God distinguishes and stipulates positively, the ratio by which we must, if we are obedient to the scriptures, acknowledge our "stewardship" of money. "Tithing" applies to all our income. As stated in Leviticus 27:30, "all the "tithe" of the land is the Lord's." If we withhold it, it will be misused. If we "tithe" for personal needs, we are being dishonest. -1 Corinthians 4:2

Grace and peace unto you! As Christians, we must understand that "tithing" - the setting aside of one "tenth" of our income, does not constitute the only requirement for stewardship. It is only a part of the broader principles of "stewardship." While Christian Stewardship is acknowledging that we are accountable to God for all we are and all that we have, we must also demonstrate its value through prayer, worship, offering, and service. He is the Creator and true owner of all. We are merely caretakers. Using scripture as our guide, it is our Christian duty to embrace "tithing" as a practice that becomes a privilege which results in a blessing from God.

By definition, "Tithing" is God's appointed way for our accounting for our money. The "tithe" is an organized principle upon which our spiritual response to the Law of "Stewardship" may express itself. It is God's appointed and, should be, our accepted acknowledgement. God distinguishes and stipulates positively, the ratio by which we must, if we are obedient to the scriptures, acknowledge our "stewardship" of money. "Tithing" applies to all our income. "Stewardship" applies to all our human possessions.

Additionally, we should cease to think and speak of giving the "tithe," for we can not give that which is not ours. God has never surrendered the "tithe" and never shall. It is His, but, He entrusts it in our hands. It has never been and never shall be ours to give. We have it only in trust. As stated in Leviticus 27:30, "all the "tithe" of the land is the Lord's." If we withhold it, it will be misused. If we "tithe" for personal needs, we are being dishonest. And every responsible person will handle honestly that which belongs to others. But, when it comes to that which is God's, we seem to feel no moral obligation whatsoever. Those inconsistencies cannot be harmonized.

  • Welcome and Greetings

Thank you for worshipping with us at Canaan Baptist Church. The corporate life of this congregation is the true witness of the vitality of our faith. While the high point of our Christian service is to be found in the experience of Sunday worship, what we do from Monday to Saturday, speaks volumes about Canaans commitment and dedication to Christ and our community.

Canaan is a family where all of us are saved sinners hammering out our salvation under the auspices of Gods amazing grace. We are structured, but not so structured as to prevent the powerful work of the Holy Spirit to impact the life of our in-reach and outreach ministries. We are organized, but not so organized to prevent the organism, which is the Church, from bearing full life.

    We Welcome You!

Good News Of Canaan (GNOC): Tell us about your call to the ministry. MJ: I was called to the gospel ministry to preach and serve God shortly after Pastor Bullock came to Wilmington in 1990. Upon prayer and examination, I delivered my trial in October 1990 at the Eighth Street Baptist Church and was ordained by Pastor Bullock in November 1996.

GNOC: Whats your passion for ministry? MJ: My calling and passion for ministry centers on studying, teaching and preaching Gods word. In my early years, I served in the capacity of ministry leader to singles and young adults. In later years, my passion for ministry expanded to aiding the local church service through the use of information technology. GNOC: How is it serving with Pastor Bullock to help him carry out Gods vision for Canaan? MJ: Canaan Baptist Church is very special to my heart as I am one of Canaans core planters and the only one that served in the ministerial capacity. More than twelve years young, Canaan continues to exponentially grow through impacting the human condition as a testament to Christs lordship in all our lives.

Good News Of Canaan (GNOC): Tell us about your call to the ministry. SJ: I was called into the Ministry in Vilseck Germany in 1997. God had to move me across the seas in an unfamiliar place, so I could completely hear HIS voice. Being the youngest of nine siblings and growing up in a home with a GOD Fearing mother made it easy for me to depend on others faith and not my own. However, life experiences quickly bought me back

to my spiritual foundation and the answer to my familys prayers (TO GOD BE THE GLORY). Im a true believer of the POWER OF PRAYER because Im a product of it! Therefore, Im called to minister and tell others, Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things. (Isaiah 12:5a)

GNOC: Whats your passion for ministry? SJ: My passion is spreading the GOOD NEWS of JESUS CHRIST especially to the youth! Its no greater pleasure I have in life than to help with the spiritual development of GODs little ones. Helping them with building their spiritual foundation is truly a blessing to me. Proverbs 22:6 states: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Its my desire and passion that every child that I come in contact with knows that they are FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made. So they will know who they are and not who the world would have them to be.

GNOC: How is it serving with Pastor Bullock to help him carry out Gods vision ?

SJ: OH my.. How can I put this in words? Pastor Bullock and First Lady Debbie have truly been a blessing to me. God has blessed Pastor Bullock with a vision that will impact many of lives and Im ecstatic to be a servant in the LORDs vision. Assisting in the vision of the LORDs means that Im living out my purpose. I believe GOD will direct our paths and connect us spiritually together with others to accomplish HIS plans here on earth. So, simply Im not just assisting the Bullocks with the vision but the Bullocks are supporting me with living out my purpose in life.

  • Tips for Preventing Heat-Related Illness Drink more fluids, regardless of your activ-

ity level. Dont wait until youre thirsty to

drink. Warning: If your doctor generally

limits the amount of fluid you drink or has

you on water pills, ask him how much you should drink while

    the weather is hot.

Dont drink liquids that contain alcohol or large amounts of

sugarthese actually cause you to lose more body fluid. Also,

avoid very cold drinks, because they can cause stomach cramps.

Stay indoors and, if at all possible, stay in an air-conditioned

place. If your home does not have air conditioning, go to the

shopping mall or public libraryeven a few hours spent in air

conditioning can help your body stay cooler when you go back

into the heat. Call your local health department to see if there

are any heat-relief shelters in your area.

Electric fans may provide comfort, but when the temperature is

in the high 90s, fans will not prevent heat-related illness. Taking

a cool shower or bath, or moving to an air-conditioned place is a

much better way to cool off.

    Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

NEVER leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle.

Although any one at any time can suffer from heat-related ill-

ness, some people are at greater risk than others. Check regularly

    on:

    Infants and young children

    People aged 65 or older

People who have a mental illness

Those who are physically ill, especially with heart disease

    or high blood pressure

Visit adults at risk at least twice a day and closely watch them for

signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Infants and young chil-

dren, of course, need much more frequent watching.

Limit your outdoor activity to morning and evening hours.

Cut down on exercise. If you must exercise, drink two to four

glasses of cool, nonalcoholic fluids each hour. A sports beverage

can replace the salt and minerals you lose in sweat.

Why Tithe? - 33 reasons why...

    1. Because the Bible teaches it. 2. Because Jesus commands it. 3. Because Abraham, Jacob, and other good men did it. 4. Because the New Testament Christian did more than

"tithe," I should not do less. 5. Because it saves my self-respect. 6. Because it removes uncertainty from my giving. 7. Because it is business like. 8. Because it is simple and easy to calculate. 9. Because it sets a good example. 10. Because no less would express my appreciation for

my Church and Pastor. 11. Because if practiced by half of our people it would

enable our Church to meet all of its obligations. 12. Because if all our people would do it we could

enlarge our Missionary work. 13. Because it provides for our Church expenses. 14. Because it dignifies the finances of our Church. 15. Because it would do away with questionable money

raising schemes. 16. Because it would enable us to give more time to

deeply spiritual work in our Church. 17. Because it would enable our Pastor to do his work

without being constantly tormented about money matters.

    18. Because it takes the pain out of giving. 19. Because it increases one's spiritually. 20. Because it keeps God in my thought. 21. Because it makes me a partner with God. 22. Because it makes my business a sacred thing. 23. Because it keeps religion first in my plans. 24. Because it makes me more careful with the other

nine tenths of my income. 25. Because I have tried it many years and it has been a

great blessing and joy. 26. Because it increases Church and prayer meeting

attendance. 27. Because all "tithers" I know are happy people. 28. Because it makes handling Church finances a

pleasure instead of a pain. 29. Because it promotes good business methods. 30. Because it helps me get out of debt when I thought I

was bankrupt. 31. Because it saves me from covetousness. 32. Because it is the only plan that God has approved

and promised to bless. 33. Because I love the Lord.
