EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SYMPOSIUM

LEARNING OBJECTIVESEFFICIENCY IN THE OPERATING ROOM

Dr. Edward Buchel1) Participants will be able to identify basic barriers to effi-ciently performing microsurgical reconstruction.2) Participants will be able to identify changes in non-opera-tive care that dramatically change the operative care of microsur-gical patients.3) Participants will be exposed to changes in operative tech-nique that reduce the operative time needed for microsurgicalreconstruction cases.

Karen Sagness, RNAt the completion of this lecture, the participant will have a betterunderstanding of efficient organization of the Operating Room forPerforator Free Flap Reconstruction as it relates to:1) Case Cart Management2) Nursing set-up, including both scrub and circulating roles3) Educational process of nursing staff

Dr. Louise Caouette-Laberge1) How to select and prepare 5 year old children for oto-plasty under local anesthesia2) Tips to keep patients happy and calm during the proce-dure3) Advantages and disadvantages of local anesthesia

Dr. Frank Lista1. Understand the importance of OR efficiencies and howthese efficiences benefit the patient's clinical outcome, the surgeon'spractice and the greater healthcare system as a whole.2. Be able to identify the Operating Room facility and sys-tem factors that lead to operative efficiencies.3. Be capable of instituting personal intra-operative modali-ties that will make surgery proceed more efficiently.

PATIENT SAFETY ISSUES AND LIABILITY FOR PLASTICSURGEONS

1) Understand the activities and services of the CMPA2) Understand the significance of medical negligence withthe help of clinical case examples3) Learn the specific liability issues in the practice of Plas-tic Surgery4) Appreciate the importance and value of medical recordsas a method of Risk Management

Karen Sagness, RNLe participant aura acquis une meilleure compréhension del'organisation efficace du bloc opératoire pour la chirurgie du lambeaulibre perforant en rapport à:1) La gestion du chariot de cas;2) L'organisation du personnel infirmier brossé et circulant;3) La formation du personnel infirmier;
