It's easy to throw stones, in actuality, it's just a sign of our times. It seems with modern technology, younger folks are finding other past times. The older generation age has illnesses catching up with us, Therefore, our membership is dwindling. Most of our present dancers started quite a few years ago and square and round dancing has become a huge factor in our lives. Renzie and I were quite impressed, but not surprised with the great turn out for our Luau and general meeting early in May but disappointed when all of those folks came to eat, socialize, vote and then disappeared. . We are fortunate to have our own hall, a great Caller and Cuer and with the support of the membership we should be able to grow again. Perhaps with another phone and e-mail campaign it can happen. The gen- eral membership voted for a new board of directors. Please support them, remember "Dancing is a circle of friends", let’s try to put past situations in the past and greet everyone as a new friend. As I announced at the General membership meeting, the building is in need of upgrading the Life Safety features. I am a former Fire Marshal and I believe I know the codes and have been trying to convince the present and past Board to act before we have an incident that could cost us and the NEW Board. This is due to a lack of action that would make us all culpable (all members divided equally, that would include Life Members.) Here are a few of the Present Fire Code Violations; The stage curtain has no current flame rating certificate, could be removed The wood paneling is Class C, is not permitted in a public assembly without a fire sprinkler system, The occupant load is not correct, (I suspect this sign came from Slovak Gardens) There is no emrgency evacuation system, (fire alarm) There is no Fire Sprinklers system No emergency evacuation plan posted There are no trained crowd control personnel on duty Our building has not been inspected by the Orange County Fire Department, Bureau of Fire Prevention since 1985 (as noted on the occupancy load sign at the front door. I suspect this sign came from Slovak Gardens.) National Fire Protection Code, as adopted by the State of Florida requires all Public Assembly Occupan- cies exceeding 100 the following assembly occupancies shall be protected throughout by an approved su- pervised automatic sprinkler system in accordance with NFPA 13.3.1.2. My estimated cost to the club for these required Life Safety features is in the neighborhood of $40,000. Jim Moore has volunteered to head this fund raising effort. Perhaps those faithful and loyal members who did come to vote, for their own personal reasons and are unable to dance, might wish to be helpful to the club they belonged to for many years. A monetary donation to be placed in a special fund for the chance our club has foreseen situations arise in the future. If each of those voters make a tax free donation of $500.00 just think how that fund would grow. President’s Message

The past year has been a continuation of ups and downs for our club. Renzie and I were quite impressed, but not surprised with the great turn out for our Luau and general meeting early in May but disappointed when all of those folks came to eat, socialize, vote and then disappeared. .
