Emergency medical services - EMS (Pre-hospital care) has been and is still a huge challenge in Uganda and Africa at large.According to the study done by Injury control center (ICC) 2006, Kampala Capital city and the surrounding suburbs had a total of thirteen Ambulance vehicles. However, most of these were found to be non-functional, lacking in basic equipment or totally unfit for patient transportation.

As more effort is directed in various aspects of healthcare system in Uganda, not much is being done in the area of patient transportation.

As the country progressively develops, with increasing number of Health care centers/ medical facilities, as well as local and international events and conferences,

there is an urgent need for a dedicated, professional, reliable and efficient EMS system to provide quick, safe and efficient pre-hospital medical care.

As Uganda develops, life style diseases like heart, respiratory and organ failures correspondingly increase. There is no organized public or private EMS system in Uganda.

City Ambulance responds to any medical emergency with a well-equipped ambulance and trained personnel in the shortest time possible in order to save life.

Our ambulances operate 24/7, hence capable of responding to emergencies both day and night.

Emergency medical rescueAll the ambulance vehicles are equipped to the highest standards for rescue services with a scoop stretcher, wheel chair, two oxygen cylinders, patient monitor, infusion pump, suction machine, nebulizer, defibrillator, sundries, splints and self-loading stretchers, while the emergency drugs are kept in the Doctors bag.

Today, Uganda has the second highest rate of road accidents in Africa and the world after Ethiopia. According to the World Health Organization’s Global Status Report on Road Safety 2013, Uganda is named among countries with alarmingly high road accident rates. If such trend of traffic accidents continues to increase, the health losses from traffic injuries may be ranked as the second to HIV/AIDS by 2020. Road Traffic accidents increase as development increases and so do industrial accidents.

All commercial aircrafts can be used for air medical escort; aircrafts are equipped with basic life support equipment and advanced life support. The medical escorting team carries emergency drugs in addition to all necessary equipment.

For example an individual who is medically stable but with the following conditions; cardiopulmonary complications (post myocardial infarction or pneumonia), Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), fractures, mental health (Alzheimers or dementia), Motor Vehicle Crash accident (MVC), post-surgical etc. do require medical escorts.

Medical escorts

Preserve life: the overriding aim of all medical care, including first aid, is to save life and minimize the threat of death.

Prevent the condition from worsening or danger of further injury: this covers both external factors, such as moving a patient away from any cause of harm, and applying first aid techniques to prevent worsening of the condition such as applying pressure to stop bleeding from becoming life threatening.Promote recovery: first aid also involves trying to start the recovery process from the illness or injury, and in some cases might involve completing a treatment, such as in the case of applying a plaster to a small wound.

First Aid training and supplies

First aid training is imparting knowledge and practical skills to an individual or group of people in order to ably assist any person suffering a sudden illness or injury, with the intent to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, and/or promote recovery.
