Diverse and rapidly evolving, multimedia, virtual reality (VR) and interactive 3D technologies have been applied in many fields, such as training and education, medicine, industrial applications, entertainment, and collaborative virtual environments. Among many research challenges in this exciting field, this special issue will focus on those related to networking issues, managing and processing for multimedia, VR and interactive3D, as well as infrastructures and technologies for bringing rich media content and applications to mobile users. The topics of interest cover the following and related topics: Networked Multimedia/VR Services Architectures and protocols Performance evaluation and QoS Enabling Technologies for Mobile Multimedia/VR/AR Mobile multimedia content Mobile multimedia communications Emerging trends, standards, applications, services, and field trials Multimedia/VR Signal Processing Media analysis, integration and synchronization Virtual reality and 3D imaging Joint audio/visual processing Speech, audio, image and video coding Multimedia/VR Content Management Multimedia content analysis, indexing, retrieval Multimedia content modelling and description Authors are invited to submit complete high-quality original contributions not published or submitted for publication elsewhere, in print or in electronic media. JCOMSS publishes high-quality, internationally peer-reviewed papers, that advance the state-of-art and applications in communications software engineering and communications systems particularly including new techniques, reports on experiments with analysis of performances, and prototypes.
