Let’s Start Her Adventure Today!

Dear Girl Scout Family,

Whether you and your Girl Scout are just beginning to explore all that Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta has to offer, or you’re practically an expert when it comes to the great outdoors, you know about the life-changing, memory-making opportunity that is camp. Girls need a safe place where they can unplug and just be themselves, a space with an incredible view where they can relax and try new experiences. That place is Girl Scout Camp.

Whether it’s day camp or sleepaway camp, each outdoor experience is packed full of Girl Scout tradition and exciting activities, from art and music to aquatics and STEM. There’s something waiting for every girl at camp this summer! When your camper attends one of our award-winning camps, she joins almost 100 years of sisterhood and tens of thousands of Girl Scouts (including many of our staff members) who have found lasting friendships, discovered their strengths, challenged themselves, made lasting memories, and returned home with an all-new love for our starry Georgia skies. Give your girl the gift of camp. You’ll be amazed at what a little time outdoors does to develop her courage, confidence, and character to impact her community, her friendships, and her perspective on the wider world. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to spend my career engaging girls in the experience of camp, watching them grow each year, and become amazing women. We look forward to seeing your girl become one of them, too.

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Clare-Marie HannonSenior Director of Outdoor Programs & Property

Am I Ready for Sleepaway Camp?We share your desire to find the best camp experiences possible, and for this reason, we offer a rich progression of sessions. You can choose from a variety of options—from day camp or day camp with an overnight, to mini-sessions, to traditional week-long and multi-week sleepaway sessions.

Although age plays a big role in determining a camper’s readiness for sleepaway camp, maturity and openness to new experiences are also important. We suggest reviewing and discussing the following list of skills and abilities with your daughter to decide what is best for her. Your daughter is probably ready if she:

• can ask for help when needed.• can follow directions in a group setting.• is excited to make new friends.• has been away from home overnight.• can take a shower and brush her teeth by herself.• can keep track of her personal belongings.• can use camp equipment (i.e. water bottle, sunscreen, etc.).

If you and your camper decide she’s not ready for a full week of sleepaway camp, consider the day camp options at Timber Ridge, the day camp with overnight options at Timber Ridge, or the Brownie and Junior mini-sessions at Meriwether and Misty Mountain.

We know that by sharing your camper with us, you are placing the utmost trust in our ability to take good care of her. That’s a responsibility we take seriously—and it’s why we remain dedicated to helping prepare girls (and families) for an unforgettable summer experience with Girl Scouts.

Why Camp Rocks. Our camps spark confidence & joy. We call it “camp magic.”When a girl leaves home and enters the world of camp, she meets new friends and peers on equal footing. As she sits around the campfire, rides a horse, or tries ziplining, paddleboarding, or canoeing for the first time, something in her begins to change—she gains a sense of pride by facing her fears. She grows as a person by learning new skills and becomes stronger and happier by making new friends. She comes home with a spring in her step and a new light in her eyes. She starts to lead like a G.I.R.L. (Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk Taker, Leader) TM.

Camp is transformative. Our trained and caring staff members support girls ages 5-17 in discovering who they are and who they can become. Our engaging programs and activities are designed with girls’ interests in mind. Girls can grow their passions and take healthy risks in a safe, supportive environment. At Girl Scout Camp, we expect everyone to respect each other and treat them with dignity, honesty, and compassion at all times.

Welcome to Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta Summer Camps!

Our council-run camps are accredited by the American Camp Association, the prestigious national organization that sets high standards for the health and safety of campers and staff, as well as the quality of programs a camp delivers.

Misty MountainEst. 1971Tucked away in the Appalachian Mountains and sitting on its own lake, Misty Mountain’s tree-covered landscape is full of laughter, creativity, and

adventure. Misty Mountain has been a magical getaway for so many of our Girl Scout campers. From climbing the adventure tower to Western horseback riding to watersports with new friends, Misty Mountain is the hub for high adventure, and is open to girls in grades 4-12.

Timber RidgeEst. 1924Located in metro Atlanta, Timber Ridge has been a magical getaway to generations of campers for almost 100 years. From the camp’s pristine lake and swimming pool

to the archery range and extensive challenge course, and the new STEM and Design labs, Timber Ridge is the hub for “camp magic” with a future focus that keeps girls coming back week after week, year after year. Timber Ridge offers day camp and limited sleepaway experiences. The day camp offers a transportation option, before care, after care, and swim lessons.

MeriwetherEst. 2001Nestled in the hills south of Atlanta, Meriwether is our newest camp and is on 270 acres of shady woods, and open fields. Girls learn archery, saddle up with our English equestrian program, and create amazing art in the great

outdoors. Meriwether’s deep traditions keep girls coming back year after year. Meriwether has programs for girls in grades 2-12.

Camp builds confidence! Girls with frequent outdoor experiences are more likely to seek challenges and are better at solving problems—qualities that will help them both academically and personally in the future.

Camp gives her cool new experiences! Seventy-two percent of girls surveyed said that Girl Scouts gave them the chance to build their skills or try new outdoor activities.

Camp fosters social and emotional development. Spending time in nature improves concentration and creative reasoning. Outdoor experiences also help promote healthy social development and increase self-esteem.

Leadership in the Outdoors

Camp offers girls a unique opportunity to grow as leaders. Girls dive into a whole new world of activities at Girl Scout Camp- Working together to steer a canoe, practicing the perfect shot in archery, exploring nature during an afternoon hike, learning to cook over a fire, and cheering on friends as they challenge themselves to try new things. Girls also strengthen their skills and grow their passion for environmental stewardship through our outdoor leadership programming. Every camp session includes the opportunity to earn one or more Girl Scout badges that represent their learning and growth.

When a girl goes to camp…

• She develops leadership skills and practices leadership. • She develops confidence in herself and her abilities.• She forms a positive identity and acts ethically, honestly, and responsibly by showing concern for others.• She expresses a love of nature by showing an interest in the natural world. • She pursues activities that allow her to spend time in the outdoors and progress through our Outdoor Badges.• She takes on new challenges in the outdoors and believes in her ability to learn and succeed in these endeavors. • She knows how to prepare for and stay safe during outdoor activities, as well as learning how to minimize her impact on the environment. • She recognizes the importance of environmental conservation and understands how her behaviors have an impact, enabling her to take actions to help protect the natural world.

Outdoor Progression

Outdoor progression is a core part of the Girl Scout camp experience. The camp setting provides the perfect environment for girls to try new things and develop skills in a safe and supportive environment and continue to level up and challenge themselves. A girl who attends camp multiple years has the opportunity to advance each year in an activity she loves, while continuing to have unique experiences each summer. As they progress, girls earn badges that represent their accomplishments and new skills. Information on specific badges for each session can be found at girlscoutsummer.com

Day camp and other outdoor events are a great introduction to camp and the outdoors for first-time campers. Day camps also provide a unique opportunity for seasoned campers to practice leadership skills as Program Aides.

Sleepaway camp is an enriching outdoor experience for Girl Scouts in grades 2-12. Campers experience independence as they explore the world around them, challenge themselves to try something new, and build self-confidence while making new friends. Campers will also be able to complete steps toward earning their favorite outdoor badges!

Camp Leadership experiences are a unique way teen girls can combine their love for the outdoors with their leadership goals. Middle schoolers can learn foundational leadership skills as Future Leaders In Training (FLITs). High-school-aged Girl Scouts who are experienced Girl Scout campers are invited to become C.I.T. I/II (Counselor-in-Training) at all three camp locations and W.I.T I/II (Wranglers-in-Training) at Camp Misty Mountain and Camp Meriwether.
