The
Chummy
Effect“Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples when they see the love you have for each other.”
—John 13:35
What is it? Is it a force? Sort of. Is it magical? No.
It is that intangible sense of attraction we feel toward individuals, churches, organizations, companies, and products.
When it seizes us, we experience brand and product loyalty.
We become return customers. We become fans. We become church members. We become friends.
There are Seven
PrinciplesThey affect how we interact, relate, and communicate.
They ultimately determine long-standing success.
PRINCIPLE ONE: The “Effect” begins with
gratitude.
PRINCIPLE ONE: The “Effect” begins with
gratitude.
Simply put:
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
PRINCIPLE TWO: EveryONE matters
PRINCIPLE TWO: EveryONE matters
Simply put:
There are no unimportant people
EveryONE Matters
“I believe in one business principle: When you are nice to everyone, everyone will consider flying with you. If you are mean to one person, you are mean to all.”Herb Kelleher, Founder and owner of Southwest Airlines
PRINCIPLE THREE: EveryTHING matters
PRINCIPLE THREE: EveryTHING matters
Simply put:
Everything you do or say or produce speaks niceness...or doesn’t.
PRINCIPLE FOUR: A little of you goes a long
way.
PRINCIPLE FOUR: A little of you goes a long
way.
Simply put:
Self-disclosure makes us equals. Reciprocated self-disclosure makes us friends.
PRINCIPLE FIVE: Share your successes. Own
your failures.
PRINCIPLE FIVE: Share your successes. Own
your failures.Simply put:
All successes have parents. So do failures, but one must be willing to own mistakes if one wants to own successes.
PRINCIPLE SIX: Who you are trumps what
you say.
PRINCIPLE SIX: Who you are trumps what
you say.
Simply put:
Motives will be imposed on you based on who you are perceived to be.
PRINCIPLE SEVEN: Provide the occasion to take
you home.
PRINCIPLE SEVEN: Provide the occasion to take
you home.
Simply put:
If the Effect is in play, beneficiaries will want to take you with them. You MUST make that possible.
THE SEVEN PRINCIPLES:
1. The “Effect” begins with gratitude.
2. EveryONE matters.
3. EveryTHING matters.
4. A little of you goes a long way.
5. Share your successes. Own your failures.
6. Who you are trumps what you say.
7. Provide the occasion to take you home.
