Last year, Cache Bash attendees heard a recap of

In 2008-2009, the GeoSeekers have teamed upwith the Ontario County EmergencyManagement Office and the Manchester FireDistrict to mark the location of over 300 fire

    ROT 13 Encryption

ROT13 is a very simple code that scramblestext so that it is not readable. It works byconverting a letter into the letter that is 13away from it in the alphabet, wrapping to thebeginning when going beyond the end ofthe alphabet. For example, Geocachewould be translated to Trbpnpur.

under and along the edges of the walkway. Itmight be hard to believe, but campers have pulled8 sunnies from here, and the population isgrowing in both size and number, every year!

This cache may be challenging for some, but if youplay your cards right, you should be able to pickthis one up without getting your feet wet.

    BuzzzzzzzN42 48.978 W077 22.499D: 1.5 T:2

This unique cache container is a custom creationfrom Captain Jon, and hes been eager to get itplaced somewhere fun. Where else could bemore fun than the 4-H Camp Cache Bash?!?Though it will involve a little bit of a hike, the cacheshould be relatively easy to spot. Retrieving andsigning the log, on the other hand, might be

considerably tougher. Dont let the hike sting you, this is a fun cache for the whole family!

    GeoMarathonN42 48.933 W077 22.483D: 2.5 T:4 (primarily for length)

This lengthy multi-cache will get you to stretchyour legs a bit. It will bring you through a varietyof terrain, and expose you to a variety of differentcache containers. There are more than five

waypoints, but less than ten, and the total hike isover one mile.

    Another LPC!N42 48.418 W077 22.408D: 1.5 T:2

Love em or hate em, the LPC is a very commoncache type. While searching for your first one, itmight stump you for a while, but once youvefound that first one, you will quickly spot thesecaches anywhere you go. Typically, these are

urban/suburban caches, but the 4-H Camp Cachehas put an interesting twist on this old container.

    Buffalo WingsN42 48.534 W077 22.473D: 2.5 T:2

A nice easy walk through camp will bring you tothe main fishing pond at camp. Many camperssample for aquatic insects, fish for sunfish, or hikearound the perimeter of this pond during thesummer months. Youre welcome to do the same

here. If you forgot to bring a pole, check withBoots... in the main lodge (Cockram Lodge) andwe can set you up with a fishing pole for the day.

Several years ago, this entire pond froze all the wayto the bottom, resulting in a total loss of all fish andother life that once resided here. In the years since, the population has been slowly rebuilding, andsunfish, bluegill and largemouth bass are nowcommonly seen here. Sitting on the dock, you are likely to see small fish swimming

The Case of the Cache CaperThe Case of the Cache CaperThe Case of the Cache CaperThe Case of the Cache Caper

Mendon Ponds haslong been ageocachinghotspot. Within a

short commute forhundreds, if notthousands ofcachers, its easy tosee why thisbeautiful naturalarea would be idyllic for great caches thatrequire a little more than a lampskirt cachen dash. The park currently has 43 cacheswithin its boundaries, but that numberrecently dropped by one. It was Tazs firstever cache hide, placed in August of 2006,and hidden not far from the Nature Centerat Pond road. The Case of the Cache Caperhas had the GeoRoc forums buzzing withspeculation of who could have possiblydone it! Today, with your help, cachers willunite to discover clues, hidden throughoutthe 4-H Camp Cache Bash, and put an endto the mystery of who helped themselvesto the historic hide.

As you signed in on the Official 4-H CampCache Bash 2009 Event Log, you may havenoticed that there was a letter on the lineof the book which you signed. This is yourfirst clue. Go back to the registration tableand retrieve one envelope from the jar withthe same letter as the line you signed in on.For example, if you were the third personto sign in, then there was a C on the line

when you logged in. Go back to the table, and pull one envelope from the C jar.How will you ever break the case with justone clue? You will need to talk to othercachers to learn what their clues mighthold. In addition, clues have been hiddenin each of the event hides today, so get outthere and start caching. Finally, you mayfind clues in random spots throughout the

day today (over the loudspeaker, somewhere in this guide, at the pot-lucklunch table, etc) so be diligent!

Once you think you have figured out whocarried away the clever cache, use the tearoff below to make your accusation, and

drop it in the Mystery box on theRegistration table. At 4:00pm, June 20,

2009, an accusationwill be drawn from thebox at random. Thefirst randomly drawnaccusation that isCORRECT will win ageocaching relatedprize! Good luck,

    detectives!
