Camp Carmel is the Early InterventionProgram (EIP). This is a program for students that are struggling in Reading and/or Math. The program is designed to bring students up to grade level. EIP classes have 7-9 students.

Page 4: Camp Carmel

Students were selected based on theirperformance on last year’s CRCT test(4th & 5th graders only) or their performance on the school wide universalscreening. Every student in the school was assessed.

Page 5: Camp Carmel

Students come to the Camp Carmel teacher’s classroom during a portion of their Science or Social Studies time. They are with their EIP teacher for approximately 30 minutes each day for Reading and 30 minutes each day for Math. Some students come for both subjects and some just come for one subject.

Page 6: Camp Carmel

Your child will not receive a grade for Science and/or Social Studies. However, they will still be in the classroom for a portion of these classes so they will continue to learn the content without the added stress of tests and grades in this subject.

Page 7: Camp Carmel

We want them to have extra instruction in their area of difficulty. This way they get “double-dipped.” This allows them the best opportunity to catch up.

Page 8: Camp Carmel

We preview and review content covered in their regular classroom. We use lots of hands-on activities, games, and specialized programs to engage your child in the learning process. We keep in close contact with your child’s homeroom teacher.

No, we don’t give grades-just extra help! Camp Carmel is similar to tutoring. Dueto the small class size, we are able to teachyour child where they are and not just where they should be.

Page 10: Camp Carmel

We monitor the students’ progress every three to four weeks. We set goals for each student and we track their progress. When you have a conference with your child’s homeroom teacher, they will tell you more about this.

Page 11: Camp Carmel

Some students will stay in all year and some will come out sooner. We will monitor their progress and we will recommend that they discontinue EIP when we feel they are ready to succeed without the additional help.
