The geometric significance is that an even function is symmetric
with respect to the y-axis.
If f satisfies f(-x) = -f(x), then f is called an odd function.

The graph of an odd function is symmetric about the origin.
The graph in figure 22 rises from A to B, falls from B to C, and rises again from C to D. The
function f is said to be increasing on the interval [a,b], decreases from [b,c], and increases
again from [c,d].
