Zariah Cox, a current ‘Keys on Parade’ piano student, participated in the Florida Federation Music Festival Saturday, February 24, and received the highest rating of “Superior!” She is now qualified to compete at the All State Competition on May 3, 2018 at the University of North Florida, along with elite young pianists from all cross Florida!

Miss Cox’s instructors are EWC music students: Mr. Kervin Ferguson and Mr. Winston Timmons!

CONGRATULATIONS

Edward Waters College Student Support Services Program Debate Team will represent Florida at the 2018 Student Initiative Competition for the Southern Region on March 24 at Atlanta Metropolitan State College. The Student Support Services Debate Scholars eliminated Florida A&M University, Miami Dade and the University of Central Florida on September 21, 2017 at the Florida Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel Student Leadership Conference held at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL. The scholars debated current issues regarding transgender soldiers serving in the military, the removal of confederated monuments, and the taking-the-knee controversy during the national anthem. The SSS Scholars Dominated the competition with preparation, character and outstanding scholarship. Please wish our students well: Ms. Brandi Jean-Baptiste, Mr. Demetrius Smith, and Ms. La’Qusha Bivens as they strive for success.

Edward Waters College and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra are promotional-partners of the upcoming event, “A Night of Symphonic Hip Hop, featuring Wyclef Jean: The Hip Hop Guitarist.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is being erected at EWC. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Henry P.S. at 904-470-8062. We have monthly meetings to help make a difference on our campus and the community. Meetings are held in the James Weldon Johnson (JWJ) Building in room 11. Your involvement is needed. There is a $10.00 registration fee for the year. There are also opportunities for scholarships and historical trips.

The Student Support Services (TRiO) Program has added two Professional Male Academic Specialists to its Staff Mr. Andre Stevens Math Academic Specialist

Mr. Andre Stevens is a 2016 Edward Waters College Math Major. Stevens is responsible for coordinating the math and science peer tutorial activities, provide one-on-one and group assistance and to assist with computer-aided math instruction.

Mr. Ethan Myers English Academic Specialist

Ethan Myers has served as a middle school Reading/Language Arts teacher for the past three years at Somerset Middle School. The South Carolina native earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature in May 2015, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a 3.5 GPA, while also being recognized by Who’s Who Amongst Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Please join us in prayer for Mrs. Jessica Russo, Executive Administrative Assistant in Academic Affairs as she and her family grieves the passing of her mother Ms. Linda Kern on Tuesday, February 27th. The memorial for Ms. Kern will be at a later date. Please keep Ms. Russo and her family in your prayers. Also, please pray for two of our Tiger Football Players during their grieving process in the loss of their parents: Javonte Wade in the passing of his mother and Jared Hagan in the passing of his father over the past two days.
