WESTERN LOOPThis 16km journey takes riders past the National Museum of Australia, across Scrivener Dam and past the National Zoo & Aquarium and the Government House Lookout. It continues on through the leafy Westbourne Woods near the Royal Canberra Golf Club and then past the Canberra Yacht Club and across Commonwealth Avenue Bridge.
Cycling time: up to 1.5 hours – some hills
HIGHLIGHTS• Explore our history at the National Museum of Australia
• Hire a paddle boat or canoe to explore Lake Burley Griffin
• Have an animal encounter at the National Zoo & Aquarium
• Ride through the tranquil Westbourne Woods
• Watch the sail boats as you enjoy fish and chips at the Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club

• Mocan and Green Grout, NewActon
• Museum Cafe, National Museum of Australia
• Farmers Daughter and Beess & Co Cafe, Yarralumla

• Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club, Yarralumla
CENTRAL LOOPKnown as the ‘bridge to bridge’, this 4.9km loop from Kings Avenue Bridge to Commonwealth Avenue Bridge takes in the Parliamentary Triangle, home to many of the city’s national attractions, and is popular with locals and visitors alike, especially on weekends. You will be riding along the R G Menzies and Australians of the Year walks.
Cycling time: up to 40 minutes – mostly flat
HIGHLIGHTS• Ride along the lake’s edge when the Captain Cook
Memorial Jet is in full spray or the National Carillon is playing
• Wander through Reconciliation Place to see the outdoor sculpture
• Experience the fun of science at Questacon — The National Science and Technology Centre
• Take a peek inside the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House
• Ride through the National Gallery of Australia’s Sculpture Garden

EASTERN LOOPThis 9km route takes riders past the Kingston Foreshore precinct towards Fyshwick and through the Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve, returning back towards the lake’s Central Basin.
Cycling time: up to 1 hour – mostly flat
HIGHLIGHTS• Drop into the Old Bus Depot Markets on a Sunday to
taste foods from all over the world and buy regional art, craft and produce
• View glass blowing demonstrations at the Canberra Glassworks every Wednesday to Sunday
• Ride through Bowen Park in early spring to see the magnificent trees in blossom
• Wander the myriad of Jerrabomberra Wetlands tracks to see wildlife

• Brodburger at the Canberra Glassworks, Kingston Foreshore
• Coffee shops, cafes, restaurants and a chocolatier at Kingston Foreshore

SAFE CYCLING• Cyclists must wear an approved helmet and must use
a bell, horn or similar warning device when necessary
• Bright, reflective clothing should be worn at all times
• Lights must be worn when riding at night
• Children in a child carrier seat or passengers in a trailer towed by a bike must wear an approved helmet
• Cyclists have right of way on green cycling paths on ACT roads
• Cyclists are allowed to ride on footpaths and should keep left where possible
• Clear hand signals when turning or changing lanes are required
