Job Purpose The post will work within the Together integrated drug and alcohol service, as part of a Recovery Navigation team. Recovery Navigators work with service users throughout their time in the service, ensuring one consistent point of contact and a focus on sustainable recovery. They provide co-ordination and key-working including assessment, recovery planning and the delivery of interventions. Recovery Navigators promote strength-based working, recovery orientation, visible and attainable recovery from first contact and system wide engagement and joint working with other services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Service provision:

- Promote an ‘everyone’s job; no wrong door’ approach to engagement - Work from a variety of locations, including hubs, satellites, partnership sites and in the community

including outreach - Deliver triage and comprehensive strength-based assessments, harm reduction and brief

interventions, including naloxone training and distribution - Act as Lead Practitioner where coordination sits with Together and support other services where

coordination sits with them - Carry a caseload providing effective co-ordination and key working; undertake collaborative recovery

planning and reviews and make appropriate linkage to other services across Devon - Utilize a trauma sensitive, warm and non-judgmental approach to develop a strong collaborative

therapeutic alliance; genuinely hearing, accepting and responding to people’s stories - Undertake risk assessment and risk management planning in consultation with colleagues and

partner agencies as appropriate. - Promote involvement of, and provide support to, families and carers wherever possible - Work flexibly to support people to meet diverse needs and aspirations, using a range of tools and

techniques - Proactively support service users to participate in a range of recovery, psychosocial and support

activities, appropriate to their phase of recovery and including mutual aid; prioritizing the most complex and vulnerable people for enhanced provision and intensive interventions

- Deliver evidence based psychosocial interventions (group & 1:1) and build on peoples’ strengths and sources of support

- Work collaboratively with the team, other services, recovery coaches, peer supporters/mentors and volunteers, ensuring all aspects of treatment are effectively planned, integrated and coordinated

- Offer a flexible service locally in partnership with Health, Social Care, police and concerned others responding to current local issues

- Participate in joint assessment, joint working and information sharing agreements with other services across Devon (e.g. young people, housing, mental health, criminal justice, domestic and sexual violence and abuse services)

- Work with prison substance misuse teams and prescribers to ensure an offender’s smooth transition in to the community. Share information for people going into prison.

- Provide prison in-reach ensuring effective communication, information sharing and release planning; avoiding duplication of assessment

- Support individuals to use digitally based services and interventions - Undertake urine and saliva drug testing, taking blood pressure, monitoring physical health - Provide needle exchange and referral for blood borne virus testing and vaccination - Adhere to Multi–agency processes – e.g. MAPPA, IOM, MARAC - Adhere to the principles, policies and procedures of effective safeguarding for vulnerable adults and

children - Take a ‘Think Family’ approach, adopt the EDP Safeguarding Toolkit and comply with EDP’s

Safeguarding policy and Devon Children and Family Partnership’s procedures - When appropriate act as Lead Practitioner for ‘Team Around The Family’

Performance management:

- Be responsible for individual performance management and delivery of goals and tasks set - Comply with all workforce management systems, including supervision and appraisal - Actively participate in continuous professional development - Ensure effective recording of service activity, service user information and performance monitoring,

using required data and case management systems and processes. - Contribute to the continuous improvement of the service and interventions delivered

General Duties:

- Maintain an understanding of, and comply with EDP and Together’s protocols and policies

- Practice and uphold EDP’s ethos, mission, vision and values in all aspects of the job role - Work in collaboration with a range of stakeholders and organisations to support effective outcomes

for clients, ensuring effective communication and adherence to agreements. Attend multi agency meetings, deliver presentations and training as required

- Actively participate in the EDP communication processes including, case meetings, working groups, team meetings, individual or group supervision and appraisal

- Report incidents and complaints in accordance with policy and protocols - Support or supervise volunteers, recovery coaches, mentors and trainees placed in the team - Facilitate constructive service user consultation, feedback and involvement in all your work - Travel to other sites for the purposes of service delivery, meetings and training - Hold a current driving licence, have access to and insurance for a roadworthy vehicle - Participate in the duty rota for open access and triage - Work flexibly, to provide early/late working and weekend cover as required. - Undertake such other reasonable duties and responsibilities, across the whole service, and at any

location within reasonable daily travel from your main place of work

Attributes Criteria

1. Experience (through paid or voluntary work)

1.1 Experience of managing, planning and prioritising own workload whilst consistently meeting targets and completing tasks to a high standard.

1.2 Experience of assessment and working with substance misuse service users to assist them to identify their own resources, aspirations and priorities.

1.3 Experience of supporting individuals to develop, implement and review their own Recovery plans.

1.4 Experience of providing a range of evidence-based, psychosocial treatment interventions to substance misusers, or other vulnerable adults, in both 1:1 and group-work settings.

1.5 Experience of, or an understanding of community development, outreach and engagement (desirable)

1.6 Experience of managing medium to high caseloads, including keyworking and signposting.

2. General and Special Knowledge

2.1 An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the harmful effects associated with drug misuse in relation to health, offending, social welfare, housing, employability and personal relationships.

2.2 An in-depth knowledge and understanding of treatments and interventions available to substance users, clinical and non-clinical, including the benefits to individuals.

2.3 An understanding/awareness of current national and local guidelines and protocols on substance misuse, treatment and recovery.

2.4 A knowledge and understanding of policies related to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.

2.5 An understanding of models of recovery, and the role of the community in supporting recovery.

2.6 An understanding of effective caseload management processes and principles.

2.7 Working knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office suite, email use, IT systems, case management systems

2.8 A strong understanding of/commitment to multi-disciplinary working and working in partnership with other organisations

3. Qualifications and Training

3.1 NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care, and/or equivalent professional qualification (e.g. Health Care, Nursing, Social Work, equivalent overseas qualification) or commitment to complete.

3.2 Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse Part 1 (RGCP 1); or commitment to complete.

Our Offer to You - The Benefits of Working at EDP

EDP seeks ways to ensure that we reward and recognise the contribution that our people make to the success of the services we offer. Our current employee reward package includes: Pay - Spot Salary system Each role has a set pay range, consisting of a min, mid and top pay spot. At the time of your offer, account will be taken of any relevant experience you have in determining your starting salary – so if you have sufficient relevant experience you can expect to be offered the mid or even the top spot. Salary levels are reviewed annually with the opportunity for individuals to progress to the next spot based on certain criteria. Holiday As a new starter, you will have 25 days holiday per year, this increases with length of service to a maximum of 30 days per year. You will also benefit from 8 days of paid public or bank holidays in each calendar year. This means your total entitlement starts at 33 days per year, rising to 38 days per year. Employees are able to carry forward up to 5 days holiday into the following year (subject to written approval). Our holiday year commences on 1 April each year. Holiday entitlement is pro rata for part-time hours. Working Hours EDP’s normal full-time working week is a 35 hour week and your hours of work will be stated as part of any job offer paperwork. Hours of work, including start and finish times, will be in line with operational requirements. Details can be discussed at interview including any requirement for weekend working and/or call out. Breaks are unpaid. EDP Pension Plan You will be eligible to join the EDP Pension Plan based on auto enrolment rules and arrangements after completing 3 months service. The scheme is run on a matched contribution basis with a current default/minimum contribution of 4% by employee matched by 4% employer and a maximum employer contribution of 6%. Further details will be available to you on joining. Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) All employees have access on a 24/7 basis to a third party confidential advice and information service, including counselling support. Life Assurance From your first day of employment, you are entitled to life cover at a level of three times your salary. This means that, should you die whilst employed by EDP, your family, or anyone else you nominate, will receive a one-off payment of three times your salary. Sick Pay On successfully completing your six month probationary period, if you are absent from work due to ill health, you will be entitled occupational sick pay in accordance with the Sickness Absence policy.

Flexible Working Subject to operational requirements, EDP can consider requests for flexible working which enable you to achieve an appropriate balance between work and all other aspects of your lives. Flexible working can benefit you by offering possible solutions during life changes, such as the need for family or carer support, the possibility of reducing hours prior to retirement or a temporary arrangement during the recovery from an illness. Other Leave – including Emergency, other Unpaid leave, Moving House Leave To enable you to better balance your work and home life, employees can access a variety of time off arrangements on either a paid or unpaid basis. This includes:

- Unpaid time off for a number of personal reasons, such as family emergencies, urgent domestic problems

- Paid leave for Jury service - Unpaid leave is available for reasons including election as an MP or MEP, overseas voluntary

service, or, exceptionally, if you wish to take time off work as a sabbatical or to take a career break.

- One day of paid leave for moving house.
