Nursery and Junior SchoolLocated on the main school campus withdedicated junior school buildings includingnursery and outdoor play areas.

Approximately 200 girls with 2 – 3 classesper year group.

NurseryPre-school education for 2 – 5 year-old

girls and boys and wrap-around childcare.

Fully qualified staff encourage learningthrough play.

Primary 1 (P1) 5 – 6 yearsGirls are our only focus for learning andteaching; we can make girls our priority.Primary 2 (P2) 6 – 7 yearsPrimary 3 (P3) 7 – 8 yearsPrimary 4 (P4) 8 – 9 yearsSmall classes with individual class teachersenhanced by specialist teaching in Music,Physical Education, Art, and ModernLanguages. This is all-round education witha particular specialism in Outdoor Learning.There is an extensive range of extra-curricularactivities and clubs with capacity for all.

Primary 5 (P5) 9 – 10 yearsIn the last year of the Junior School, there isincreased focus on individual learning andresponsibility with leadership roles.

Located at Lansdowne adjacent to the mainschool campus.

Approximately 175 girls with 3 to 4 classesper year group.

Primary 6 (P6) 10 – 11 yearsThe transition year moving from Junior Schoolto Lower School. P6 is the final year of primaryeducation and the start of three years inLower School. The class teacher is supportedby specialist teaching in Languages, Music,Art and Physical Education.

Remove (P7) 11 – 12 yearsOur first year of secondary education andbroad, general education starts a year earlierthan most other schools in Scotland, withspecialist secondary teachers for everysubject. Sciences are taught as three separatesubjects in dedicated Lower Schoollaboratories. The girls are introduced toProduct Design and Food Studies.

Lower 4 (S1) 12 – 13 yearsIn this second year of secondary education,the girls begin Latin and have exposure tothree Modern Languages, including Chinese,in addition to their main secondary language,French or Spanish.

Located on the main school campus.

Approximately 450 girls with 4 or 5 classesper year group.

Upper 4 (S2) 13 – 14 yearsFor this last year of broad, general education,girls select two (or three) languages to studyduring Upper 4. They later choose nine orten GCSE subjects for study over the nexttwo years of Fifth Form.

Lower 5 (S3) 14 – 15 yearsGirls pursue GCSE courses in nine or tensubjects; the courses are examined andcertificated at the end of Upper 5.

Upper 5 (S4) 15 – 16 yearsGirls pursue GCSE courses in nine or tensubjects; the courses are examined andcertificated at the end of Upper 5.

Lower 6 (S5) 16 – 17 yearsMost girls take five subjects further, usuallyat Higher level. Girls select from a wide andflexible choice of subjects which cater forindividual needs. The Scottish Higher is auniversity matriculation qualification andremains the gold standard for entry toScottish universities. Increasingly, Englishuniversities are making unconditional offersto Scottish applicants with five (very good)Highers.

Upper 6 (S6) 17 – 18 yearsA wide range of courses is available with theability to design bespoke courses to suitspecific needs and aspirations. Many girlstake at least three Advanced Higherscourses, or a combination of qualifications.Girls usually apply for university entry in theautumn term of Upper 6.
