LETTER fromthe PRESIDENTSummer is ending...seems like it just got here...and the holidays are right around the corner...uh oh...only 100 shopping days left...which segues nicely into what I’ll be talking about...

I was just watching a show about Black Friday...the insanity, the violence, and the complete ignorance to what the holidays are supposed to be about...giving. And by giving I don’t just mean giving holiday gifts to family and friends...I also mean giving to those less fortunate than ourselves.

And, no...this is not intended to be a guilt trip...even though after 12 years of Catholic school I’m pretty good at them...this is actually a compliment to all of you. All of you have so much to offer in the way of intelligence, kindness, humor and a multitude of other great qualities...passing those along can drastically improve someone’s world.

I know spare time is a precious commodity...between family, friends, work, household needs, etc. it’s incredibly difficult to juggle those time demands successfully. But if there’s some time that can be carved out of a hectic schedule please consider passing along some of your great qualities to someone less fortunate. Because one of the greatest gifts you’ll ever receive is knowing you’ve helped someone who needed you.

The HUMANResources ELEMENT

Here are a few things to look out for as 2014 comes to an end..

For those with Flexible Spending Accounts, as a reminder our plan year ends October 31, 2014. New this year, you can roll-over $500 from your medical account into the next plan year. Anything over that must be used or it will be lost.

Make sure to use your vacation before December 31, 2014. Only 5 days can be rolled over into 2015. You have earned time away, make sure to use it/enjoy it :)

Be on the lookout for informational meetings to discuss the new changes for our medical, dental, and ancillary benefits for the 2014-2015 plan year. These will be in October in both Chicago and Naperville.

PSA: Attention bathroom users, please remember that Call One’s guests, clients, and potential clients all use the restrooms while visiting us. Please make sure to clean up after yourself. A few things to mention:

Wipe down the counter if water was sprayed

Prop the door open (especially in the private bathrooms) for air circulation if necessary

Make sure your paper towels make it into the garbage cans

TJ (from Great West) and Charlene (from Wolf Financial) will be back in the 4th quarter to conduct 401K group and 1-on-1 meetings. Sign-up sheets will be coming soon!

Our billing numbers have been steadily climbing this year as you can see below. The $5 million party was pretty epic even by Call One’s standards. My head may explode thinking about how awesome a $6 million party would be. Working together as a team will help to achieve our short and long term goals. Let’s continue to keep up the good work as the level of success we reach will be entirely up to us. - Rob Gronko

The DEVIL’SEmployee ADVOCATE

The INSIDE WIRE | October 2014 / Vol. 1 - Third Edition

Last newsletter I shared some suggestions on making the most of our summer in the city. But just because the Farmer’s Almanac is threatening another terrible winter, it doesn’t mean we have let the weather dictate half of the year! Below, I give you, X’s Guide to the Cold Months...

TheaterWe are so lucky to live in an area with such a thriving arts scene. The downtown office is only a few short blocks from some of the best theater in the city. This Fall/Winter season’s Broadway in Chicago series brings some of my all-time favorites! For family-appropriate classics, Annie runs Nov 18-30th, and Cinderella Dec 14- Jan 4th. The new Broadway version of the Disney movie Newsies, (starring Christian Bale as an adorable teenager) runs Dec 10- Jan 4. My disappointment in Mr. Bale not actually star in the stage rendition, quickly fades to fun familiarity of the classic songs and amazing dancers! The hilariously inappropriate new classic, The Book of Mormon returns Feb

24 through May 17. Not to be forgotten, the Civic Opera house is also just a few blocks away, as well as our client Steppenwolf Theater located in the Old Town neighborhood. As the holidays draw

near, don’t forget about at the always-amazing rendition of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol at Goodman Theater.

ComedyWinter Blues? Need a good laugh? Hi, Second City! This mecca of hilarity’s alumni include some of the biggest names in comedy including John & Jim Belushi, John Candy, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Tim Meadows, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey… the list goes on and on. Catch a show and meet the new cast of SNL and star of Comedy Central’s next big thing. The Chicago Theater hosts a number of big name comedians this season, including Wanda Sykes, Jim Gaffigan, George Lopez, and Craig Ferguson.

MuseumsWe’re so close to some of the best museums in the country, but how often do we take advantage of these gems? For budget friendly options, Chicago Public Libraries offer free passes (sign up in advance and make a day of it when your turn arises), and many of the museums have free days or evenings. We instantly think of the huge standards like the Shedd, Museum of Science and Industry, Field Museum or Art Institute. But don’t forget about smaller neighborhood options like the Museum of Contemporary Art, National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago History Museum, or Notebaert Nature Museum.

ParksOne of the things I miss most about growing up in farm country is watching the fields change with the seasons. While city folk may see nothing but the monotonous row after row of boring corn and beans, I see beauty in the way the leaves turn from the fresh bright green of spring, to the rich kelly tones of summer, into warm

Page 6: Call One Newsletter - October 2014

The INSIDE WIRE | October 2014 / Vol. 1 - Third Edition

Parks (cont.) golden tones signaling harvest. Don’t let this beauty pass you by! Check out Morton Arboretum, your local forest preserve, or venture a little further to Indiana Dunes, or Turkey Run to reconnect with nature on trail hikes. For a truly special site, head to Starved Rock once the waterfall has frozen solid. Later in the season, when snow and ice get the best of you, warm up at the (FREE!) Garfield Park Conservatory at 300 N. Central Park Ave. The plants in the conservatory remain colorful, and beautiful year round. And there’s a special kids’ room offering fun family activities for little ones, and plants they can finally get their hands on!

EatOhhhh food. This is my very favorite topic to talk about, so I’ll try to be brief here. Chicago is a foodie dream. We can eat nearly anything we want, at any price point, level of quality, and variation we want. For latest Chicago restaurant news, go to Chicago.eater.com. Some of my favorite dining options in the city are BYOB’s. These establishments don’t serve alcohol, but instead allow you to bring your own bottle(s), allowing you to enjoy at a fraction of the cost. Each restaurant has a little different rules, so check on policy intricacies before you buy. Personal favorites include HB (American Bistro) in Lakeview, Yuzu Sushi & Robatta Grill (Sushi) in West Town, Glen’s Diner (Seafood meets Upscale Diner) in Lincoln Square, and Briciola (Italian) in Ukrainian Village.

DrinkThe Chicago craft brew scene is showing no signs of slowing down. New breweries are popping up right and left. A Mendoza family favorite, Lagunitas Brewery, expanded their West Coast production, opening a sister site in Pilsen. The hop-heavy brewer is located in a massive warehouse, offering tours, a brew pub with live music, and delightful tasting options. Don’t forget about longer-standing favorites like Two Brothers in Warrenville, Revolution Brewery on the northwest side, Half Acre in Lincoln Square, or 3 Floyds in Munster, Indiana.

For wine/music enthusiasts check out City Winery in the West Loop. This spot has a little something for everyone. Under the same roof you can make your very own blend of wines, enjoy dinner and toast your fine work (or theirs), and enjoy a concert!

If hard liquor is more your style, check out the rash of local distilleries that have opened recently. Most offer tours and tastings. Check out CH Distillery in the West Loop, Chicago Distilling Company in trendy Logan Square, Koval Distillery in Ravenswood and Evanston’s Few Distillery. Just pace yourself, don’t check them all out at once!

Netflix and my couch are pretty appealing in the winter, but only for so long! Get up, get out, and take advantage of all our great city has to offer! -Christina Mendoza

The INSIDE WIRE | October 2014 / Vol. 1 - Third Edition

From the Office of the CFOA strong finance department is vital and cannot be over emphasized to the health of an organization. The growth of a company depends on it. As many of you who attended our presentation know, the finance department wears many hats.

As a refresher, a few things we handle are: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Revenue Assurance, Taxations, Government Filings, Payroll Tracking, 836’s, Purchasing, Bank Reconciliations, Reporting Revenue, Commissions, Collections, Credit Approvals, Fixed Assets and last but by far not least producing our financial statements.

Financial statements are a snapshot of a business. Without strong accurate financials we would not be able to: make good business decisions, manage our cash, manage expenses, get capital, maintain large customers or have payment terms with our large vendors. This is vital for Call One to be able to continue investing and growing.

Going UpAs our revenue keeps going up (see Revenue Graph below), keep in mind so does our cost of doing business. The good news is there are more opportunities for growth within the company. It is always good to be able to help lower the economies unemployment rate than raise it.

The question is where does our dollar go?

This year we have invested in a large fixed asset called the Softswitch (Chris explained this in our last newsletter). He also mentioned our other initiative to invest in Professional Products and Services. This new area of business, as well as the Softswitch, will help us expand in the market and allow us to have more products and service offerings to our customers. With that said, these investments cost money and as long as we continue to be profitable we can re-invest money into these opportunities which in turn helps us invest in our future.

GIVE &Get SOCIAL

Social Success!Call One’s Social Committee has been working hard all year to bring some fun into the workplace and bring us closer together as a Company.

We started the year off by getting everyone up and out of their seats as we competed in the Office Olympics. We battled each other to see who could shoot the most staples into a cup. We raced around the hallways in office chairs pushed by blindfolded team members. Various other wacky office competitions coincided with the Winter Olympics and everyone had a blast. The winners even received “medals”. Thanks to all that participated!

We celebrated Valentine’s Day with Candy Grams. Candy and Notes were given to our co-workers while raising money for the Give Back/Chicago Cha Cha. Way to spread the love!

If you wore green for St. Patrick’s Day you were rewarded with special treats. Ah, the luck of the Irish!

The Social Committee also sponsored a bowling night. Pizza, drinks, bowling, and those gorgeous bowling shoes – what more could you ask for?

Once again, we were happy to host a luncheon for the Fourth of July. It was a great reminder of our freedom and how we’re privileged to work for such a giving company.

The annual Family Picnic took place August 9th. This year we went for a more traditional style picnic which proved to be a huge success! The food was ridiculously delicious. The kids wore themselves out in

the giant bounce house. Danny volunteered his DJ skills for added e n t e r t a i n m e n t . Money (as well as our competitive natures) were raised in a nail-biting bags tournament for the Give Back/Chicago Cha Cha. And then there was the Dunk Tank… Special thanks to Craig, Chris, John

G. and Sebastian for sacrificing their dry clothes all in the name of charity. (Derrick – we’ll get you next time!)

We’ll be giving thanks on Thursday, November 20th. Please join us for our annual Thanksgiving celebration. (Lunch will be provided.)

Last, but not least – the Holiday Party! “Winter Wonderland” will take place on Friday, December 5th at The Renaissance Hotel. This year’s theme is a formal “White” theme. We’ll be sending out more information in the next few weeks so please be on the look-out for more details.

The Social Committee would like to thank everyone at Call One for your participation and enthusiasm. Without you, these events would not be possible! As always, if anyone has any suggestions, comments, or wants to help out, you are more than welcome to join one of our meetings. Now get back to work :)

the BIGGIVE back

The Call One CaddyShack Open took place on July 17 and it was a blast. It’s amazing to me how fun and successful this event has become. My hat goes off to Tōpher and those who put the outing together. Also, a big thanks to everyone who volunteered your time and expertise in cheating. Almost $13,000 was raised for the Chicago Charity Challenge that day. All I can say is WOW!

We have also raised about $4,000 to this point from our employee driven fundraising efforts. I am very proud to say that it is only August and this is the most money we have raised for charity in a given year. We’ve had a lot of fun doing it too! Your ideas are always welcome at our monthly Give Back meetings…first Tuesday of every month in case you forgot.

Speaking of new ideas we are putting together a book of Call One recipes and we want to include yours. Please submit up to three recipes to myself or Kelly. Once we have compiled all the recipes we will then create a Call One Cookbook, which will be available for sale. There will be a tasting of dishes included in the cookbook to coincide with its release. All profits from the Call One Cookbook will go toward the Chicago Cha Cha.

Please check out www.chicagochacha.org and Like the Facebook page.

Thank you for all your support! - Rob Gronko

POSE for CONCERN

If you’re interested in practicing yoga at Call One, email Rob at

[email protected]

You may have noticed that our friendly neighborhood yoga instructor Rich Logan has not been around in quite a few months. I’d like to know if there is interest in bringing him back. This only works if we have people willing to take advantage of the fantastic benefit that Call One has been so gracious to provide us in the past. Are you willing to commit 1 hour per week to improve the health of your body, mind, and soul? Can you relax your mind and allow your body to stretch and strengthen for an all-around healing experience? With 2 classes full of people willing to commit we can make this worth Rich’s time and Call One’s dollar. Try it for the first time, start up again, or continue attending classes each week as you have. Please email me if you are interested in participating in yoga here at Call One.

I have personally found the yoga classes to be very beneficial physically and mentally over the years, and I had never tried it before it was offered by Call One. – Rob Gronko

It helped alleviate some of the chronic shoulder pain I have from a car accident. It also helped build core muscle and strength. – Stephanie Spranger

I have experienced physical and mental benefits through this mind, body practice which combines stretching, exercise, controlled breathing, and relaxation. It has also helped to reduce stress in my life. – Jasna Mujkanovic

I can’t praise the benefits of doing yoga enough! Yoga helps clear my mind at the end of a stressful day. When you’re focusing on staying balanced on one foot, with your arch lifted, your hip up and your thigh down, arms stretched out on either side, parallel to your shoulders, biceps rolling in, and breathing slow, controlled breaths, without scrunching your face—there’s little room left to also think about the annoying thing that happened earlier in the day. I also love that anyone can do yoga. If you have an injury or are unable to do a certain pose, the leader will give you an alternate way of achieving a similar result. It’s a group class, but one that you can personalize to your own level. It has also helped tremendously as I’ve added other activity like jogging and stair climbing, which are hard on my joints. Yoga stretches out the muscles I’ve over-extended in these other activities, reducing the time needed for recovery. It also straightens and adjusts your back and neck. Whether related, or not, I’ve also found that I get fewer migraines when I practice regularly. I sleep heavier on days when I do yoga, and wake up feeling more rested. – Christina Mendoza

The EMPLOYEESPOTLIGHT PageJOHN GLAENZER

Q: What’s your favorite spot for lunch?A: I really enjoy a good cheeseburger and fries from UB Dogs. (strictly vegetarian on the weekends)

Q: What are your hobbies?A: Golf, reading, astronomy, and swearing at the TV when my sports teams are losing. (so, basically, Wolf of Wall Street)

Q: What’s your favorite thing about Call One?A: The way that everyone works together for a common cause. (AKA we’re all superheroes)

Q: Where do you live?A: I have lived in Woodridge, Illinois, since 2004. (livin’ the suburban dream!)

Q: What’s one fact no one at Call One knows about you?A: I refuse to answer on the grounds that I may incriminate myself. Honest answer: I am really bad at returning library books on time. My classmates once cleaned out my desk when I was in fifth grade and returned 27 books to the school library. (I have a $40 fine for overdue Hunger Games books.)

Q: What’s your favorite breakfast cereal?A: I haven’t eaten breakfast cereal since I was old enough to choose my own breakfast. But if I HAD to choose a breakfast cereal, I would go with Wheat Chex. Crunchy! (Sugar can kill ya, you know!)

Q: Any predictions for 2014?A: The Earth probably will not crash into the sun. (“probably” being the operative word)

Q: If you were President of the US, what’s the first thing you would do?A: Outlaw the Republican Party. No, that would be illegal. I would make gun ownership contingent upon first serving a term in the armed forces. And you would have to have yearly psychological assessments to continue to have one. Maybe then people would learn how to use them responsibly. (now I’m just lookin’ to start a conversation in the employee lounge)

To nominate an employee for the Spotlight page, simply send an email to Kristin in HR and tell her at least three reasons why someone (or yourself) is so special and deserving of such an honor.

Please note all responses in parenthesis and italics are ad-libbed by Tōpher & Taylor.
