Calculating Child Support

The complexity of calculating child support requires taking the time that the child spends with each parent and the income of the parents into account. Under the law, both parents are required to support the child. In general, the non-custodial parent pays child support to the custodial parent in order to assist with the costs of raising the child, but this is not always the case. For instance, if the custodial parent’s income is substantially higher and the child spends part of the time with the non-custodial parent, the custodial parent may be required to help financially support the child for the time that he or she is at the other parent’s home. To understand more about the calculation of child support payments, contact an experienced family lawyer or use an online calculator that is specific to your state.
