes winning gold.
Well done to all, and massive thanks for the support from club and sponsors in hosting such a spectacular day.
