Calculating Your Psychology GPA

Your GPA is a measure of how well you are doing in your psychology courses. To calculate your GPA, you should have the following things handy:

- A listing of all courses you have taken along with the grade and the number of credit hours

- A calculator

Here are the steps to calculating you major GPA:1) Highlight all psych courses you have taken2) List these courses below with all relevant information. Fill in the information in

Column A in a minute.

A BPsychology

CourseGrade Grade #

(Ex. 4.0, 3.5)Credit Hours Multiply Column A by

Column B

Total

To determine the information in column A (Grade #); put the following numerical equivalents of the grade in the column:

A=4.0 BA=3.5 B=3.0 CB=2.5C=2.0 DC=1.5 D=1.0 E=0.0

3. Multiply column A by column B(that is the grade numerical equivalents by number of credit hours)

4. Continue with step #3 until you have done all psych classes5. Add all of the numbers in the last column6. Divide the answer you go in #5 by your total number of credit hours in

psychology (that is the total number in column B)7. That is you psych GPA!!!

Page 2: Calculating Your Psychology GPA

Here is an example. Say that I took the following courses—PSY 1000, PSY 1600 and PSY 2500. Here is my table:

A BPsychology Course

Grade Grade # Credit hours Multiply column A by column B

PSY 1000 A 4.0 3 12.0PSY1600 BA 3.5 3 10.5PSY 2500 D 1.0 3 3.0

Total 25.5

My psych GPA would then be 25.5 (total of last column) divided by 9 (total credit hours) which would come out to be: 25.5/9=2.83.
