SUSTAIN (Sustaining Development in Early School Education) is a Comenius project that aims to gather and share good practices from partner countries in a two-year programme to encourage excellent results, innovative products to improve the quality of education and training through local workshops, online classroom implementation, and a face to face International Teacher Training Course. The project targets pre-primary and primary teachers - and their students (Students aged 5- 12). Focus of the Biennial: The focus of this year’s biennial will be “World Citizenship and Democracy” as one of the sub-themes of Sustainable Development Education with the aim of raising people’s awareness about the interrelation between sustainable development and key competencies. Furthermore, it will present a different perspective on environmental problems in order to create active, informed and responsible citizens who are willing and able to take responsibility for themselves and their communities. If we want to maintain our democratic society, we should teach our children active citizenship – which goes beyond teaching them to obey specific country laws. We, therefore, aim to improve their self-confidence to learn how to deal successfully with personal and social challenges; such as bullying and discrimination. This event will be an opportunity for teachers and students by giving them a voice: in school life, in their communities and in society at large. How to enter to the event:

There is a social campaign going on in many countries, where people collect the caps

of plastic water bottles. When they reach a certain amount, they are given a

wheelchair. The aim is to raise awareness about using waste materials within the

framework of recycling. The entry “ticket” for the biennial will be those blue caps.

People will be asked to bring a cap if they want to visit the biennial. In the end, all

caps will be collected and a wheelchair will be given to a person in need.
