PREFACE

CAgM Who's Who began during the preparation of a chapter of the History dealing with People Who Made CAgM. This chapter was to be people who significantly contributed in one way or other to the pr ogr es s of the Corrunission. The criterion "significantly" was difficult to define; all persons were included who played any role in CAgM, including observers and invited experts at Commission meetings, members of Working Groups, Rapporteurs, members of committees , authors and co-authors of reports and those involved in the implementation of the WMO Agricultural Meteorology Programme as well as staff members of WMO who were responsible for the activities of the Commission.

Names of individuals are listed alphabetically together with their country or organizational affiliation. The various roles of individuals are shown in chronological order. Working Groups and Rapporteurs are identified by Resolution Number (see Annex 3). The works of authors and co-authors are identified wherever possible by the publication number and the lists of publications are given in Annex 4.

In addition, for the benefit of readers, the proceedings of seminars, workshops, training courses which have been published are listed in Annex 5. This list also includes WMO co-sponsored seminars, workshops and training courses, the proceedings of which are not available and those for which proceedings have not been published. Other un-numbered publications are contained in Annex 6.

The tabulation reveals a number of interesting statistics about the activities of the Commission. Over 800 individuals have been involved in its activities at one time or another.

Much of the technical work of the_Corrunission is performed by working groups and rapporteurs. During the past nine sessions of the Commission, 74 topics were assigned to working groups , 93 to rapporteurs and two to special Task Forces. Membership in working groups was about 440 while the number of Rapporteurs totalled nearly 125. These produced some 63 WMO Technical Notes, 13 WCP Reports, 34 CAgM Reports, and 19 Miscellaneous (unnumbered) Reports. Of these reports, working groups and Task Forces produced material for 37, and Rapporteurs for 54. Thirty-three special reports were prepared under the auspices of CAgM alone or in co-operation with working groups of regional associations.

The Commission has taken an active role in assisting Developing Countries with the organization, development and strengthening of their Agrometeorological Services. Some 40 Consultants (s ee Annex 7) have undertaken short-and medium-term assignments and roving seminars on 114 occasions ~n some 68 countries (some countries have been visited more than once). Annex 8 contains chronology of some important events. Annex 9 contains a list of abbreviations.
