Dear Caregivers,

There are many options for girls and deciding what to do with her time can be a big decision! We’re glad that you’re considering Girl Scout Camp for your girl this summer!

Girl Scout camp is an extraordinary experience! The atmosphere is charged with excitement that girls can instantly feel, and that excitement helps any feelings of apprehension they might have melt away. First time campers may feel nervous about this new adventure and wonder “Will I make friends? How will I learn to find my way? Will I get a top bunk?” These feeling are quickly replaced with enthusiasm, independence, a sense of belonging, and hopefully a top bunk! She’ll develop a strong connection with nature and learn to help protect it for others to enjoy. In just a week she’ll make new friends, take on new responsibilities, and she might even overcome her fear of heights on the high ropes course or take a brave beginning step on the low ropes.

The camp experience is as unique as each girl. Some may find passion in musical theatre, others in the animals they encounter, and some just love the great outdoors! We can say with confidence that Girl Scout camp will be impactful and meaningful to every girl. Research shows that girls learn best in an all-girl, girl-led, and girl-friendly environment. We offer that, and more! Girl Scout Camp is a place where girls can bond with caring adults – role models – who will encourage her to take on challenges without fear of failure. She’ll explore her creative side in singing and dancing, while being inspired by the nature surrounding her. She’ll take risks like learning to take aim at a target with an air rifle or bow and arrow, conquering the challenges of paddling the waters in a canoe, or simply swimming in the pool! She’ll do all this while learning about compassion and empathy as she helps encourage other girls who may not be as confident in their abilities yet - it’s all part of growing into her leadership skills like a go-getter!

We are proud that our camps offer a safe space where girls can be themselves, interact with girls (and adults) from different backgrounds, and develop outdoor skills! Girls who attended camp last year overwhelmingly said they had a great experience: 95% of girls said they tried something new for the first time; 98% said they learned teamwork skills; and 95% said they learned practical life skills. We look forward to welcoming back last year’s campers – and are excited to meet new ones! As you flip through the pages of this camp guide, know that there are wonderful experiences waiting for every girl. We can’t wait to start the fun of camp this summer, and we hope your girl will join us!

Yours in Girl Scouting, GSNEO Camp Staff

Natalie ‘Disney’ LaneCamp Ledgewood Director

There’s no place like camp! Natalie became a Girl Scout in first grade and is now a member for life. She started going to Girl Scout camp in

North Carolina and quickly realized it was the place for her. Natalie loved

being outdoors, learning how to care for the environment, build a campfire and sing Girl Scout songs! She completed the CIT program at Camp Ginger Cascades in NC and spent 6 summers working first as a counselor, then Program/Waterfront Director, and finally Assistant Camp Director. Natalie graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management and loves to focus on STEM programming and outdoor education. She believes that Girl Scouts provides an avenue to recreating in the outdoors like no other program, and that doing so teaches girls to be confident, and act with character and courage. Natalie loves to hike, hammock, and reenact scenes and songs from Disney movies. She can't wait to see you at camp!

welcome!to camp

Catie ‘Tink’ HewittCamp Timberlane Director

As a lifetime member and Gold Award recipient, Catie is a proud Girl Scout to the core. She went to camp for the first time with her Girl Scout troop when she

was in the second grade and has been captivated by the outdoor life ever since.

She started her camp career as a Unit Leader at Camp Ledgewood. For several years after that, she worked as a Unit Leader, Program Director, and Assistant Camp Director at Camp Timberlane. Catie also worked as a Community Membership Executive for GSNEO for two years and assisted communities across Lorain, Cuyahoga, Summit, and Medina Counties with their Girl Scout recruitment, retention, troop support, and community partnership initiatives. Even though she really enjoys spending time in a canoe and eating pie iron pizzas made over the fire, Catie’s favorite part of camp is the campfire at the end of the week where all the campers gather to sing songs, make s’mores, act out skits, and talk about all the exciting things they got to do during their week at camp. Nothing is more rewarding than watching a girl grow at camp!

What is the purpose of the Trading Post?

The Trading Post is offered to your camper to enhance her camp experience by providing merchandise to create lasting memories of her time at Girl Scout camp.

When will my camper visit the Trading Post? And, can caregivers visit the Trading Post?

The Trading Posts are open on Sunday and Friday for full week resident camp check-in and check-out to allow caregivers to view and purchase camp merchandise. And, during the full week resident camps, your camper will be offered time with their camp group to visit the Trading Post. In addition to these times, the Trading Post will be made available to campers during family camps, CORE camp, and a few other special summer camp programs, when possible.

What merchandise is available in the Trading Post?

The Trading Post has camp branded youth and adult apparel which is unique to each camp! And, can only be found at camp! In addition to camp apparel the Trading Post has camp related merchandise: fun patches, camp journals, water bottles, cups, stuffies, turtle time games, and other camp related items.

How will my camper pay for purchases?

At camp check-in, caregivers create an account by visiting the Trading Post during the check-in process and completing an envelope to depositing their desired amount with the retail staff. Any leftover money will be sent home with the camper at check-out.

What is normally spent by a camper at the Trading Post?

A camper spends about $15 - $35 per week. But the average amount given to a camper for their Trading Post is $25.

Is Trading Post money required?

No, it is not mandatory. Notably, we do find that the girls love to be able to purchase a keepsake from the Trading Post.

Our camp store, called the Trading Post, is one of the

highlights of camp! Girls look forward to purchasing

keepsake camp items.

Camp t-shirts $15 - $23 (youth and adult sizes)

Camp hoodies $25 - $47 (youth and adult sizes)
