VERNON HILLS, Ill. —Wes Malott of Argyle, Texas, and Michelle Feldman of Au-burn, N.Y., each captured titles at the CLR Carmen Salvino Scorpion Championship at Brunswick Zone Hawthorn on Sunday.

In a tight championship match, Malott watched as Ken Simard of Greenville, S.C., left a 10 pin on his second shot in the 10th frame, to give Malott the victory, 216-211. Malott could have locked out Simard, but also left a 10 pin on his second shot in the 10th to open the door for Simard.

“It’s not the way you want to win, but I have four titles now and none have come from striking out ... I was either sit-ting on the bench or the game was over in the eighth frame,” said Malott, who won the Dis-cover Card Windy City Clas-sic in Vernon Hills during the 2006-07 season. “I just have to keep plugging away and be-ing patient. My goal is to keep winning a title each year, may-be multiple titles. Hopefully this is just the beginning.”

Sunday marked Malott’s third television appearance in six weeks and his fourth career victory. He now has won one title in each of his four seasons on Tour.

In the day’s second match, Simard nearly rolled his third perfect game of the week, but left an 8 pin after 10 consecu-tive strikes and finished with a 289-199 win over Brad An-gelo of Lockport, N.Y. Angelo advanced to meet Simard with a 225-212 win against Jason Couch of Clermont, Fla., in

the opening match. In the PBA Women’s

Series event, sponsored by USBC, Feldman defeated Missy Bellinder of Fullerton, Calif., 200-147 in the cham-pionship match. It was Feld-man’s third consecutive TV finals appearance and second consecutive title.

“I have no idea how I’m doing this,” Feldman said. “I just feel fortunate that I’m bowling well. Hopefully I can keep this up and do it again next week.”

Both Feldman and Bell-inder qualified for the Women’s Series Showdown, in which the winners (and runners-up if players win multiple titles) will participate in a season-ending sponsored by USBC and broadcast on ESPN.

The CLR Carmen Salvino Scorpion Championship was the third event in the PBA’s six event “Versatility Swing,” in which players can earn separate points based on their performance in each of the six events. These events include the five events on the animal patterns (Viper, Chameleon, Scorpion, Cheetah and Shark) as well as the Earl Anthony pattern that will be used in Medford, Ore.

The CLR Carmen Salvino Scorpion Championship also marks the only time all season the Scorpion pattern will be used as the sole pattern for an event.

The PBA will travel next to Cheektowaga, N.Y. for the Cheetah Championship with the finals airing live on ESPN on Sunday, Dec. 7.

Duke, Ballard & Handegard To Be Inducted Into PBA Hall of FameSEATTLE—Norm Duke,

Del Ballard Jr. and John Han-degard will join bowling’s elite as each player will be inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame during the PBA 50th Anniversary Gala at Red Rock Resort and Casino in Las Ve-gas, Nev. on January 24, 2009. The induction marks the first time since 2000 that the Lum-ber Liquidators PBA Tour will add new inductees into the Performance Category of the PBA Hall of Fame.

Norm Duke of Clermont, Fla. currently owns 30 career PBA Tour titles, including six career Majors, recently be-coming the first player in PBA history to win three consecu-tive Majors as he captured the PBA World Championships in Wichita, Kan. earlier this sea-son.

Duke started his career on the right path becoming the youngest player in PBA his-tory to win a PBA Tour title at the young age of 18, when he captured the 1983 Cleveland Open. Duke, who is a two-time PBA Player of the Year (1994, 2000), also has been in the top 20 of both earnings and average every year since 1991, winning the George Young High Average Award four times (1991, 1994, ‘2005-06, ‘2006-07). Duke is currently sixth on the all-time TV ap-pearances list with 100 singles appearances and ranks fourth on the all-time career money leaders list.

Reno To Host 2011 USBC Open Championships

ARLINGTON, Texas - The United States Bowling Con-gress has reached an agree-ment to bring the 2011 USBC Open Championships to the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev.

The 2011 Open Champion-ships was originally scheduled to be held in Osceola County, Fla., at a new 100-lane bowl-ing facility in the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex on land made available by Walt Disney World. The current credit market delayed funding for a key third party involved with the construction project, jeopardizing the timeline for completion.

With the Open Champion-ships now set to be held at the National Bowling Stadium in 2010 and 2011, USBC and the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority are teaming up to provide unprecedented exciting incentives for bowlers who attend both tournaments. At the 2011 Open Champion-ships:

* Every day, one bowler will win a high performance bowling ball.

* Every five weeks, one team captain will win a new car or truck.

* Team captains bringing four or more teams will re-ceive a VIP stay complete with limo service and luxury hotel accommodations.

To be eligible for the incen-tive program, participation in both the 2010 and 2011 Open Championships is required.

“This agreement ensures the Open Championships has a first rate venue for 2011 and our partners in Reno stepped up to make it happen,” said USBC Vice President of Tournaments and Events Jack Mordini. “The numbers show that the bowlers enjoy going to Reno and our relationship has been a great one over the years. With these new incen-tives, USBC bowlers will have a better chance at winning big in Reno than ever before.”

The RSCVA, along with partner hotels, plan to develop additional unique benefit pack-ages for USBC bowlers in the months ahead.

USBC Seeks To Protect Interests of New York Members

ARLINGTON, TX—Attorneys representing the United States Bowling Congress appeared in court last week with the goal of protecting the interest of more than 85,000 USBC members in the state of New York.

Earlier this year, an audit discovered $274,000 was embez-zled from the New York State USBC Bowling Association. Ste-phen Donahue of Weedsport, N.Y., the former NYSBA manager, is charged by New York authorities with felony grand larceny in connection with this case.

The audit revealed members of the NYSBA board of direc-tors consistently failed to follow procedures designed to protect member interests and safeguard funds. In October, USBC re-voked the charter of the NYSBA after this breach of fiduciary duty was discovered.

“USBC has a responsibility to step in and protect bowlers when board members of a state association fail to safeguard the funds entrusted to them,” said USBC Chief Operating Officer Kevin Dornberger. “USBC remains confident the decision to revoke the NYSBA charter is correct both morally and legally. USBC is deeply concerned about the failures of leadership on the NYSBA board that enabled the embezzlement.”

NYSBA has filed suit against USBC in an attempt to have its charter reinstated. A state judge has granted a temporary restrain-ing order in the case until the next scheduled hearing on Jan. 12, 2009. At this time, the NYSBA charter remains revoked.

“USBC has and continues to take action in the best interest of members,” Dornberger said. “The lawsuit is premature and without legal merit. We intend to vigorously defend our position and the best interest of bowlers in New York.”

USBC will provide services directly to NYSBA members until this matter is resolved.

CERRITOS—The Vegas league returned to Cerritos Lanes Monday for the third of five bowling dates and Jackie, at the control desk, had every-thing ready for us. Incidental-ly, Jackie is the mother of one of our favorite super subs, Teri Hefner.

Speaking of super subs, Kelly Trujillo had the day off from work and was on deck Monday to score league lead-ing 240-567, followed by Ja-mie Vallier 540, Roberta Mc-Naught 532, Gladyce Perrin 527, Betty Phillips 200-513, Doris Lewis 505, Dottie Lawn 498 and Virgina Gray 495.

Joan Roper brought Christ-mas shopping to the league Monday with beautiful hand made slippers, scarfs and bracelets. She will have them available through the next couple of weeks for those in-terested.

Also, remember, next four weeks, December 8-15-22-29 will be bowled at Linbrook Bowl at 9:30 a.m.. The Christ-mas party and optional gift exchange is slated December 22 with Charlie ‘Santa Claus’ Williams exchanging strike tickets for those participating.

Roberta McNaught will chair the pot luck committee, supervised by Alberta Stoute, and we hope the event continues featuring a great menu. LAS VEGAS—On the week-end of January 10-11, the WCST Ebonite Singles Tournament opens up the new 2009 season at Silver Nugget Lanes in N. Las Vegas, NV. On Saturday, January 10, this two squad tournament will be broken down to the two divisions of the WCST age groups. 45 to 59 for the Men, & 40 to 49 for the Ladies in the Senior Division, and 60 & up for the Men, and for the Ladies 50 & up, in the Super Senior Division, Squad Times as follows: “A” Squad, all Super Seniors, a limit of 48 only, to start at 8:30AM, they will bowl 10 straight games.

Then the lanes to be stripped and re-oiled for the “B” Squad, all Seniors, also a limit of 48 bowl-ers, to start at 1:40PM. They will bowl 10 games straight games straight. The reduced price for lineage will add money to the prize fund for both divisions.

Finals on Sunday, January 11, 2009, for both divisions will start at 8:30AM. Entry Fees for this tournament is $170.00 for current WCST Members, $15.00 to be added if you are bowling as a guest.

MALUCCI HITS 7 STRAIGHT 700s, TEAM HITS 2733 AT RED ROCK LANESLAS VEGAS—Certainly I did not expect Carl Malucci to report back to me that soon with his

Team Nation foursome hit another scratch 2700 series but he did. A couple weeks after Team Na-tion hit a deaf mixed record 2745 series, Malucci informed me that his team did better collectively as in team work hitting 2733.

In that 2733 series , the team work resulted in Melchora Lee rolling 629, Joey Harris 668, Bar-rett Lee 666 and Carl himself a 770.

The team games were 897-897-939, the last game was short of the record 948. Malucci admitted that in his 770 (255-259-256), twice he had front 8 strikes stopped by solid 7 pin which he missed both times. He also had a split in his other game. So this fate kept the team score from getting higher.

Lets say Team Nation has a great anchor in Carl Malucci and as he goes they will go with him. I do not have the Red Rock Lanes’ Sunday Mixers League sheet. It is a handicap league and I wonder if the Team Nation’s 948 and 2745 are the top scratch scores in this league. Also is Malucci’s 811 the top scratch series?

Let us focus on Malucci’s 770 series. That is his 7th consecutive 700 series in this Sunday Mix-ers League. Coming off a run of 751-753-756-783-811-736 or you may say 8 out of 9 weeks with his 780-685 before that. I do not know of any deaf bowler with such consecutive scores. Some had runs of lower 700’s but not with 735 or better. For the 9 weeks Carl averaged 758 per week or 252.7 per game.

That is a lot of strikes and he is aiming for 10 straight weeks of 700s.. I am not pushing Malucci to make records and to report to me if any higher scores may have achieved. Granted that Red Rock Lanes is a new center just opened about a year or so ago and you may say that the lanes were easy to achieve high scores. Wait till PBA Tour hit there and we will see.

FISSER HIT 935 IN TAT 610 CLASSIC LEAGUE AT AMF CARTER FULLERTON—It was a surprise that I got an email from Mark Fisser.Mark said he finally joined a 20 trios teams league, TAT 610 Classic scratch league at AMF

Carter Bowl with Daniel Vasquez and a hearing man, Bob Herman. It is for first time since Men’s Mercantile scratch league that shut down Brunswick Orange Bowl 4 years ago this first deaf for-mer (1986) ABC Star of Tomorrow has joined a league. In between that time Fisser just bowled in tournaments.

Mark informed that last Nov. 25 he rolled 258-200-266-213 for 935 in that league’s short oil pattern and next week the league will have long oil (Shark) pattern. He had several 900s before this 935 and is averaging 220. Also that Vasquez had shot a 4 games series of 1006 earlier for the league’s season high series and had been struggled lately as his average is down to 208.

Since his first ABTA title last June, Fisser had bowled in lot of scratch tournaments especially the ones that uses PBA oil patterns. He had bowled on Chameleon and Viper oil patterns and admit-ted that they are not easy at all. He plans to bowl on Friday 28th Scratch 10 Gamer at Brunswick Classic Lanes in Norco that will be using all the PBA 5 oil patterns, Shark, Viper, Scorpio, Chame-leon and Cheetah. It will be a challenge for him.

As a former PBA member in early 1990’s, Mark is considering a return to PBA next summer. He knew he has to learn to bowl on PBA oil patterns before he does. I wish him the best and hope he will report his results back to me. Maybe he should try to enter the PBA Tour Dick Weber Classic at Fountain Bowl as an amateur before he joins.

Your San Gabriel Valley Association is and to end the year off. We are putting on two tournaments and would really like to see you bowlers come and support the cause. We also will be in the Covina Christmas Pa-rade this Saturday December 6 with a float showing how fun bowling is and what a great sport it is. First will be December 7, 2008 at BRC Covina Bowl A Singles No-Tap Tournament helping to Cure DIABETES. There are three divisions Women, Men and Youth each having two average divisions. Everybody is welcome to come support the cause and have fun. We will have a lotto hat, opportunity drawing, other items for sell along with a $50 Gift Certificate for Partylite being raffled off. December 14, 2008 at AMF Bowling Square the Youth Committee will be holding a Youth/Adult Bakers Double Tournament. Youth Directors should have flyers if not give the office a call and we will get some to you. This is a fun tournament just before the holiday. The youth bowler will bowl the odd frame and the adult bowls the even frame for the 1st & 3rd game then the adult does the opposite for the 2nd game. Cost is $25.00 per team, that is $12.50 per bowler. If you need a part-ner let the office know we have board members that are willing to bowl and for you adults out there we have all kinds of youth that would love to bowl. Check in at 1:30 pm and bowl at 2:00 pm.

Creating Success Regardless Of AgeJunior, Adult, Or SeniorThe JuniorIf you’re a junior bowler, you know who you are. USBC regu-

lations allow you to bowl as a junior until you’re 21. However, if you feel you’re good enough, you can jump up and bowl as an adult. I’ve seen some as young as 17 do so.

USBC regulations restrict all prize money for junior bowlers to be paid out only in credit vouchers toward college tuition. No cash allowed.

So since some of these young bowlers actually are good enough to compete successfully in the adult ranks, they obvious-ly feel that for them, it is worth the upward move. It has worked out well for quite a few.

Such bowlers are the exception to the rule, however. So from here on, we’ll stick to some of the secrets of success for you juniors who remain juniors.

Some Critical Techniques In Order Of Importance

The PushawayIn modern bowling, a properly executed pushaway is impor-

tant because the pushaway is what helps lead the swing into a) proper timing and b) optimum leverage.

I’ve noticed that even among better junior bowlers, including even many of you on high school teams, the pushaway is either omitted completely or done incorrectly, thus robbing you of any chance to consistently throw good shots.

So a simple but effective description of the pushaway as fol-lows, should do the trick for you juniors who haven’t yet learned it:

First we’ll describe the pushaway as done with a four step approach.

Holding the ball at approximately waist level, do the pusha-way as follows:

Using both hands, push the ball toward and slightly above your target. Do that simultaneously with your first step. That’s it…your pushaway is now completed and that leads you into your swing, as follows:

On the second step, let the ball swing back, using only your bowling hand.

On the third step, the ball will have reached the top of the backswing.

On the last step, your downswing will have brought the ball down to a point adjacent to your finishing foot.

That’s your release point!

The Five Step Approach Junior BowlerFor you five steppers, be aware that since there are only four

parts to the proper pushaway, you must hold the ball in its start-ing position without moving it at all during your first step. This means you must wait until you take your second step before be-ginning to do the pushaway. That way, it’s the last four steps that become the ones that allow for the correctly timed swing, as described above.

Some Advantages To The Above ProceduresOnce you’ve accomplished the above, it becomes a simple

matter to use just about any release with which you’re familiar. A high revving finger triggered release will now be much more consistent, with improved pin action on pocket hits.

On the other hand, a flat handed straight ball spare shot re-lease should be just as easy, as well as being more accurate.

You should now notice yourself getting closer to achieving those clean games that help create the high scores you’ve been wanting.

Don’t hesitate to read on, by the way. The rest of this article will contain some information that will definitely be of help later on in your bowling life.

The AdultThis will be the shortest of our three age range instructions

this month, mainly because the adult bowler, age from 21 to 50, has been written about the most throughout the years.

Actually true that the vast majority of adult leagues are at-tended by quite a few senior bowlers as well as adults. The reasons for that are simple…the adult leagues allow any adult bowler, regardless of age, to participate. Also, there are very few, if any, actual leagues for seniors only in existence today.

That is not true for tournaments, however. Adults under 50 are not allowed in senior tournaments. Yet if a senior bowler feels able to compete with those under age 50, he or she is usually al-lowed to do so.

However, it is always wise for any such senior to check with the tournament director beforehand, just to be sure.

ProceduresActually, the most important techniques with which adult

bowlers should concern themselves, are exactly the same timing and leverage aspects discussed under the “Pushaway” heading (explained in the Junior section above).

The reason for that is the fact that what is known as the “free armswing”, turns out to be the single most important movement in bowling. And without that free armswing it is virtually impos-sible to avoid “muscling” the ball through the swing…one of the most punishing, score robbing problems that exist in bowling.

That’s where the old saying, “Let the ball swing the arm” comes from.

The Release And The Follow ThroughRegardless of the type of release you may be using, strike

or spare, that “free armswing” rule also applies to the fol-low through. This means that in order to be correct, the follow through portion of your swing should also be completely devoid

of any “muscling” whatsoever…just a free flowing motion to the finish.

Also, we must remember that the bowling arm is attached to the body at the shoulder. Therefore it is the bowling shoulder…not the feet…that must face the chosen target board on the lane.

That also means that your entire approach, release and fol-low through need to be shoulder aligned. Imagine yourself being able to float. Then, when you float through your approach, it is the bowling shoulder itself that stays aligned with your chosen target on the lane. I’ve had students who were able to imagine themselves having an eye in the front of their bowling shoulder, then aiming with that eye.

It always worked.

If You’re Not A Great Senior Bowler Yet, Don’t Wait!Quite often, good senior bowlers came from the ranks of suc-

cessful juniors and/or adults.But not always!Many great scoring seniors were just average during their ear-

lier years, then got serious…and became high scoring bowlers after age 55 or 65…even into their seventies and eighties. That’s the reason for the above headline. It’s simple, really, because it merely means that your learning days are never over, regardless of age.

This is also true of professionals. John Handegaard for ex-ample, never became hugely successful during his years as a PBA Tour player, but really made waves after becoming a senior, winning more tournaments and money on the senior tour than he ever managed as a regular PBA player. Others in this category, such as David Ozio, Tom Baker and John Hricina, continue as successful tournament players to this day, well into their senior years.

True, depending on actual age, many senior bowlers may have strength and health issues to consider. But these are indi-vidual issues, which can often be addressed successfully. I’ve had students who won tournaments while in their 60s and 70s.A few even older.

The Passing Parade Of BowlersMany long time teacher/coaches agree that as they’ve watched

adult bowlers become seniors, these bowlers developed into ei-ther one or the other of two types:

The first, usually referred to as social bowlers, often gradual-ly decline in scoring ability as they age. This is often the result of continuing to bowl as they always have, never learning to change old habits. Soon their waning physical strength forces them to use lighter balls, slow down their ball speed, let their wrists col-lapse during the release, losing their accuracy, power, etc. Many such bowlers put up with their declining scores, using increasing age as a reason...really an excuse, in many cases.

The second type, those bowlers who admit they have more fun when they bowl better, are watchful enough to notice that some others their age are actually able to get better despite wan-ing physical strength. We don’t call these “social” bowlers, but rather “serious” or at least, “sincere” bowlers.

So what’s the big difference between these two types?Well, the sincere ones are often the ones who take lessons.

Why? First, because they realize that as we age from childhood into adulthood, both our physical strength and our mental powers usually increase…and that therefore there’s a good chance that both our physical (hand-eye) coordination and mental powers also increase.

But these people also understand that once many of us get into and past our fifties, our physical coordination and strength often start to decline, in spite of our mental powers either im-proving or at least remaining as before.

The Big “Oh, Wow”!I’ve had a number of such older bowlers come to me for les-

sons saying, “I suddenly realized that a majority of higher level amateurs, as well as professionals, always seem to have coach-es.” If I asked you how many professional athletes in baseball, football, basketball, hockey, etc. you know of in any sport, bowl-ing included, who achieved and maintain their high scoring lev-els without teaching/coaching, you’d have to admit that (as one student said), “There ain’t no such animal!”

Duke said. “In my mind, I look back at all the years that I struggled in my career and it was a learning process. That’s really what I’m getting credit for.”

“This induction is so spe-cial,” Duke added. “About 30 years ago, I was bowling as a teen with Del Ballard Jr., and to be inducted alongside him is really something special. It will be something I will never forget.”

Del Ballard Jr. of Keller, Texas, has 13 career PBA Tour titles to his credit, includ-ing four Majors. With Bal-lard’s career earnings totaling $1,300,357, he became the 11th PBA player to hit the $1 million mark (1994). Ballard won the prestigious U.S. Open two times (1987 and ‘93) and his four career Major victories puts him tied for seventh on the all-time PBA Majors list.

“I’m extremely excited, but out of respect for a couple oth-er guys that I feel also deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, I’m trying to be humble about it,” Ballard said. “It’s been a long road as I’ve been nominated before, and I was disappointed when I didn’t make it in the first time. But I’m glad that I’m going in with Norm.

He and I have a long his-tory together, we both came up together in Texas, went to the same PBA school in Denver, roomed together and have known each other a long time.”

career PBA Senior Tour titles, including one Major. A three-time PBA Senior Player of the Year (1991, ‘95, ‘96), Hande-gard also made PBA history by becoming the oldest PBA Tour champion at age 57, capturing the 1995 Northwest Classic in Kennewick, Wash. He defeat-ed Mark Williams, 278-247, for the title.

As part of the PBA’s 50th anniversary celebration, the PBA created a new Hall of Fame induction process to honor its greatest players, both past and present. The most no-table changes to the process include that a bowler now may also become eligible for selec-tion to the Hall of Fame on the basis of five PBA Tour Titles, if two of those titles were Major championships and 20 years of PBA membership, rather than being retired from the Tour for five years.

The PBA also unveiled a new Senior Tour division to the Hall of Fame to honor those players whose rise to greatness took place after they moved on to the PBA Senior Tour. The criteria for the PBA Senior Hall of Fame are as fol-lows: a minimum of eight PBA Senior Tour titles or a mini-mum of five PBA Senior Tour titles including two Majors, with a minimum of 10 years membership in the PBA.

With these changes, 12 bowlers became eligible for induction. The eligible induct-ees were voted on by a 65 per-son committee comprised of the PBA Hall of Fame Board, current Hall of Fame members and selected media represen-tatives, ultimately selecting three inductees for 2009. A two-thirds vote was required for induction.

LAKEWOOD — Michael Kong stepped up and won the Big Thanksgiving special at Cal Bowl topping 544 entreats and taking home a nice $6,475 to Temple City.

This event had fair and semi-ough scoring conditions each day and the scores didn’t vary more than 9 pins in the three day event making it very fair for out entrants.

This event saw much ac-tion and great payoffs for our members as the Match Game, Match Series and Big Shot pot were hit. There were some nice drawings and such also.

Due to the nice turnout 115 bowlers made the semis from each separate qualifying day and the Re Entry squad. They would bowl three games in hopes of making the top 32 single elim finals.

Leading the semis was Jon-athan Morales at a great +152. He would sit out and bowl for the title. Ironically his father Abe was runner up at +125 and would receive a first round bye entering the roll-off in round two. It took a good +43 to make the top 32 including the seven guaranteed ladies.

The roll- off was on and los-ers of round one got checks of $200 in 18-32nd place. Round two, losers got $230 finishing in 10-18th places. Round three got $250 finishing in 6th thru 9th places.

We saw Vuong Do take out

Mike Villarreal and Tony Tang edged Loretta Lawson, Sam-son Kong got to last weeks champ Kris Ordonez and Jeff Taino downed Kenny Kwan.

Round four had Kong edge Taino 213-195. Do out struck Tony Tang 254-221. So Tony and Jeff were 4th and 5th and $315 with Kong and Do to go at it for the right to bowl Mo-rales for the title.

This game was a big one but Do lost his shot and Kong advanced to the title game with a 233-183 win. Vuong was 3rd with a great showing at CAL.

The title game! Jonathan Morales vs Samson Kong for the big Bucks. Morales led off with two spares and Kong answered with a big three bag-ger to take a lead as Jonathan opened in frame 3 and seemed to have lost the shot that got him to the top. After Kong opened in frame 6 he had his chance with a strike but left a big 6-7 split in frame 7. Af-ter an open in the 9th, the tile went to Kong, as he struck out in a 220/244-145/182 win and a tidy $6,475 pay day. I have known this man for many years and he is a gentleman to the core and most deserving. He has many friends in the ABTA and his brother Michael is one of our finest also. Great Bowling by a a great guy, Con-grats Samson!

almost got the win! He took home $1,500. The Morales’ are a bowling family as Dad Abe, Brother Jim and Sister Jerilyn all bowl in the ABTA and are fine people! Mom Narissa is the bowling fan:-) Vuong Do bowled well in third for $750.

The Match Game was shared by 7 of our fines, Jhoy Sarte, Gina Velarde, Anthony Dancel, Jamescart Alarcio, Glen Mabilangan, Orpah Tol-liver and Tim Klepper. They got $500 each. The pot has a nice carryover of $930. We estimate the Match game at $2,300 at Cerritos.

Match Series was hit at 581 by the Champ Kong and Tri Vo. They shared the $926 and $463 each.

The Hot Shot Pot was hit by pretty Valerie Colian for $100 as she got the needed 9 or better. This is a free bo-nus to our bowlers from the ABTA.Congrats Valerie. The Colians are fine ABTA sup-porters and great people, Dad Pilbert, Mom, Beth, daughter Valerie and son Francis are all ABTA Members and bowlers.

The 3-6-9 was not hit but Greg Go and Mike Villarreal got $50 each for a consolation. The pot goes for $1,000 this week at Cerritos Lanes.

The Optional doubles were topped by Jun Contreras, and Je Je Gabriel, 1421 and $220. Je Je also teamed with Jeff

Taino in 2nd place $200. We paid 19 places and $2,010 in the doubles.

Winning Hi End balls and bags were Baby Javier, John Daily, Steve Domon, Bryan Moore, Roger Romero, and Joel Cruz.

Las Vegas Room Winner was Alex Romero. He has full accommodations at the South Point for our Big One Jan. 15-18. Rooms are due by Dec 27. $8,500 1st possible in this one folks.

Samson Kong hails from Temple City and used a Ram-page (driller Unknown). He is single with a girlfriend Siu Ling. His brother Michael also bowls regular in the ABTA. He thanks Michael, The Lung D Family and the Mou Liu Bowlers for support.

Jonathan Morales is from Torrance and used a Boss drilled by Tony Figueria at Gardena Bowl. He is single. He thanks Dad Abe, Mom, Narissa and sibs Jim and Jeri-lyn for support, and Anthony Dancel for cheering.

Vuong Do is from West-minster and used a Dimen-sion drilled by Ben Mach at Westminster Lanes. He thanks Ben for the great drilling and to girlfriend ABTA Member, Julie for support.

This weekend, Dec. 6-7 we will bowl at Popular Cer-ritos lanes in a Special Event “Big Fight” Special. There are 6 qualifying Squads Saturday 12-1-2:3-4-5:30 & 7PM and board will be frozen.

Sunday10:15AM there is One Big Squad which will take 1 in 4 ½ to the Semis at 12:00 Noon.

BONUS!! Each entry on Saturday gets a pick of the Winner, and ending round of the Pacquio/De La Hoya fight. The winners will bowl a 9 count roll-off for $150 right after the 10:15 AM Squad. 1st is $100, 2nd is $50. This is free to our members. If there is only one winner, it is $150, no roll-off and if a draw, we will draw for the cash.

The following week — 0ne –Day Dec. 13, we visit West Covina Lanes in a long-await-ed return. Dec 20 we have our Annual Christmas Event at Bowling Square (LOTS of gifts and prizes) there.

Ed Palma Wins Thanksgiving Weekend ABT Championship at Westminster Lanes

Our Thanksgiving Weekend Tournament saw 194 bowlers vie for the first place price of $3700. Our first squad was Wednesday night and 47 bowlers participated in the squad that offered guaranteed sidepots. The squads on Thanksgiving evening were smaller, but guaranteed sidepots were paid out at the end of each squad. Friday and Saturday squads were constant and the Sunday morning squads were busy.

After the semi-finals were completed, our top eight included Jeff Juckett, Orpah Toliver, Fred Ringor, J.T. Jackson, Ed Palma, Mike Malinick, Sammy Bacha and Ken Daleiden. The eight finalists drew for lane as-signments and at the conclusion of the first round of matches, Orpha Toliver, Fred Ringor, J.T. Jackson and Ed Palma remained. The final four then bowled head to head to see who would come out on top. At the end, Ed Palma came out on top besting the final four with a score of 291, J.T. shot 230, Orpah shot 216 and Fred shot 213.

Our back-to-back champion, Ed Palma, is a lifetime ABT member and has been bowling for over 16 years. Ed is employed by the U.S. Postal Service. Ed sports a high game of 279 and 765 series. Ed was using a Storm Dimension drilled by Ben Mach for the win this weekend. Ed wanted to thank Ben Mach for drilling his equip-ment all his bowling buddies for their support and encouragement. Ed also wanted to thank Westminster Lanes for hosting the tournament and the ABT Directors and Staff for running an outstanding tournament.

The winners of the Take-2 Sweepers were paid out daily. The winners included, Mikey Villarreal, Zach Weiss, Terry Hlebasko, Adam Randal and Vuong Do.

The Mystery Game Pot game and score were drawn daily. On Wednesday night, game 2 was drawn. The first chance score of 134 (good for $400) was drawn. Our second chance score (good for $200) was 271. The third chance score (good for $100) was 159 and 248 was the fourth chance (good for a free entry). There were no winners. Thursday’s results were game 1, first chance 189, second chance 282, third chance 106 and fourth chance 141. There were no winners. Friday’s results were game 1, first chance 242, second chance 157, third 197 and fourth 108. Stan Por was the winner of the first chance and received a check for $400. Saturday was game three, scores were 300 for first, 227 for second, 159 for third and 246 for the fourth. There were no win-ners. Sunday’s drawing was game one; scores were first chance 202, second 251, third 292 and fourth 216. There were no winners. The Mystery Pot is available to all members (Classic and Masters) and only costs $5.

The winner of the scratch sweeper for the weekend was Mikey Villarreal with a 731 series. Mikey received a check for $190. Low to cash was 674.

The winner of the Senior Sweeper was a tie between Roy Jones and Mike Pawsey with a 755 series. Each received a check for $100. Low to cash in the event was 711.

The ABT staff and membership would like to thank the management and staff at Westminster Lanes for hosting our tournament. Our next scheduled event will be December 6-7 at AMF Valley View. Saturday squads are at 12, 1:30 and 3pm. There will be one special entry squad on Sunday, December 7 and 10AM. The semi-finals/finals will be a beat-the-board event beginning at approximately 11:45am. The entry fee will be $55. First place is guaranteed at a minimum of $500. Full progressive is $600.

The 10-day Internet auction will open on eBay.com on Thurs-day, Dec. 4, at 9 p.m. (Central), ending at 9 p.m. (Central) on Sunday, Dec. 14.

USBC’s Holiday eBay Auction is the Neiman Marcus event of the bowling season, filled with items for the bowler who has everything that can’t be found anywhere else. On the online auc-tion block will be:

* A three-day, expenses-paid trip for two to Kegel Training Center in Lakes Wales, Fla., including round-trip airfare, lodging and personalized instruction by some of the world’s best bowling teachers.

Since the annual Holiday eBay Auction was launched in 2004, more than $100,000 has been raised for the Anthony Scholarship Fund. Named in honor of the late bowling superstar who died in 2001, the fund is administered by USBC’s SMART program. Each year USBC awards five $5,000 scholarships in Anthony’s name to deserving student-athletes based upon aca-demic achievement and civic involvement. Over the past five years, 25 young bowlers have received $125,000 in scholarship assistance, thanks to the Anthony Scholarship program.

2008 CUSBC PRINCE/PRINCESS TOURNAMENT WINNERS

OROVILLE—The California USBC Prince/Princess Tourna-ment for bowlers with a 175 or lower average, was held at Tyme To Bowl Lanes in Oroville on October 17 – 19, 2008. The handi-capped tournament consisted of a six (6) game Singles Event (2 three game blocks), changing lanes each block.

Congratulations to our Prince, L. T. Ingram from Imperial Valley USBC and our Princess, Kerry Billings from the Santa Clara County USBC.

Our Princess, Kerry posted a total score of 1399 to win her division. Kerry and her family moved to California in 1974 and have been bowling since that time. At 9 years of age, Kerry was asked to sub for a friend’s team, which was the beginning of 30 years of bowling so far, while meeting and making many friends along the way. In 2007, Kerry took a break from bowling to have some heart surgery. She’s completely recovered and healthy now. Her plans for the future include increasing the number of tourna-ments she’s bowling in and devoting more spare time to learn and grow more in her favorite sport. Kerry is currently serving on the Santa Clara County USBC Board of Directors.

Our Prince, L.T. Ingram posted a total score of 1400 to win his division. L.T. began bowling at the age of 32 in 1965, in a company league, Richfield Oil Co, (now known as Arco) At the time he retired from Arco in 1985, L.T. was bowling most of his leagues at Cal Bowl in Lakewood. During all his years of bowl-ing, L.T. posted a high game of 289 and several 700 series. His highest average was a 204. For the past several years, L.T. and wife Joyce have been bowling at the Sports Alley on the Naval Air Facility near their home. In June 2008, the new El Centro Brunswick Zone XL opened it doors in the Imperial Valley and L.T. and his wife are now enjoying this beautiful new center, bowling one league a week. L.T. also had some major surgery this past year and is recovering nicely.

A total of 56 Men bowled in the Prince Tournament and 222 Ladies bowled in the Princess Tournament this year. The prize fund was based on the number of entrants in each division, pay-ing a ratio of 1 for each 6 entries.

Ibarra, Low and Glover Win JST Titles at Brunswick Covina Bowl

COVINA—Sunday Nov. 23rd found the JST at Brunswick Covina Bowl, it was JST’s first time at this bowl and the turn out was great. I would like to thank Susann and the staff for all their great help and support, it was fun. I can’t forget our sponsors with out them this would be real difficult, big thank you to Roto Grip Bowling Products, Sports Innovators, Pins & Needles Emb.

Handicap Division Alex Ibarra a young bowler from their youth program came to bowl that Sunday like no one had ever seen him bowl before. You talk about being in the zone well I think Alex found it and would not let it go, he entered the tour-nament with a 78 average but he did not average under 120 the first 5 games. He led the field into match play with 1087, Lauren Langer right after him with 1021 Alex got not only high point for series he also shot high game for additional 5 pts. Match play had no change for Alex he held on to #1, Ashley Dunn jumped into the #2 spot with Ryan Pekins taken over 3rd seed. Ryan went to work in the roll off and rolled a nice 202 to Ashley’s 179, Ryan was then up to meet Alex who kept rolling and stopped Ryan with a 220 to his 181.

Advance Division found Wesley Low determined to make a run for the titles this week and he did so with style. Wesley led the field with a +109 for 5 into match play, giving him the series points, he also shot the high game of 258 for the game points, runner up games came from David Phillips 247, Court-ney Schultz 246, Henry Chang Wo 245, Alex fisher 241, Donald German 237. Wesley held on to the #1 spot by winning 2 of 3 matches, Shaun Morad moved up to #2 winning 3/3, Donald Ger-man dropped to #3 Jordon Davis made a valiant run by winning all 3 but just missed. In the first match Donald rolled a 238 to def Shaun’s 213. It was now the champion match Donald up to meet Wesley, they fought and kept everyone on the edge of their seat to a 245 vs 245 tie. Wesley won the 9th & 10th frame roll off to win his first title in the Advance division.

Open Div. found Jeremy having a field day going 305 over right behind him was Brandon Pekins +110, Deeronn Booker + 104, Charlie Hair +101, the cut was set at Mike Bronstein at +13. Jeremy walked away with high points for series and game 280, 279, 267, Mark Curtis 265, Jerome Jordan 258, Casey Lescano, Deeronn Booker, & Nick Alford all had a 257 game. Jeremy lost the line and only won 1 match but held on to the #1 spot, Deeronn Booker went 2/1 to take #2, Charlie Hair did the same to move to #3, just ahead of Brandon Pekins who also went 2/1, Joey Chuo came in 5th. In the first match Brandon lost to Charlie Hair 200 – 164, Charlie next was up to meet Deeronn and in a close match won with 257 to 250, Charlie was now up to meet Jeremy for the title and Jeremy found the line again rolling 268 to 224.

“We are extremely pleased to have been selected as the host city for the 2011 USBC Open Championships,” said RSCVA President and Chief Executive Officer Ellen Op-penheim. “We are looking forward to opening our doors and providing an unparalleled experience for championship participants.”

USBC remains optimistic that the Osceola County facil-ity will open by 2012, which means the 2013 USBC Wom-en’s Championship would be the first USBC event held there.

“The impact of the credit crisis continues to be felt across the country,” said USBC Chief Operating Of-ficer Kevin Dornberger. “We recognize our members on the East Coast would like to see the Open Championships clos-er to home. The project in the Orlando area may not be ready in 2011, but we are committed to seeing an arena for bowling in this ideal location.”

As the Open Champion-ships continues to grow, fewer cities have large enough ven-ues available to host the event. The Open Championships re-quires 100,000 square feet of convention center floor space for seven consecutive months.

“USBC has talked with nearly every potential host city in the eastern portion of the country,” Mordini said. “City leaders are increasingly cau-tious about booking one event for seven months straight, even one with a proven track record of success like the Open Championships.”

The USBC Open Cham-pionships is the largest par-ticipatory sporting event in the world with nearly 85,000 ath-letes competing during a 140-day stretch from late February through early July. The Open Championships creates an es-timated $100-million impact for the local economy of the host city.
