Our spring concert will present a variety of styles and texts. We will present three different mini themes. The first set of songs will focus on notable texts. Our performance will conclude with a final set, chosen to be entertaining and will include at least one work featuring classical Broadway songs.

Holidays with OrpheusSunday, December 14, 2014 at 3:00 p.m.

Welcome home! I know that’s a strange thing to say here in the Valley of the Sun where so many of us, winter snowbirds and residents alike, are from somewhere else. (Oftentimes somewhere a whole lot colder!) But wherever you may be from, the music of the holidays always brings you back home. I think the reason it is so beloved is that it reminds us of our better selves: it rubs off the frost from the window of our childhood and reminds us that Love and Tradition are worth believing in. Since our very first concert on Christmas Day in 1929, Orpheus has been welcoming audiences into our home: a place of music-making, friendship, and great joy. As always, you’re invited in! Our Holidays with Orpheus series will feature long-time friend Dr. Sonja Branch on drums and other percussion. You’ll enjoy old favorites like Frosty the Snowman, The Little Drummer Boy, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, and Jingle Bells. As always, we’ll ask you to join in all the fun and sing along with the men of Orpheus in everyone’s favorite Christmas carols. Our heartfelt wishes go out to you and your family during this holiday season. I hope the music we make for you here transports you and warms your heart. We are all family.Welcome home!

Our Better NatureSunday, May 3, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.

This spring, Orpheus celebrates Nature. Living in Arizona, nature is our theme song and the melody of our lives. Just open your eyes and look around you! The glories of nature are everywhere: a shaft of morning light falling across the breakfast table, a cactus with one vivid flower opening among its thorns, a hummingbird painting watercolors in the air, and our very real purple mountain majesties off in the distance. Our spring concerts will take you on a musical journey of the environment that we cherish, along with nature’s gifts that make us smile. You’ll be sure to enjoy our songs of mountains, Gonna Build a Mountain, water, Loch Lomond, and animals, De Animals a-Comin; plus favorites from great composers like Rodgers and Hammerstein Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin, Aaron Copland The Little Horses, and Randal Thompson The Pasture from Frostiana. We hope you’ll love Our Better Nature.

Camelback Bible Church Music Ministry

The Music Ministry at Camelback Bible Church recognizes that music is an extraordinary gift of God, uniquely suited to encourage our worship of him, to build us up as people who love his glory, and to draw in the lost to gaze on his majesty. We praise God for the rich diversity of our Christian musical heritage, from psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs for the congregation, to anthems of praise sung by a choir, and expressions of faith played by instrumentalists. Camelback desires to embrace Christianity’s best musical legacy, which stretches back a thousand years and continues into the present and beyond. The acoustics of Camelback’s sanctuary, renowned throughout the southwestern United States, present a superb setting for singing and hearing these musical praises to God.

The music ministry provides God glorifying music for all of our services, and high quality opportunities for the use of musical gifts within our membership. The music we use praises and thanks God, proclaims truths about God, and teaches and edifies the worshipers in attendance. Taken together with all the items in a service, music helps the congregation praise God and encourage each other, doing so in such a way that all in attendance also are drawn to know God. Camelback has many opportunities for musical participation, and is continually adding more. All ensembles are directed by godly and skilled musicians, many being leaders in the field of church, choral, instrumental, and orchestral music.

If you are interested in participating in this ministry please do not hesitate to be in touch with our Director of Music and Worship, Guy Whatley.
