CALL FORENTRIES
MESSAGE FROM MAYOR TOM TATE
The starting point is imagination: the desire to dream what might be and then determine how it might best be delivered.
As this city commences its return to economic strength after the COVID-19 disruption, construction will be in the spotlight as it generates nearly 1-in-5 local jobs and contributes around $5.5 billion of economic activity each year.
These awards aim to create better local understanding of the inherent value of our built environment and to further unite industry professionals across all associated sectors to maintain Gold Coast’s global reputation as one of the best places on Earth to live, work, study, play and raise a family. I love it!
TOM TATEMAYOR
Those of us who are privileged to live on the Gold Coast are justifiably proud of our good fortune. The city has a climate that’s brilliant and an abundance of natural beauty that takes your breath away.
These are key factors in why 13.6 million visitors drop in each year with 1.1 million of them coming from overseas. But there is remarkable beauty and brilliance in our built environment, too.
Just over two decades ago, the Gold Coast Urban Design Awards were initiated to encourage the design, planning and construction sectors to ensure our buildings and public spaces are a fitting match for our natural landscape.
The many wonderful additions to our built form over the past twenty years are proof that human creativity can provide a worthy match for Nature’s magic.
Quality urban design delivers measurable and very positive impacts to our cultural, social, economic and even environmental wellbeing.
Gold Coast’s city slogan is: Inspired by lifestyle. Driven by opportunity. This is a great summary of the values that underpin our city’s remarkable growth and continue to shape our future.
