SUNDAY SCHOOL AND C.T.S. COMMITTEE: We, the Sunday School and C.T.S. Committee would like to encourage everyone to be faithful and dedicated in attendance of Sunday School and C. T.S. We feel that these two departments help to unite the body of the church which is in Christ Jesus. We would like to emphasize that the study of God's word prepares us for the winning of lost souls. In II Timothy 2:15 says "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

STANDING OF THE MINISTRY:

Rev. Done L. Layton Harold Duckett Chester Isbell

1. We recommend that Rev. Lonnie Goodwin, Rev. Percy Stokes, Bro. Voyd Isbell, Bro. Virgil Aycock and Bro. Alonzo Johnsey be given life time membership.

2. Until such a time that Rev. Finis Johnson of Memorial Church appears before the Ordaining Council of this Association, we recommend that we withhold a card of good standing.

3. We recommend a certificate of standing be given to all ministers and deacons as requested by our churches.

Rev. Steve Pryor Rev. Jim Wheeler Bro. James Beasley Bro. Voyd Howard Rev. Larry Morgan

TEMPERANCE COMMITTEE: We, the Temperance Committee submit the following recommendations to the churches of Cahaba River Association: 1. Based on the promise of God's word, Matthew 5:6 and Matthew 6:33, that

God blesses and rewards righteousness, that we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

2. Also, due to the changing of times, the modern and liberal movement in the world and our churches, we recommend that we take a stand and define what a fundamental, conservative doctrine is: a) I Cor. 6:9- That unrighteousness shall not inherit the Kingdom of God. b) I Thess. 5:22- That we abstain from all appearance of evil.

We, the Temperance Committee ask that you accept this report. Sis. Barbara Copeland Sis. Faye Sealy Sis. Ann Deloach

FAMILY DEVOTION: In these troubled and sinful times it is more important than ever to have daily devotions in the home. Deut. 6:7 says, "Thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shall talk of them when thou sittist down in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down and when thou risest up." Christian parents are responsible for "Training up the child in the way he should go.

TREATISE ARTICLES OF FAITH

Chapter I - The Holy Scriptures These are the Old and the New Testaments. They are written by Holy. Men, ~piret

by the Holy Spirit and are God's revealed. w~rd to m3:n. They ar~ a suffiaent and mfall ble rule and guide to salvation and aU cluistian worsh1p and service.

Chapter II - Being and Attributes of God The Scriptures teach that there is only one ~~and li~g God, ~o is spirit, self

existent, eternal immutable, omnipresent, ommscient, omnipotent, mdepend~nt, good, wise, holy, just, and merciful, the Creator, preserver, and Governor of ~he uruverse; !he Redeemer Savior, sanctifier, and judge of men; :md the only proper object o~ worship.

The mode of his existence, however is a subject far above the.understand.ing.of manftnite beings cannot comprehend him. There is nothing i.n the uruverse t_hat can JUStl~ represent him, for there is none like him. He is the fountam of aU perfection and ~app~ness. He is glorified by the whole creation, and worthy to be loved and served by aU mtellJgence.

Chapter lll - Divine Government and Providence

1. God exercises a providential care and sup~rintendence ?ver all Hij; ~eatures, and governs the world in wisdom and mercy, according to. the testimony of. HIS word.all

2 God has endowed man with power of free ch01ce, and governs~ by mo~ .. aws and ~otives; and this power of free choice is the exa.ct measure of. m':" s res-ponSibility·

3 All events are present with God from everlastmg to everlasting, but J:las knowledge of th~m does not in any sense cause them nor does He decree all events wh1ch He knows will occur.

Chapter IV - Creation, Primitive State of Man and His Fall

Section I - Creation 1. OF THE WORLD, God created the worl~, and all things that it contains, for His

own pleasure and glory and the enjoyment of His creatures. . . Hi 2 OF THE ANGELS, The angels were created by God to glonf~ H.UJ:l ~d ?beY s

com~andments. Those who have kept the~ firs~ ~state He employs tn rrumstenng bless-in to the heirs of salvation and in executing His JUdgm«:nts upon the wo~ld .. .

gs3. OF MAN, God created man, consisting ~fa n:tatenal body and a thmking, rational soul. He was made in the image of God. to glorify hts Mateer.

Section II - Primitive Man and His Fall Our fttst parents, in their original state, were upright. They naturally pref~rre~ and til

desired to obey their Creator, and had no preference O! desire to lfansgress His will ~n they were influenc~d and inclined by the tempter to disobey Gods commands. PreVIous to this, the only tendency of their na~re was to do. righteousness. In ~nsequence of. the fttst transgressionJthe state under wh1ch the postenty of Adam came mto tht: world. IS so different from that of Adam that they have not that righteousne~ an~ punty '!hich Adam had before the fall; they are not willing to obey God, bl;lt are mclined to evil. Hence none, by virtue of any natural goodness and mere work of theu own; can b~come the children of God, but they are all dependent ofr salvation upon the re~emptlon effected, through the blood of Christ, and upon being created ~new unto obedience through the operation of the Spirit, both of which are freely provtded for every descendent of Adam.

Chapter V - Of Christ Section I

Jesus Christ , the Son of God, possesses all divine perfections. As He and the Father are one, He in His divine nature , filled all the offices 3:nd performed the works of God to His creatures that have been the subjects of revelations to us. As man, h~ performed all the duties toward God that we are required to perform, re~entance of sm excepted.

His divinity is proved from His titles, His attribute~, and His 'Yorks. 1. HIS TITLES. The Bible ascribes to Christ the tatles of SaVIor? Jehovah , Lord of

Hosts, the First and the Last, God, true God, Great God over all, mighty God, and the everlasting Father. . . . .

2. HIS A TIRIBUTES. He is eternal, unchangable, omrupresent, omrusctent, omru-potent, holy, and is to be worshipped. .

3. ms WORKS. By Christ the world was ~ted. ~e pr~v~. and governs at; He has provided redemption for all men and He will be thett fmal JUdge.

Section II - The Incarnation of Christ . The Word, which in the beginning was with God and wh1ch was God,J>y whom all

thtngs were made condescended to a state of humiliation in being united with human nature and ~mh~ like~~~. p~U.ution and sin excepted. ln this state, as a subject of the aaw, He-"A'U liable to the mfmmt1es of our nature, was tempted as we are, but lived our e>..l.tllp!e, perfect obedience to the divine requirements. As Christ was made of the seed of Da~d accordi!lf to the flesh, He is •the Son of man,· and as the divine existence is the fou~t~n from whtch f!e P!oceeded, and was the only agency by which He was begotten, He u the Son of God, bemg the only begotten of the Father, and the only incarnation of the Divine Being.

Olapter VI - The Atonement and Mediation of Christ

1. The Atonement - As sin cannot be pardoned without a sacrifice, and the blood of beasts could newr wash away sin, Christ gave Himself a sacrifice for the sins of the world and thus made aalva~on known possible for all men. He died for us, suffering in our stead, to ~ak~ kn~wn the nghteousness of God, that He might be just in justifying sinners who ~liev~ m ~ Son. lbrou~ the redemp~on effected by Christ salvation is actually enJOYed m this world, and will be enjoyed m the next bv all who do not in this life refuse obedience to the known req~;~irements of God. The atonement for. our sin was necessary. For present and future obedaence can no more blot out our past sms than past obedience can remove the guilt of present and future sins. If God pardoned the sins of men without satiaf~ction .for the violation of His law it would follow that transgression might go on with ampuruty; government would be agrogated, and the obligation of obedience to God would be in effect, removed.

2. M~diation of Ouist Our Lord not only died for our sins, but He arose for our justif"acatiOn,and ascended up to Heaven, where, as the only Mediator between God and man, He makes intercession for us, until He comes again.

3. We believe that aU children dying in infancy, having not actually transgressed apinst the Law of God, in their own persons are only subject to the fust death which wu brou.lht on by the fall of the man Adam, and not that anyone of them dying in that State shaD suffer punishment on Hell by the guilt of Adam's sin for of such is the Kingdom of God.

Chapter VII- The Holy Spirit

1. The S~ptures ascribe to ~ H?IY Spirit the acts and attributes of an intelligent being. He JWdes, knows, moves, gaves anformation, commands, forbids, sends forth, reproves, and can be sinned against.

2. The attributes of God are ascribed to the Holy Spirit. . 3. The wor~ of ~od are ascribed to the Holy Spirit; creation, inspiration, giving of

life, and a IIJlCtifica tion. 4. The Apostles assert .tha~ ~e H_oly S~irit is Lord and God. From the foreaoins the

conclu~on is that the Hoi)· Spmt, is m reality God, and one with the Father in divine perfection~. It tw also been shown that Jesus Christ is God -one with the Father. Then thae Three: The Father, Son and Holy Spirit, are One God.

The truth of this doctrine is also proved from the fact that the Father The Son and The H~ly Ghost are united in the authority by which believers are bap~d; and in'the ~dons pronounced by the Apostles, which are acts of the highest religious worlhip.

Otapter VIU - The Gospel Call

The call of the Gcnpel is ~xtensive with the atonement to all men both by the Word and strivings of the spirit, so that Salvation is rendered equally possible to aU and if any faD of eternal life, the fault is whoUy his own. ' '

Chapter IX - Repentance

The repentance whic_h the Gospel requires includes a _deep conviction, a penitential sorrow, an open confess~on, a dec1ded hatred and an entire forsaldng all sin. This repentance God has enjoined on aU men, and without it in this life the sinner must perish eternally.

Chapter X- Faith

Savina faith is an assent of th~ mind to the fundamen~ truths of revelation, an acceptance of the Gospel, through the Influence of the Holy Sputt, and a t1rm confidence and ~at in Christ. The fruit of faith is obedience to the Gospel. The power to believe is the sift of God, b~t belicvin¥ is an act of the creature, which is required as a condition of

Cr~on •. and ~thout which the sinner cannot obtain salvation, all men are required to licv.: Jn Chnst, and those who yield obedience to this requirement become the children

ofGod by Faith. 22

Otapter XI - Regeneration

Jd man is a fallen and sinful being, he must be regenerated in order to_o_btain salvation. 'Ibis change is an instantaneous renewal of the heart by the H~ly . Sprnt, whereby the penitent sinner receives new life, becomes a Child of God, ~~ IS di_spose~ to serve him, this is called in scripture being born again - bon~ ?f the spmt, bemg qwckened, paning from death unto life. and a partaking of the diVJne nature.

Chapter Xlf - Justification and ~am:tification

1. Justification. Personal justification implies that the perso~ justified has been. guilty before God, and in consideration of the atonement of Chnst, accepted ~~ fatth, the sinner is pardoned and absolved from the guilt of sin and_ re~tored t? the divme favor. Quist's atonement is the foundation of the sinner's redemption, yet, wathout repentance

and faith it can nf'vcr give him justification and peace with God . . . 2. S~ctification is the beginning of God's Grace by which the. chnstlan man con

stantly grows in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Chapter XIII - Perserverance of the Saints

There are strong grounds to hope that the truly regenerate will perservere_unto the end, and be saved, through the power of ~vine gract? which is pl~dged for then: SUJ:!port, but their futve obedience and fmal salv~tion are nettJ:aer determmed ':lor certain, Since through infirmity and manifold temptations they arc an danger of falling, and they ought therefore to W"cttch and pray le~t they make ship-wreck of their faith and be lost.

Chapter XIV - The Sabbath

. This is one day in seven, which from the cre8:tion of ~he world God has set apart for sacred rest .u1d holy service. Under the former dispensation, the seventh day .of the week as commemorative of the work of creation, was set apart for the Sabb~th. Under. the Gospel, the first day of the week, in commemoration of the R~ss~ recbon of Chnst, _and by authority of Christ and the Apostles, is observed as the Chnsuan Sabbath. On thts_day all men are reqllired to refrain from secular labor and devote themselves to the worship and service of God.

Chapter XV - The Church

A Christian Church is an organized body of believers in Christ, wh~ statedly asse!f1ble to worship God, and who sustain the Ordin~ces of the qo~pel a~cordrng to ~e.ScTip-. tures. Believers in Christ are admitted to this church on ~J~g ev1~ence of fatth m Christ obtaining consent of the body, being baptized, and receiVIng the nght hand of fellow-ship. f h . .

The Church of God, or members of the Body of Christ, is t!'e whole body o c nstJans throughout the whole world, and none but the regenerate are 1ts members.

Otapter XVI - Tithing

Both the Old and New Scriptures teach tithing as God's Financial Plan for the support of His work.

Chapter XVII - The Gospel Ministry

1. Qualification of Ministers. They must possess good, natural and a~quired abilities, deep and ardent piety, be es~y calJed of God to the work, and ordamed by prayer and the laying on of hands. . . .

2. Duties of Ministers. These are to preach the word, ~dm1ms~er. the Ordinances of the Gospel, visit their people, and perform the work of fa~thful mtmsters.

Chapter XVIII - Ordinances of the Gospel

1. Christian Baptism. This is the Immersion of Believers in Water in ~c name of the Father, the Son, and of the Ho!y Spirit, in which ar~ r~presented the Bunal and ~esurrection of Christ the Death of Christ, the death of chnstuns to ~e worl~. the washmg of their soul fro~ the pollution of sin, their rising to newness of hfe, theu engagement to serve God and their resurrection at the last day. . . .

2. Th~ Lord's Supper . This is a commemoration of the death of Chnst for our Sins , in the use of bread which He made the emblem of His broken body, and th_e CUJ? • th~ emblem of His shed blood, and by it the believer ex~resses his love for Chnst, h1s fa~th and hope in Him and pledges to Him perpetual fidelity : . . .

It is the priviledge and duty of all who have spmtual umon With Chrtst to COf!!· memorate His death; and no man has a right to forbid these tokens to the least of His

Disciples.

3. Washi111 the Saints Feet. This is a sacred Ordinance, which teaches humility, and reminds th~ of the necessity of a daily cleansing from all sin. It was instituted by the Lord Jesus Ouist, and caUed an •example' on the night of His betrayal, 1nd in connection with the institution of the Lord's Supper.
