When a single assessment task has a number of columns associated you may need to create a calculated column so that it can be mapped within the Grade Management System. Calculated columns may be required for assessment with: Subtasks such as quizzes and labs (Refer to Assessment subtasks quick guide/video.) Multiple Parts (eg. Part A & Part B of an exam) Multiple Submission Points (eg On-time and late submission or Resubmission) (Refer to Calculated columns within Mark Centre: for multiple submission points quick guide / video.) Multiple parts of an assessment task When one assessment item consists of multiple parts (eg Course Profile states final exam is marked out of 50 yet the final exam consists of two separate items – a multiple choice out of 25 and short answer out of 25. The two columns in the Mark Centre need to be mapped to one in the Grade Management System.) Steps In the Mark Centre Open required course in the Mark Centre. Choose Create Calculated Column, Total column. (Refer Figure 1.) Figure 1 Create a calculated column within the Mark Centre Enter a column name and a Mark Centre name. Choose “Score” for the “Primary Display”. Choose “Selected Columns and Categories” for “Include in total”. Select the required columns. Hint: Use the control / command button to select multiple columns.

When are calculated columns used?

Steps

In the Mark Centre

Open required course in the Mark Centre.

Choose Create Calculated Column, Total column. (Refer Figure 1.)

Enter a column name and a Mark Centre name.

Choose “Score” for the “Primary Display”.

Choose “Selected Columns and Categories” for “Include in total”.

Select the required columns.

Hint: Use the control / command button to select multiple columns.

Enter column names

Select required columns.

Click the right arrow.

Select Yes.

Select required options.

Choose Selected columns and categories.

Choose Submit

Choose Score.

Choose (right arrow) to move the columns to the “Selected Columns”.

Choose “Yes” for “Include this column in Mark Centre calculations”.

Select required option for “Show this column to students”.

Choose (Submit).

In the Grade Management System

Navigate to the Grade Management Centre and select the required course.

In Step 1, Mapping, select the calculated column from the drop-down list to map against the relevant Course Profile task. (Refer Figure 3.)

Check that the Marks out of match for both the Course Profile task and the Mark Centre column.
