First Serve Cameron will face a ranked op-ponent for the third time this season when Angelo State stops by the Aggie Gym. In the most recent AVCA poll the Rambelles were ranked 11th in the nation.Earlier this season Cameron was swept by Angelo State (21-25, 17-25, 16-25) in San Angelo, Texas.

Nov. 8, 2007, at San Angelo, was the last time CU defeated the Rambelles 3-1 (31-29, 30-24, 25-30, 30-20).

The Aggies were swept by Tar-leton State (23-25, 13-25, 16-25) in Stephenville.

The last time Cameron defeated Tarleton was on 10/18/07 in Stephenville 3-2 (18-30, 25-30, 30-26, 30-27, 16-14). Cameron leads the overall series 23-20.

Last Time OutThe Cameron University volley-ball team went 1-2 this week as they lost to Midwestern State 3-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 2. The Aggies lost the match against Abilene Christian 3-1 and won the match against the University of Texas-Permian Basin 3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Offensively, Kathryn Evans had a good week with two 15-kill matches and one 17-kill match. Shannon Dulaney had a big Sat-urday as she issued out 14 kills against ACU and 19 against UTPB. Rebecca Green had a good game against MSU with 15 kills and

she followed up with 11 versus ACU. Setter Jenna Risoli had three continues to be a double-double machine with three double-doubles this week, which makes five games in a row. She recorded assist numbers of 39, 35, and 34 along with having 15 digs in each of the matches this week. Julisa Ocasio had 22 digs and Mariah Westlake had 20 digs against ACU and Ocasio added 34 digs against UTPB.

The Aggies had a big loss as freshman starter Annelise Car-penter was hurt in the Abilene Christian match. Carpenter has recently been adding up the kills with 39 in her last three games.

Chasing 3,000Jenna Risoli is currently sitting at 2571 career assists in 2+ seasons at Cameron. In the 2012 season, Risoli has 758 assists averaging 9.84 per set. In the remaining 12 matches left she would need to average at least 36 assists to break 3,000 this season.

NationallyPresently, Cameron is 36th in the nation with 17.03 digs. Individu-ally, Jenna Risoli is 50th in the nation in assists per set with 9.84 and Kathryn Evans is 57th in the nation in kills per set at 3.55.

The 2011 season was head coach Douglas Tabbert’s first season at Cameron University. Tabbert took a team picked 11th in the confer-ence preseason polls to a their

first Lone Star Conference Tournament birth in three years as the sixth seed. Tabbert led CU to a 15-15 overall record and 9-11 Lone Star mark. This was a stark improvement over the team’s 9-18 overall record and 4-10 league mark the year before his ar-rival.

Tabbert comes to Cameron after spending the past four years at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he held the position of Assistant Head Coach under 12th-year Head Coach Rick Squiers. Dur-ing his four years at UNK, the Lopers had an overall record of 129-17 and a conference record of 71-4 including four regular season con-ference championships, two conference tournament championships, four NCAA tournament appearances, and final national rankings of No. 19, No. 6, No. 12 and No. 5. The Perry, Kansas native also coached 17 all-con-ference and 12 all-academic conference players, 10 all-region players, and seven all-Americans. Tabbert is also no stranger to the head coach position. Prior to heading to Kearney, Tabbert led the volleyball pro-gram at NAIA South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, S.D., for four seasons. In 2001 and 2002, he was head coach at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., with his first head coaching job coming at NCAA Divi-sion III Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C. Tabbert also has been a graduate assistant volleyball and soft-ball coach at NCAA Division III Bluffton College (Ohio). He holds a B.S. degree in Psychology and Business Administra-tion from Baker University (Kans.) and a Master’s degree in Develop-ment Kinesiology from Bowling Green State U. (Ohio).

Evans Named LSC Offensive Player of the Week Cameron University earns its first individual award of the season as freshman Kathryn Evans was recog-nized by the Lone Star Conference as an Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 2.

Evans, a native of Pearland, Texas, broke her career high in kills twice this past week. The first was at East-ern New Mexico on Sept. 25 where she had 22 kills.

To out-do herself she came back on Saturday Sept. 29 to record a now career high of 24 kills against St. Mary’s (TX). This last week Evans has had a total of 68 kills while averag-ing four kills a set on a .198 hitting percentage in four games for the Aggies.

Head coach Doug Tabbert was pleased with the week his young hit-ter had and how she has improved as the season develops.“She did a good job of taking care of the ball and was pretty consistent.

She took some big swings, minimized her errors, and put a good set of numbers together,” said Tabbert. “She is learning to limit her errors, still makes some unforced ones once in a while, but she is learning when she has a chance to make a big swing and when she needs to hold back a little bit and keep the ball in play. That is a part of her game that has really developed.”

Seeking the PostseasonAfter qualifying for the Lone Star Conference Tournament in the 2011 season, Cameron is seeking another appearance. The last time Cameron reached the LSC Tournament was in 2006-07. From 1997 through 2004 the aggies were a fixture at the tourna-ment appearing eight years in a row.
