A special thank you to all staff who ensured the day was a success. Our Strings students have also risen to the challenge of participating in a very special regional online musical recital, alongside students from other local state schools – another example of ingenuity and flexibility. It was delightful to see each student contribute to their musical presentation. Well done! Unfortunately, our Year 5 (Camp Goodenough – NSW) and Year 6 (Canberra) camps have had to be cancelled due to travel restrictions issued by the Queensland Government. The year level teachers are looking at options for our students to participate in, as a substitute for the camps.

The school is currently developing a plan/protocols forParent-Teacher meetings scheduled for later this term. Thesemeetings are highly valued by both families and staff andcertainly consolidate the partnership between home andschool. Given the government directed social distancingrestrictions, we are investigating a different format for thesemeetings. Information will be sent home next week to advisefamilies of the 2020 process.

The Creative Dance Disco will be held on Wednesday 16September during the school day. This disco is a celebrationof the Dance program and usually occurs in the evening. Theannual disco has been a major fundraiser for our SpecialEducation program. This year the disco will include someoptions for students to purchase items to enjoy on the day. TheSEP team will be sending out additional information closer tothe date.

I want to thank our very generous, and tireless, P&C for theircontinued support for our school. The P&C are committed tosupporting all our students through their contributions to ourprograms, facilities and learning environments. There are manyexamples of their support across our campus. I will provideone example in each newsletter. This week, I must highlightthe new deck outside Prep Purple and Orange. In 2019, theP&C contributed $20,000 to part-fund the building of this deck. This deck has enriched the learning environment for our prepstudents, as well as, allowing them to appreciate our expansivegrounds and fauna and flora. I am keenly waiting for our koalasto arrive in the tree above the deck.

The development of the Camp Hill Master Plan is wellunderway and I am looking forward to our next meeting with thearchitect and planning team, as the vision for the future of ourschool is developed. I am very keen to share this vision with ourcommunity – hopefully by October this year. It has been a longtime coming and will have a massive impact upon the learningspaces at our school.

Thank you for your continued support for our great school –this year has shown us how important community is duringchallenging times, and the Camp Hill community have certainlyrisen to the challenge and provided so much to so many. I amso proud of our school community.

Best wishesDeborah Driver

You Can Do It

PREP – YEAR 2

It is important to have conversations with children about what itmeans to be persistent, as it enables them to consolidate theirgrowing understanding. For example, when you hear your childsaying, “This is boring. I hate this”, think about replying with:“We all have different things to do that are boring. I have learntthat it is best to keep going and get it finished. This is calledpersistence.”

The Prep children listed things with which they are persisting:

There are times when we cannot do something ‘yet’. Thechildren are realising the importance of not giving up when theyare not able to master something straight away. Janelle Monaereinforces this message when she sings “The Power of Yet”.
